Are clear stamps supposed to turn yellow after time? I was in Hobby Lobby today and was just looking at the clear acrylic stamps and some of the packages - the stamps were actually yellow. Now - I know it wasn't the color they were orginally - b/c there were other packages of the same sets and they were clear. Anyone know if this occurs often? Also - they were still expensive - like $20 for a small alphabet and $29 for a little larger one. I thought they were supposed to be really cheap? Maybe I was wrong about that - I haven't bought any yet - as I tried unmounted a year or two ago and didn't really like it - but am still tempted to try again as my collection is quickly outgrowing my stamp room.
yes, and some packages even put that on there... my wordsworth ones say on the package "stamps will yellow with use and time" or something like that....
Ok. I was wondering - b/c it was different brands and they were usually the front ones in the hanging display - so I was thinking maybe the light also played into it? They could be the oldest too - as I know stores typically try to move the old stuff to the front and rotate the new to the back of the isle, stack or row.
oh, and with the half off at HL sale (they run that about once every 4-6 weeks....) it makes them CHEAP!
I am addicted now!!! The nicer ones made by Stewart Superior are fabulous... wordworth, a muse, my sentiments exactly all use them.....
yeah - i saw that - I might break down this summer - but am trying to save al ittle right now for the new catalog stuff to come out. We'll see if I make it that long or not. I just took a new job with lots of traveling (like 3-4 days a week after I get fully trained in 3 months) and was thinking one acrylic block and a set or two of spots with the acrylics and some paper would be A LOT easier to transport in my bag than wood mounteds. That little of stuff would even fit into my laptop bag.
yeah. definitely if you want to try them, go for the stewart superior kind. I was impressed with the difference! the paper studio (HL's brand) are fine, but they are very "sticky" to the touch.... you get such better stamped images with the other brand....
I think my HL had some MSE ones there today - but I could be confusing them with another stamp store I was in today. They had several brands on the racks - and even a really nice disney set - I don't know who made that one though.
The clear acrylic stamps will yellow over time. Also, those exposed to sunlight will yellow more quickly, but, it does not affect stamping ability. It's best to store them out of direct sunlight, just as you don't want to have red rubber in direct light as it will dry it out.
I went to my HL and they didn't have any acrylic stamps, but they did have all of their Sizzix 40% off. When I asked the sales associate why, she said that they are not selling. We just got the HL in our area! Hope it's not going to close too!

Yup. It is not uncommon for clear stamps to yellow over time OR exposure to sunlight.
The yellowing does not impeded their functionality, but like with ruby red rubber, I wouldn't store clear stamps in direct sunlight, anyway, just as a pre-caution.
