Has anyone noticed that the clear umounted stamps turn a yellow color? I have only had these a few months and they are turning a dingy yellow. Guess I need to ink stain them some other colors!
Different stamping companies use different formulas for their acrylic and some of them yellow with age. I saw that MSE had a sticker on some of theirs that said 'non-yellowing polymer".
They need to be stored away from sunlight, I keep mine in a Stampendous tote in a dark box and so far none of mine have yellowed. I have had a few cheap ones shrivel and dry up, but I would never buy that make again! HTH!
I've seen clear MSE sets turn yellow in LSSs, but that is only when they have been on display in indirect sunlight. In contrast, in LSSs where there is no sunlight issue, all the clear stamps of all brands have remained clear. I've had a set of MSE clear stamps for several years that are still clear and firm, but I protect them from even indirect sunlight by storing them in a drawer.
*All* acrylic stamps have the possibility of turning yellow, some do it faster than others, exposure to light is the reason. It does not effect the way your stamps will stamp, I have some from MSE that have turned and they still work great.
If you have CTMH stamps that have gotten "gummy" they are probably from early in the process of making clear stamps for them, I have heard others say this happened to some of the first ones they got, they have changed the "formula" and if you buy CTMH stamps now they will not get gummy on you, promise Or if you ever soaked your clear stamps in water (like while cleaning) they can swell up and get gummy, don't ever let them sit in water
HTH
I have some CTNH stamps that have gotten sticky and gummy also. They have never been stored anywhere near sunlight or heat. They were stored in the pouches they came in and in the storage containers CTMH sells. I haven't bought any since.
On the packaging of some of the clear stamps that I have, there is info about the possiblity of them turning yellow:
Here is what it says on my MSE packaging... "Clear stamps are produced by a UV light process. Your clear stamps will continue to respond to exposure to light and may turn yellow. This is a natural process of photopolymer stamps and does not affect its stampibility."
