I want to make box of paper that is precut for making cards. What are the common sizes of papers that you cut? I want to be able to just pull papers and start putting things together. I have mostly SU stamps.
Well, because of so many designs, and card sketches, the little pieces can be many sizes! Do you like to layer complimenting cardstocks? Do most of your stamps cover a certain amount of space? Do you have several that cover two inch squares or circles? Do many cover about three inches and so on. Many are small! Stamps come in so many sizes too! I don't know if more SU stamps range in 1 and a half to two inch range or more. What shapes do you like the most? Squares, rectangles, circles, ovals? Do you die-cut to layer desired colors for space arrangement? I am no expert but I certainly would explore the card sketch gallery!! That's where I have learned a lot! You can then decide what you like the most and try to cut for convenience.
I however really don't make my cards that way. I go with inspiration first then decide what stamps to use then what card stock shapes. I often will cut a shape to fit the image and not even measure! Sometimes I like my borders to be really tight, less than one eigth inch--I do best to cut these after I glue them to the cardstock of my choice!
I bet you get lots of ideas and suggestions with this question!
Have fun!
I tried making precut pieces and it just didn't work for me. I vary too much from image to image. I know there are people that cut their 12x12 down to 6x6, 4x4, etc, but for me I waste too much paper.
I'd rather just cut as I need or use up my scraps. Sorry, not much help...
I really don't pre-cut my pieces. I kinda cut as I go along.
Here's a good rule of thumb I tell my customers, measure the wood block (i.e. I use Stampin' Up!) to figure out the size of the focal image and work from there.
There are days that I am inspired by the scraps of patterned paper I have on my stamping desk and that's how I start my design. Not much cleaning gets done when I go to the Stampin' Studio with this frame of mind!!!

That's what I do. Works great and if it is too big for your liking then you can trim it down.
I don't intentionally pre-cut anything but bases either.
I just keep a bin at my workspace and when I cut into a new sheet, the rest goes in the bin...after a while I have tons of *precut* scraps in there to use.

I like to cut *inside* pages ahead of time. I make them 5.25 x 4. On every card I make I put an inside page inside the card to write on. It gives the card weight and it just looks *finished* to me. I usually sponge the edges of the inside card and stamp a little image on the lower left corner that matches the front of the card. I always have white and vanilla inside pages pre-cut. These inside pages can also be used for the first layer on the front of the card too since they are the same size.
If you are talking about layers, there is a chart from one of the SCS that she prepared with differernt card sizes and the measurements she uses for layers. I don't remember which stamper showed this. I have a copy in My Pictures folder, but can't figure out how to link it here. I suggest doing a search.
I cut cards and layers in these sizes ahead of time too.
5 1/2 x 4 1/4 (Full card size)
1. 5 1/4 x 4
2. 5 x 3 3/4
3. 4 3/4 x 3 1/2
4. 4 1/4 x 3 1/4
This is getting pretty far down into the layers, but I usually always cut layers through numbr 3. Sometimes I want to skip a size so there is more space in between the layers. But these sizes work perfect for me.
If I want to do a long layer(s) on the side of the card I do:
5 1/2 x 2 1/4
5 1/4 x 2
and so on cutting by 1/4 inch. I hope this is what you wre asking.

Thank you so much! Sammie that is exactly what i was looking for. Just a general idea so I can throw together a card if needed . Now to gather my scraps and start cutting!

Wilma, I love this idea! I have been a total dunce about the insides of my cards. I'm going to start doing this on all the cards I make - and then I don't have to worry about how dark the cardstock is. If I wanted to make a card that - for example - the whole office would be signing, I would usually just default to using a white cardstock. Now, I'll start inserting a nicely finished piece ( or 2) of white/light cs to write on. Thanks for the idea!

I do a similar thing on the insides and never really thought of cutting them ahead of time but that's a great idea! I usually put a white or vanilla piece in that's a little smaller than the card, and stamp a sentiment or image in the corner.
I was thinking of precutting Nestabilities shapes in white and vanilla. Simply a matter of devising a good way to "file" and organize them. I thought a little coupon organizer would work but I'm not sure they're big enough for the largest sizes.
Sometimes I go through my scraps drawer and find anything big enough to make a card base out of and get them all ready to go. I would never try to precut for images ~ too much variation.
I scrapbook 8.5x11, but most of my cardstock from earlier days (Bazzill and DCWV) are 12x12. When I cut them down to 8.5x11, I ended up with all of these thin strips. I went through all of my cardstock scraps and took out ALL of the thin strips -- anything 1/2 inch to 1 inch tall and at least 5.5 inches wide. I cut them all down to a width of 5.5 inches.
I love having a little strip of different colored cardstock going horizontally on my card, and this makes it easy to find one. I put them all in a little Sterilite drawer. It also helped my cardstock scrap file, because those strips are hard to find.
I also took all of the sheets in my scrap folder that were at least 5.5 x 8.5 and cut them to that size and scored. I ended up with several pre-scored cards this way.
My scraps were getting out of control, eventhough I use them almost everytime I make a card or scrapbook.

What a super idea using the nesties. The Top Note would also be nice for the A2 card.
