I have been invited to a friend's house and she wants everyone to bring a project to work on while there. Not something to share or demo but to work on. Most of her friends do knitting and needlepoint, both easy to travel with but I am a stamper. I spent all last night looking at my craft room trying to think of something I could work on and keep coming up blank. When I work, its usually an organic process and I ended up going from product to product till I am happy.
Does anyone have any ideas of something that travels well without carting my entire inventory with me?
I have a house we go to in the mountains almost every weekend. When I plan on what to take it usually works best to grab some of my favorite cards I have already made and make a few extra to increase my stash. That way you can slowly go over each card and make sure you have all the items necessary. Just don't forget things like glue, dimensionals, stamp cleaner, things that don't show on the card but are a necessity. You could even precut or prestamp some of the items ahead of time. I guess it would be kind of like planning for a workshop. Hope that helps.
Stamp a bunch of images to color and something to color them with (pencils, Copics, water colors, etc.)
I do the same thing. Depending on how long the trip is, I find that coloring a bunch of images is a great project. Also, depending on how detailed the image is, coloring can be a long process, but therapeutic. If you get tired of coloring, you can always paperpiece the images...just remember to take your detail scissors. ;)
Coloring is the way to go. This way you don't have to bring along all the other supplies.

You might decide on a few card designs...in other words, do your "product to product" thing and then collect everything to make each one, but don't put them together. Sketch out your plan if you need to. The old SU wood stamp boxes are great to put everything in for each project.
Just wanted to point out those other crafts can be done while sitting anywhere. You may want to plan for sitting on the sofa without a table. So you need a worksurface. I would go with a clipboard if I were coloring.
Also if you color with pencils and they are in the tins you may wish to put elastic around the trays so they won't spill out of the trays as easily if bumped.
I have stamped out a bunch of images to color as well as some backgrounds to play with all using Distress Markers and colored pencils. Hopefully that'll keep me busy.
You might want to give Zentangle a try. It is an easy transport needing just pens and paper and some patterns to try out. I find it very relaxing at swim meets. Here's a great site for ideas.

Reason: spelling
I do this every week. Most of the time I DO take three whole bags with me, but on occasion, I have fitted everything into just one bag. That's when I'm just on a colouring rampage (like others have suggested - just stamp stuff, and bring markers). Other times I bring a "kit" - cardstock, black inkpad, markers, etc. and make a bunch of cards there that are similar (similar brads, flowers, colours, backgrounds) but different (to keep it interesting).
I think Card Kits are the way to go..Stamp some images and bring your markers pencils etc
have your mats and card bases cut for how ever many cards you plan to make. Bring your basic tool kit with adhesives and at the end of the day you'll have a few cards made.
That being said...I usually spend most of my time talking and eating LOL

I find myself taking way to much stuff. I have decided to make card kits of what I want to do in advance and just take the supplies for those projects. That means stamping and cutting at home. I will have to take my coloring tools, tape, inks and hopefully rather than two carts and two or three large utility bags can get it to one cart. Most of us like the idea of spontaneous making and so planning takes a little work.

This is what I do too! We have a place on the mountain that we go every weekend during the summer. During the week I stamp tons of images and just throw them in a folder and throw my copics and colored pencils in a tote and off I go!
