Default fiskars paper trimmer troubles

I have been using a fiskars paper trimmer for a couple of years now. Lately it's been shredding the paper instead of the nice clean cut I've always gotten. I've replaced the blades a couple of times, and it just doesn't cut right. Is it possible that something has happened to that guide wire causing this problem? I'm wondering if it's time to break down and get a new one.

Contact Fiskars first. They've always gone way over and above with their customer service for me and for many others as well.

This caught my eye.... I recently started using a Fiskars trimmer that I had purchased awhile back...I had forgotten about it. Hmmm, imagine that?! LOL At first I was really pleased at the nice straight cuts, but after a few uses my blade seems to shred the paper. There are a lot of rough edges and even after trimming them off with scissors, the underside of the paper looks ugly...not so bad if you are only layering, but I don't want someone to open up my card and see the mess on the inside edges. I was disappointed and went back to using my Cutterpede.

That's what mine just started doing. Before this I've been very happy with it. I've used 2 different packs from 2 different stores and they both are not working properly. I asked the chat person if it could have something to do with the wire, but they told me it was just a guide. I don't know what a cutterpede is, but I will check it out. I don't want to go to the big tabletop cutter stampin up has, because it looks to bulky/heavy for me to move around like I need to in my workspace.

I've had my paper trimmer replaced by just sending them a picture of a broken wire. I just contacted them again because the surface of my paper cutter has bubbles all over it.

Fiskars is amazing with their customer service. They should replace your paper cutter, because the SureCut 12" Personal Paper Trimmer has a lifetime limited warranty (e.g. their product, not misuse.)

I've has issues with blades on mine a couple of times. I just called them!

More companies should have customer service like Fiskars!

That's good to know too! If my replacement blades don't work, I will pursue it further because that is the model I have.

Mine beloved Fiskars cutter is not cutting like it used to, either. I'm limping along with it until the new one from Stampin' Up! is available.

I hope you all get your issues resolved! I wonder if they've changed their blades. In the meantime, try putting a piece of scrap text-weight paper under your cardstock, and cut through both. I learned that tip on SCS a while back and found that it helps eliminate that fuzzy cut edge.

I can echo my great experience with Fiskars excellent warranty and customer service! My original cutter was bought at a discount outlet and I thought it was a factory second with no warranty on it. After about a year, the numbers and lines started wearing off the plastic guide. They replaced it with an even nicer model that was worth much more than my original. My new model has the wire guide and I love it. i don't know how I used to cut without that wire guide. I've never had any trouble with the blades. Maybe there was a faulty batch in circulation.

Contact customer service with any issues. They stand behind their product.

I can't remember the details on the new SU one but didn't Fiskars make the other one they used to carry?

It sounds like you need to replace the bar that runs the length of the cutter that you cut on. I always buy lots of these for trimmers I like. They get a deep groove in them from cutting and this is where the fraying of the paper comes in. This is just my guess from using Fiskars for years. The replacement bars if you can find them are usually between $8.00 and $12.00 each. Normally they have 4 sides so you can pop out your cutting bar and turn it over, flip it end to end and just use the heck out of it before replacing it...
blessings.

I think this might be the problem. I'm going to see what I can figure out. Thanks

I tried this, but it didn't help at all. I'm beginning to think it's more than just a bad blade, but I won't know until I get my new blades. In the meantime, I'm having serious stamping withdrawals!

I need to get out my aqua-painters, which I have never used, and give that a try.

I was wrong! It was the blades. Fiskars sent 3 new packs of blades, and they are visibly longer than the blades I had. Must of been a bad batch, but for now it works!

Good to know it was the blades! I should contact them about my cutter as well.

I think you should. They didn't hesitate at all to offer to send new blades, and they came very quickly. I'm extremely impressed by their customer service. And now...I'm going to go make a card!
