I have a pile of brads but never think about using them. If I did I would have to cover the 'legs' back or do it on a layer so the back didn't show.

Eyelets just split on the back and look a mess and you can't cover the back of that. Am I doing something wrong?

Default Brads and eyelets

Coincidentally, I unearthed some eyelets yesterday to use on a page. You can see it here if you'd like to.

Before yesterday I haven't used them, or brads, in ages.

Default brads or eyelets

I use brads a lot more than eyelets in fact just pulled out my eyelets this week and I bet it's been a couple of years since I used them. other embellishment I use all the time are self sticking crystals.

I love eyelets. I just bought a bunch and they are in various shades of purple. They always make a card pop for me!

I have both, use both. Brads more often but eyelets sometimes. I really don't think there is a rule about using them. I bet they went out of style when people realized how much easier brads are. That said, use them if you like and get rid if you don't. But remember, about the time you get rid of them they will come back into style or you will wish you had them for something. That's always what happens to me! Like I just saw the cutest corset card on pinterest using eyelets.

I think they fell out of fashion because the manufacturers realized they have a very slim profit margin. You buy a box of white brads or eyelets for $4.99 that you can color yourself, and that box will last all year. Compare that to the sticky back jewel bling, especially the kind that's so hard to get off the plastic that you wind up throwing it away. I think the magazines set the styles based on what advertising the manufacturers want to promote, so that's why some of the stuff we love suddenly disappears!

I even still sometimes use my old eyelet setter even though I have the Crop-a-Dile!
For those not so useful brad colors, you can change the colors to more useful ones by coloring with Copic or Spectrum Noir pens, Sharpie markers or by dipping them in embossing powder after heating the brad.

I love using brads but wondered why they disappeared from Joann's. I am still in search of mini black brads and mini black half pearls.
As for their profit margins, they pay pennies for the stuff. I have taken to dipping brads in versamark & embossing them. I wish I had a stash of white in different sizes to do this. I never got into eyelets, but I did buy a few of the Quicklets which you can set with a pen.

I love both, and use both. I admit I don't use the eyelets as much, but they are perfect for the right card or scrapbook page. Now that I have a grandson, I expect I'll use eyelets more, especially in his scrapbook.

What a great idea to have a Challenge Drawer. I am going to use a "tub" to put stuff in and challenge myself to use those neglected items. Thanks for the idea!

If you're talking adhesive half-pearls (vs. with some sort of attachment), you can color them with a Sharpie and get great results.

I do love those mini black brads. They always were hard to come by.

Wondering if this is something that I would regret selling in the future. ***little side note, I am INFAMOUS for buying stuff, lots of stuff and then selling it all, then sometimes regretting it somewhere down the road***

Do you still use these things on your cards or layouts? Should I start throwing some into the mix?

Default brads and eyelets

I still use both, but not as much as I used too. I especially use the eyelets when I make bookmarks. I put an eyelet in the top then add a piece of string.

You're not doing anything wrong, just need to make some adjustments. To not have the legs show you can put the brads on a card front layer and then attach that to your base with adhesive; the legs will then be sandwiched between and will not show. I've put them as the center of my flowers then attach the flower to the front; again they won't show this way. I haven't done it but know others cut the legs off and use adhesive to attach them for one layer cards.

I'm sure there are other ways to use them too.

As for the eyelets, I use a cropadile and it tends to make them look nicer than the hammer method for me. Again, if you do t want them showing on the back, layer them.

I have a ton of brads but I don't like the bump made by the legs either so I started using wire snips to cut off the legs and sticking a glue dot in the middle and adding it to my card just like any other stick-on embellishment. Great way to use up all those brads we have laying around.

i'm with Arlene. l love them both, but I have never successfully been able to adhere the eyelets. They both have a place in crafts. I have found times I wish I could get an eyelet on the card so that it looked nice and just gave up. Have tried the cropodile. Gina K has eyelets and a really uncomplicated way to put them on, but I haven't tried them. I also have tons of both in lots of colors, OCD perhaps!

I love both. Usually put them on layers so they don't show on the back of a card. If this is not possible, I cover the back side of the card front with a layer, or an appropriate embellishment. I do use brads more, but think any hole made to thread ribbon or cord through looks unfinished without an eyelet. I did not get a Crop-a-dile for the very reason that the neck is not long enough and just held on to my Click It until the Big Bite came out with the deep neck. Sets eyelets perfectly even though it is not ergonomically designed for easy use. I have many small jars of both that I love to play with for pragmatic purposes as well as decorative.

I use eyelets for the ribbon pull on a slider card like this.

Or on altered composition books to make a closure, eyelet on the back cover and loop a colored hair elastic thru it, then a brad on the front cover to loop the elastic around. I'd post a pic but I gave them all away.

This week's challenge over at CCEE Stampers is to use eyelets .
Here's my card: CCEE1310 Eyes on Christmas by Cook22 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
I managed to find 9 matching brass eyelets and dropped one of them. So when I dropped a second one, I had to search the floor till I found it. Time to get some more, I think!!!

I have eyelets and the hammer and the cropodile. I don't use eyelets much and like one poster back the papers that brads go through to conceal the tabs. I loved the penguin spinner card and the challenge drawer idea. I have a lot of things I'm not using and need to get rid of or create!

I use both but admittedly, more frequently it's brads. I have a lot more eyelets though. Maybe I need to do one of the above mentioned challenges.

I prefer buttons. I REALLY prefer self-adhesive embellishments like rhinestones and pearls...and flat embellishments.

I don't use mine a lot but for the room they take up they aren't going anywhere. I use eyelets for the tops of bookmarks and tags and brads for the center of flowers and to attach so embellies and for guy cards when other embellies aren't appropriate.
