Default Etsy shop?

Curious. How many card making sisters here have an etsy shop?

I wouldn't touch even starting one. They have moved away from their original purpose which was handcrafted. I know I started a thread a few months ago with a newspaper article. Lots of peeps chimed in with other places that are sticking to promoting handcrafted goods. I will see if I can find and link.

I had an Etsy shop for a short while. But the craft items I sold were not cards. I sold decoupaged picture frames and small boxes and trays using vintage postage stamps. Never got much action but after a year I sold three items. I Just don't have the time to devote to reading all the articles on how to run your "shop", really work on promotion, and try to build a customer base in person to spread the word about the online shop.
Then they changed, they aren't as focused on handcrafted items so my shop sits there empty. I want to check out some of the other online places to sell but that will, have to wait until the new year.

i have a shop but i only sell mini Mixed Media canvases. I get a sale every now and then and that makes me happy and honored that someone wants to buy something i made. But it's not for paying bills. The money goes right back into creating things usually. https://www.etsy.com/shop/BluDragonArt

I have a shop and have sold a few jewelry and stamped items, but it is not lucrative for me. It's certainly not worth the time, effort, and money. I also echo what the above posters have said. The only folks who do really well know how to promote themselves, and I don't have the time to devote to learning how to do that well, nor do I have the money it takes to do it.

My friend sells cards (only cards) in her etsy shop. She's had it maybe 9 months. Her work is beautiful. But, she has only sold 1 card -- and that was to her son's girlfriend who kept telling her, "oh you should sell your cards..."

This made me laugh out loud! This is probably exactly what would happen to me if I opened an Etsy shop. I think about it now and then, but I'm far too lazy.

I have one too, but it hasn't done well lately... I think I've sold one card since September.

Like Marge's friend, DS has been telling me for years I should sell my cards, should look into etsy, etc. From way back when, it seemed like the range of quality and prices on etsy was pretty huge. But it would be nice to earn a bit to be able to keep buying more pretties to play with, so I'm toying around with different avenues, yes. (Probably the best bet is to clerk at a local craft shop, lol!)

Huge bummer to hear about the changes etsy's making, interesting to learn about some alternatives. (many thanks, Kristen, for that info and link to earlier thread ... most informative!)

JanTInk has a beautiful shop with some eye popping cards, and that's what got me wondering what all is involved and whether it's viable or not. BlueDragon and Dina, your stuff is AMAZING! Thanks muchly for sharing.

I had an Etsy shop for years, selling handmade vintage earrings. But there wasn't much exposure and sales were slim. So I gave it up.

And now after hearing all the negative things about their policy change I doubt I'll go back.

I'd much rather contact a brick & mortar store where I live about selling cards these days.

I've had a Etsy shop for several years now but I mostly sell hand soldered jewelry pendants (and have done pretty well with over 800 sales) I do list a few cards here and there and have sold a few but it's hard to get people to pay for the time and supplies that really goes into a card. I mostly list cards I made for other things like class samples or from my blogging job, since they are already made I might as well try to sell them and get a few bucks for them

Etsy is a bit overrun with "resellers" but it's still not Etsy's policy to allow shops like that and they will close down shops that violate policies, it's just there are too many for them to keep up with. Recently a change was made that someone can not have more then one shop selling the same items, this will hopefully cut back a bit on reselling.

I've tried many other on-line selling venues over the years and haven't found anything that brought in sales and traffic like Etsy does.

Hi, I have an Etsy shop for my hand stamped cards here: Catered Crop

I never expected to make money with it. I just do it to help my cards find a good home.
