I've been really good about writing down my "recipes" as I make the cards so I can post it to the gallery. The thing is, now I've got a bunch of little pieces of paper with all these recipes on them. I kind of feel that I shouldn't throw them out. But maybe that's just keeping paper I don't need. Goodness knows I have enough paper in my craft room ....
Before I had a digital camera and couldn't upload, I would take photos of my cards and print them out and write the recipes on the back and put them in little "brag book" albums. But that seems so 20th century now .... ;)
Do you keep your recipes in case you want to make the card again or something like it? Or do you just go back to your SCS gallery and see what you did the first time?
thanks!

I decorated a comp notebook and list the recipes in there. I've found that even when looking at the pics, I can't always tell which ink I used and certainly if I wanted to get the patterned paper again, I'd never know it offhand so I write all that down. Then again, I sell my cards and the best sellers are ones that I will re-make so I definitely need the recipes for them.
I post the recipes to my blog as I post my cards, that way I always know what went into making the card if I want to recreate a section of it. It's a good way for me, as well as my readers, to know what went into it.
I reckon the gallery and the details I write there is my record of what I used.
I've found, though, that I rarely remake a card. And when I do, I may not have the same things. I used to not use up paper just in case I wanted the same paper again, but then I reckoned what the heck, just use the stuff up.
If you've uploaded your details here, I certainly wouldn't bother keeping all the scraps of paper just on the off chance that you won't be able to access the data here.
Since I sell some of mine and have to send others to the companies I design for, I do need to remake some from time to time. Since I started, I've kept notebooks. I buy the smaller, 9.5 x 6 (Mead Five Star) notebooks. I jot down the sizes of layers, the ink colors, little notes if I did something out of the ordinary and the little scraps that you normally wouldn't keep, I attach them to the page so I have a handy reference of the colors/papers I used. I take a big rubber band and tie it to the spiral and pull it around the notebook to keep everything together. I put the start to end date on the cover w/ a sharpie.
Honestly, it only takes a few minutes to do and I've found it invaluable.
I don't write anything down, and have never even looked again at the recipes that I've typed on my gallery cards. I'm pretty confident that I can re-create one of my own cards just by looking at it.
I write down a card recipe when I'm going to mass-produce it, such as for Christmas. It's much easier making a whole bunch of cards in a step-by-step, organized order if it's all written out, especially if I'm being interrupted along the way.

Nope! I don't have anything downloaded to my gallery yet, but I have taken pictures and hope to soon. I always thought I'd just know what I used...maybe I won't!

Nope, I don't keep track of any recipes either. I figure I can remake my cards again if I have to and if there is anything special I need to figure out how to make I can always look it up here on splitcoast or by searching for it.

I used to keep instructions and copies of cards until I realized I don't make them again. Once in awhile someone has asked me to remake a card for them and I just have them send me the original and I remake it.
I don't keep anything either. I do have an idea notebook. If I do something that I think is really cool and I'm afraid I'll forget it I do jot it down, but I've never gone back to any of those. Mostly my idea book is from looking in galleries and saying, 'oh I like this idea" and writing that idea down. I also write down the challanges and submissions I'm thinking of doing.
Once I got an email that was something like, "On that octopus card you did in '06 what brand of print paper was that?" and I had to tell them I had no idea. Other than that it's never come up.
I will say though that a few times I've wanted to submit something and not been able to because I didn't know who made the supplies. But life went along merrily so I didn't change my system. (non-system)

i scan in all my cards and make a .doc w/the recipe...save to file...then i can print it out if someone wants a copy or i can just find it quick if i need to
