I finally got a chance to re-do my card, but I'm waiting for my upload to be approved I'll post the link as soon as I can - I love the way it turned out!!!
Is the brown the layer under the images/greeting? its reading dark green on my monitor.
I think if you cut that down to just larger than the three images, separating the greeting from the images and do that again and just have a border around the greeting and maybe ad a white layer to echo the background of your colored images.
I don't mind the purple/brown/ and orange color combo but often you need to repeat a background color in an image etc to get a "different" color combo to work more harmoniously.
The base is brown.
Then there is purple cuttlebugged layer, then the image stamped on Very Vanilla and matted with the dark green.

Thanks! at least I know not to readjust my monitor!
I think if the color combo isn't speaking to you then take it apart. However I wonder what some green and brown ink (that closely matches your cardstock choices) on the raise embossing would do to pull it all together?

I haven't read completely through this thread but I wanted to comment here and there where I had a suggestion. So, I hope this hasn't been mentioned.
First, LOVE the card. The one thing I think could give it some more "omph" is an embossed background. Do you have any embossing folders? Try that and I bet the card will be even better!

Now I am making this card for a customer- (my first time that I'm filling an order, so to speak). Anyway, after coming up with several cards this is the one that she's setteled on and I'm still not happy with it. I'm planning on sending her this one and another one as a sample before I make the rest of them. This is for her wedding thank you cards and she wanted me to use these colors, this emobssing folder, and she really likes the stamping.
The only thing that I'm not too sure about it the layout. She likes the scalloped circle, but I guess it's the ribbon that's bothering me. I have to use the white ribbon because I don't have any yellow that matches nicely enough and I think a black ribbon wouldn't work. So the white ribbon needs to be tied over top of my so saffron card stock.
It might be hard to seen in my picture, but the image is stamped twice, once in so saffron and once in black.
So, what do you all think about the layout and how could it be changed?
Again, I haven't read completely through the thread so I apologize if this is a duplicate to someone else's suggestion.
I think the card is lovely. I would only change the height of the ribbon and I would bring it up so that it borders the So Saffron and the black. Then you would need to move the knot/bow to either side - which would work.

I personally love this card - the colors are so adorable!!! The only suggestion that I have is pretty much what everyone else said: either change the ribbon or no ribbon at all. Other than that, I think it's a darling card!!!

I think this card just needs something on the sides...whether you bring ribbon bowed to one side.....pop a sentiment peeking out from under the layers already there.....something like that...doesn't need much....just a tweaking.
Cheers,
Michelle

The card is lovely with the pink gingham papers and brads, I am thinking maybe Pink brads instead of the bold dark ones and a bit of ribbon in gingham? A skinny-ish sentiment or on a punched shape (like mentioned above) would be the cherry on the top! It IS a great card though...
OK, now off to find a card (have several) to post for some help!
Thanks SO much for this thread!!!!!
OK, here is a stamp I would love to use again... sorry about the lighting! LOL
Hi Mary....I see a bigger die cut outline under the layered main image. I wonder if sponging the outside of this die cut outline would make the whole thing pop?
Thank you everyone for your help. I thought I would share my made over card with you. I made the black strip a little bit wider and I used my scallop punch along the bottom of it. Then I moved the black strip down a bit and my ribbon up so that it was tied over top of the black card stock. I also used a smaller ribbon.
I'm much happier with my card now, thanks again for helping me
Wow! That made such a wonderful difference! It looks terrific!

Thank you Anita and Julie. It's amazing that just a little bit of tweaking can make all the difference. I sent both of my cards to the lady that I'm making them for and I'll let her decide which one she likes best. I thought I should send her a sample before I commit to making the rest of them for her.

Really liked the first one till I saw your remake!
This is spot on; moving the ribbon onto the wider black strip has totally pulled all the elements together.
Brilliant .... TFS

Thanks! I really like the way it turned out. I was really surprised at how much a little change can make all the difference. This is a great thread!

Patty,
When she makes her decision, please post and let us know which card she chose. Inquiring minds want to know . . . .
Well, I thought it might be a good time to start a constructive criticism thread!!! I know that sometimes I, personally, have cards that I look at and think, "Hmm - something's missing" but I can never quite figure out what that 'something' might happen to be!!! (And I don't think I'm the only one that this happens to ) So here is your chance to post a link to one of your cards that needs 'help' and we'll give it some feedback!!
There aren't really any 'rules', but please please PLEASE keep in mind that this is constructive criticism (keyword: constructive!!) Be positive in your replies, and try to give a suggestion as to how the card could be improved (e.g. 'this card could use some brads in the lower corner')
I guess I'll start with a card that I have never liked I just don't know what's wrong with it!! It is probably the ugliest card in my gallery (correction: it IS the ugliest card in my gallery!!) but I don't know how to improve it!!! Thoughts?? Gingham Wagon
Anyway have fun, and enjoy the constructive criticism fellow SCS'ers have to offer on your magnificent creations!!!

Love all the ideas, I don't think this one was suggested and it was the first thing I thought of to add to it. How about some faux stitching around the edge of the die cut? I think that would set it off too,. HTH!

I just heard back from her and she decided to go with the first card that I made (in post #57). I was surprised because I liked my new remade card so much better.

I must say that both your cards were truly stunning!!! You did a fantastic job!!! Actually, I liked your first card better, although your remake was gorgeous, too Glad your customer liked the cards!!

Well, they were both gorgeous cards, although the remake was also my favorite. I guess it's a good thing we all have differents tastes, otherwise this world would be very boring.

I agree that both cards were lovely - but I really did like the second one best. But art is subjective.
Blessings,
Maybe the photo doesn't do it justice. For me the problem is that the focal point should be the unicorn and the little fairy in the bottom right corner. Instead it is the flowers that are highlighted. I would like to see a silver or gold pen used on the unicorn's mane and maybe a bit of gray shading in the rest of him. On the fairy, maybe you could stamp her again on a different piece of paper, cut her out and pop her up down in that corner. Simple is good, but I think the problem isn't with simple - its with the fact that the eye is drawn to the sparkles, not to the images. I do like the placement of the two thought. Especially the little fairly who seems to be peering out from under the flowers.
Blessings,
Ok ladies, I need your help I was trying to make a CAS card (NOT my strong point!!!) and all I could come up with was this awful card!!! (WARNING: you might ban me from the SCS community if you look at this horrible creation!!) (Ok - maybe I'm too hard on myself ) It just looks really bland and ugly to me. I was thinking of maybe using my CB to add something to that white space but...I don't know. Thoughts??

Oh.....LOL....you crack me up!!! We would never ban you....LOL
Anyway, I'm a super CAS fan so this is right up my alley
I sort of think that there are too many colors going on here. Personally the green on your card doesn't seem to be working for me. What if you replace the green with turquoise? Or maybe even use a different color green, (I don't know) that green just doesn't seem right to me. But I think embossing the white layer would be great if you feel there is too much white showing.
I'd love to see your card if you decide to change it around. I really like your layout; I just might give it a try (if you don't mind).
I would use the same color of cardstock that you used for your base card and make your scallop circle the same color and than use the same color ribbon too. I agree with Patty, the green doesn't seem to "go" with it. Oh, and your card is not awful at all.
Hmmm...to me, it just doesn't seem like your unicorn really goes with the card. I LOVE the embossing around the lower right-hand corner, but then the image doesn't seem to fit. Do you have another stamp that might fit better? I do like that unicorn - maybe you could put it on another card???? I don't know...just my opinion

Simple can be beautiful. Personally I'm a big fan of B&W cards. This card does need something - but I'd never call if awful. I do think there is too much white area. Perhaps embossing would help. Someone else mentioned that they did not care for the green. I think that color green only works with pink if it is a bold pink. The green is bright and the pastel pink doesn't seem to go with it. If you decide to keep the green, you might want to try replacing the pastel pink with a brighter pink. I would love to see what you come up with.
Blessings,
I really like it...except LOL You are right something is missing, too much white?? Maybe sponge around the white part that is showing?? Not really sure, but otherwise I like it
I agree. Some sponging would do the trick I think.

I liked the layout on your card and I made a card using it, but I haven't had a chance to upload it yet. I'm not sure if I like the way mine turned out either (which is why it isn't in my gallery yet)- although I mailed to today.
Just thought I'd bump this thread in case someone else wanted to share their cards with us
Thanks for the bump! I'm wondering about this one. I thought it was an adorable card when I made it, but I'm a little discouraged to see that it has 0 comments and few views. Is it the color scheme? I already gave it away and I'm wondering what the recipient thought! I would appreciate any constructive criticism!
I left some *love* on your card - I think it's darling!!! The buttons, ribbon, and plaid paper are all so cute together!!! The only comment that I could think of was that the blue of her dress doesn't really seem to match the rest of the card. To me, it just seemed to vibrant on an otherwise subtle card. But that's just being nit-picky - other than that I think it's an adorable card!!!

I really like the coloring of the HM stamp - it is extremely well done!!! To me, the background floral paper just didn't seem to work with the image. Maybe try using a brighter, more cheerful paper?? Also, I might try layering the image on a coordinating cardstock, and put some embellies in the corners. That's my opinion, though - all in all, I think you have a great card!!! HM stamps are too cute!!!

Thanks - I appreciate your input! For some reason in the pic. her dress looked more blue, but then again I really wanted to use my Copics and I don't have many colors - maybe I should have used colored pencils instead.
