I have a dilemma and would like an opinion. I am not sure this is where I should post this but didn't know where else to do so. I was contacted through a PM from a person asking if I would share a pattern for a box I had posted in my gallery about a year and a half ago. I have/had no problem sharing this pattern, and will/would do so again if asked. However, I did work many hours measuring, drawing and perfecting the pattern as I took the pattern from a box I was given as a gift. The original box was much too large for making or being a doable project for a workshop. So I halved all the measurements, drew up a template, cut and pasted LOL, to make it work as it should. Once again, I reiterate, I have no problem sharing this with anyone. I feel once it is posted it is fair game to case. But, my dilemma is this--the person who requested the pattern (from me) now has it posted on her blog as "look what I just created" and she goes on, if you would like the pattern to make yours e-mail me and I will send it to you. Again I have no problem with sharing the pattern, what I perceive as wrong here is that NOWHERE does she give me credit for creating this pattern, instead she has presented it on her blog as "look what I created". Am I wrong in feeling that she is being quite rude by not mentioning that someone else created the pattern/template and not her. Would it not be common courtesy to say so-and-so shared this pattern with me and I created this box and I will share the pattern with you? Am I just being knit-picky. Sorry for the long vent, but just needed to share.
No, you are not being 'knit-picky'. I too would be very upset if my template wasn't credited to me.
If you have the 'persons' PM, I would E that 'person' and ask the template and box be credited to you.
If that doesn't happen.....publicize that persons name and blog!!!!
My vent is long too. Very annoying this situation.
Also, my opinion.
I still find it unbelievable that someone would take credit for the hard work and creativity of another! I don't blame you at all for being upset...I think most people would be.

I do not think you are being nit-picky. I would expect a little common courtesy too.
I hope it was not an oversight on her part, but it is possible that it might have slipped her mind when writing her post. I realize that would be difficult to miss in this situation, but still, it is a possibility. Maybe give her the benefit of the doubt and send a nice flattered email to her (WOW! You made something with the pattern I gave you, it's adorable!) and then asking her where did she mention that the pattern was received from someone else because you didn't see it.
Just my initial thoughts on it. I sure hope she comes back and mentions you.

I totally agree with MissyTerry

It sure as heck would bother me too! The polite thing to do is mention that she got it from you and give the credit to you! Sometimes people post a card similar to someone else's and post that they can't remember where they got it, but if you have seen who it belongs to, to let them know! What she did is pretty rude! Sorry you had such a bad experience!
I agree this shouldn't be done. I say you should contact the person and remind them that you shared the template for this design with her and would like credit for creating the template on her blog.
I will say that I am hoping this was done by "innocent" mistake and she was just confused about the "original creator". This may be wishful thinking but I do hope it was such.
That stinks. Why don't you post the pattern in our DOWNLOADS TEMPLATES forum and then it will be credited to you and appreciated by the rest of us.
Thank you all who understand my frustration. I really do not give a wit about the pattern, it is just the way it was handled. Craftdoc, I would post the pattern (actually it is in my gallery) but I do not have a scanner worthy of posting and my photo of the pattern is really lousy LOL. It is actually an easy box to make, no directions, just a lot of cutting and folding. (and careful measuring)
Thanks again, I did not intend to turn this into a vent it just happened LOL
I've been very worried about this issue myself... I just recently started my own blog... and have had VERY few "shelly" creations... I usually copy someone else... so the first few times I've posted, I put up my own creations..which are in no way "creative"... anyway, I say this because I almost did the same thing that the OP's bad blogger did when I posted this morning. I saw a card on Angie's blog (www.chicnscratch.typepad.com) and created a similar card.. was just about to hit post when I realized that her link wasn't working... but that was my original title with "Look what I created".....so glad hubby helped me get the link to work... This is also something I worry about when I case a project, not giving the proper credit... should I just reference SCS if I don't know the original creator?
If someone let's me know it was their idea, I have no problems giving them credit... but I see so many ideas on SCS its hard to keep track.. anyone else suffer from this?
You should leave a comment on the blog that says something like "I'm really glad you liked MY box pattern and made it work for you" with a link to your SCS gallery. Is that too passive-aggressive?
Glad you vented and I hope you share a link to your project!
I wld be upset too and I was when it happened to me. I shared my patterns here and found them posted on a blog where they were "presented" as the blogger's creation and I can see my handwriting on the pattern! I was more than happy to share and glad I actually had something original to share (I love that everyone shares so much here), but I didn't like the fact I wasn't given proper credit. I didn't know how to say anything nice about it so I didn't say anything.
Just to second everyone else, I'd be mighty upset! BTW, I checked out the box in your gallery and it is gorgeous!

I agree that you should have been credited. Hopefully, it was an oversight!
Shelly, if you don't remember who made the original project, simply say something like "I can't recall where I saw the original project that this card is based on. If it is yours or you know who created it, please contact me so I can give credit."

and the pattern itself is , unique box by Sharmill at Splitcoaststampers
and I have chosen not to post a comment to her as I really do not care that she shares the pattern, just that she is taking credit for the whole thing.
Unfortunately, I know it is not an oversight and she 'forgot' who she got the pattern from because I actually 'snail' mailed it to her per her request and I had my name/address etc right on the pattern/
My consolation to the whole thing is 'what goes around, comes around' and someday it will happen to her.
Thanks for sharing your comments about this to me.

I agree with the others. I would be upset. I guess I would hope it was an oversight. It seems from what you have written it was not. Maybe the caser will read this forum and edit her blog.

That's just terrible. As someone else suggested, whip yourself up a quick watermark and stick it on EVERYTHING. That's the sad part about the internet, stealing your hard work is just one click away. And that box is amazing, you should get the recognition for your hard work!
I agree this really stinks! Especially since "you" took the time to create the measurements for the pattern! I do agree that what goes around comes around, so I probably wouldn't say anything either, but I sure would not share another thing with this person!

I would leave a comment on the post saying "I am so glad you liked my box pattern and happy to see it arriced safely! How flattering that you would use it to create such a great project. I hope everyone that receives my pattern enjoys it as much as I did creating it"
Ouch! Congratulations on actually creating something though!
I'd be steamed if I actually came up with something, shared it and was not credited. That stinks! Definitely let her know how you feel and give her the chance to make it right.

Nope, I think it was just passive-aggressive enough, lol! Sharon, I bought a package of these boxes a couple of years ago at a dollar store specifically with the idea of making a template for them. Well, I soon gave up, lol! Kudos to you for sticking with it; I know it wasn't easy!
Usually, I'm a believer in "there are no new ideas, etc.," but in this case, she clearly ASKED you for the pattern. You PHYSICALLY MAILED it to her. You know there's no doubt. I do think a comment to her is in order. I know you're uncomfortable with that, but clearly she thinks nothing of what she's done. She needs to be set straight. If you want to privately email her instead of on her blog, fine. That's certainly taking the high road.
'k...I'm gonna save your picture of the template and do my best to figure it out to get a full-sized template! It's such a cool box!
That is just sooo wrong, credit where credit is due.. sorry this has happened to you, I love the templates that you all share with us here, and I would hate for this sort of thing to jeopardize you wanting to share, I feel if you take anything from anywhere, you should give credit. Hopefully this person will see this and do the right thing, have you tried PMing her or emailing her with your frustrations?

I 100% agree that credit on her blog is due to you. I would be really upset if I went to all that trouble to make a template, offer it to others, and then absolutely no credit. I would send her a PM.
I totally agree that she should have given you credit. If I can't remember where I CASED from, I don't post mine. If I wanted to anyway, I would say "thanks to the person who created this box (or whatever)... please pm me so I can give you credit! And I think she must have remembered, if she asked you for directions, etc. I am so sorry this happened to you and no, you are not being nit-picky!

It boils down to a thread a while back...good manners! Thanks for being such a giving person to post it in the first place and then share even via snail mail. Shouting you praises from here!!
i've created multiple templates and lists that i post here and elsewhere. typically, my templates are word or excel files, and i'll always include a PDF for those that don't have the MS suite. the files aren't generally protected. so, i expect people to use them or i wouldn't post them.
i've found creations on blogs that appear to have used my templates, without any credit. in the past, i've sent a kind note to the blog owner. most of the time i'm told they didn't know where the original template came from [they're shared by others] and they're quite happy to include a credit, or link to my original file. once, quite a long time ago, the blogger was rude about it, but included a reference to the creator of the template [me].
i'd say, send a note to the blogger and let her know you're disappointed that she hasn't given you credit and would prefer that she just link directly to your file on SCS. maybe she just didn't even think about it in her haste to get her project posted. i would like to think that *generally* stampers are kind & sharing people. give her an opportunity to make it right. she'd probably be embarrassed to know there's a whole thread 'talking' about her.
Yes I would be upset since you specifically sent her the template - it wasn't just one she picked up here.
Secondly, if you would just like to PM everyone that has replied here with the blog link and we can sort it by commenting that we have seen it before as per your links - I think it could sort out your problem ;)
I would leave a comment on the post saying "I am so glad you liked my box pattern and happy to see it arriced safely! How flattering that you would use it to create such a great project. I hope everyone that receives my pattern enjoys it as much as I did creating it"
You have a right to feel however you want and do whatever you want about it.
As for me, I feel like when you put something out there, yes, it is most likely going to be copied and there's probably just as many people who won't give u credit as who would. Though its not right, I don't think its anything to lose sleep over. My feelings are if that person is just really not that creative then i feel bad for them. So I guess my advice would be just learn from the experience and move on, like maybe next time when you send someone a pattern state that you would prefer if they credit you with the creation.
How rude of her - I'm not surprised you were annoyed. I used to have a manager in work who would take credit for work I had done (if I wasn't around to hear her!) and it just used to drive me up the wall!!! Thankfully she no longer works there!
...the person who requested the pattern (from me) now has it posted on her blog as "look what I just created" and she goes on, if you would like the pattern to make yours e-mail me and I will send it to you.
is she really claiming to have created the pattern, or just what she created WITH the pattern?
