I am planning on teaching a one hour after school class. (one day a week for five weeks) to 10 2nd-4th grade girls. I want to do one craft project a week (or maybe one that will take 2 weeks).
Ideas I have so far are a post-it note holder and bead pen, cards, and an altered picture frame.
My daughter really loves to alter those mailboxes from the target $1 spot. You could also alter a mini composition notebook, I found mine at the dollar tree (4 for $1). How about those Jumbo paper clip bookmarks?
I like the paperclip idea too. How about the albums made out of old CD's. They could make one or two, connect together intead of making an entire album. Like to hang on their wall. Those are fun and I've made them for the young girls in our family and they liked them a lot. If you have a crop a dile, it punches through the CD nicely. Otherwise you have to drill them - I think a regular punch wouldn't work. Paperbag album is fun too. I have one in my gallery (which is tiny!) that uses a CD, paperbag and coasters - called a hodgepodge album. That was easy and fun to do.
Those are great ideas! Theresa do you have a pic. of the ones you made with your kids?
unfortunately I don't! We kept them quite simple! We punched out various shapes (I used various circle sizes and the base of all of them was the SU Scallop punch) in a WIDE variety of paper - both CS (for the scallop base) and DP for the circles. I also had a small flower punch that was punched in various DP & CS that they used as embellishments.
You will need either thin chipboard or cereal box ( I used the box!) that we punched out 1 1/2 inch circles (anything 1 1/4 & up would work) that we hot glued to the paper clip to keep the whole thing stable. (I am sure you could use other adhesive but hot glue was quick, dries FAST and it sticks!)
Ok, I found a photo of one I made myself but similar to what the kids made! I actually made this one into a magnet and use it to hold a photo on the fridge. It was simple. I made it the same except that on the back side I added the CS scallop and then added a magnet. I made sure that my front was the part with the short loop. My mom really like the magnet ones so I ended up making a bunch for her to use!
Location: I had no idea it could snow this much in the desert!

I like this idea! Have to try this with my little ones :p
My son loves Origami and we add them to cards and presents. There are great books at the library and we have found a lot of free instructions online too, and many sites include fun history about Origami as well.

i dont have many ideas but i know one that i plan to do with my group (which i just got organized today im SOOO excited!). It would be for mothers day. A box vase (made out of paper) and have them decorate it and then we will make paper flowers on sticks and i would use buttons for the centers and just make a pretty flower arrangement and a small notecard or something...... i've been rackign my brain as well so i would love to see some ideas as well!
I have a friend who works with 9 -12 year old girls and she made the candy bar sleeves with them - the ones where you pull the ribbon from the top and out comes the hershey bar. This was a big hit.
I know there was a post a week or so about pebble magnets and the pebbles were available at the Dollar Tree... could be another good gift for Mother's day/Easter and it looked fairly straightforward to do.
I've made just simple cards with kids. You can get some card stock and some inexpensive embellishments to decorate them with. They would even like using some stamp sets. Mother's Day will be here before you know it. You could get a jump on making those cards.
