Question Chromatix markers?

I have seen some new alcohol ink markers by American Crafts at Michael's lately and am wondering if anyone has tried them and how they compare to Copics.

I think they are Brand New. From looking at American Craft's page. They seem pretty pricey. You get only 3 color's for $10.99 Or you can get them for $3.99 each.

I haven't used them. So I can't really tell you my opinion on them.

Just from what I just read. Here > Product List | American Crafts

Here's another link that might help. Craft Warehouse Blog

I was just checking to see if anyone had posted any info on these Chromatix markers because I was at Michaels today and bought a set of three. They had a few different color packs--they're in a pack of 3 for $9.99. I went to M's to buy a single copic marker with a 50% off coupon but I saw these Chromatix markers and used the coupon on them instead. A single marker at my Michaels is $7.99 so I saved a few pennies. I'm no expert on copic coloring and I only own about 5 of them but I'm going to try the coloring technique with these Chromatix. I'll try and post back soon.

Hi! I was just wondering if you've been able to try out the Chromatix markers yet? I saw them at Michael's and was interested in hearing from anyone that has used them. M's has a 50% off coupon now, so if they're decent I'd definitely like to try them!

Yes, as a novice I tried them and I'm pleased; I even bought another color set "grape" several weeks ago. I do need to practice more and get a better quality paper and I seem to get the same results whether I color and blend using the Chromatix or color and blend using the Copics.

Interesting that I just saw the Chromatix markers yesterday and wondered the same thing. And when I googled it, lo, and behold a discussion had already started on SCS. You guys are awesome! I'm stuck on using the BIC markers until I learn how to color and blend better than my G-kids. There's another brand of markers too that have a better price point then Copics called Spectrum Noir sold at ACM. Wondering if they are comparable....?

There are a few threads here about Spectrum Noirs that I've read and there are some YouTube comparisons as well. They sound OK too and definitely have the best price point. I just don't have a store near me that sells them. So I'll be picking up some Chromatix markers this weekend with my 50% off coupon! I love coupons...

Sorry, the coupon is not on their website; they emailed it to me. I've attached a copy if anyone would like to treat themselves to something.

In Australia that is a pretty good price point but...

The sets of 3 include a light/medium/dark and the set of 30 includes most of the colours in light/dark. I haven't seen individual markers for sale yet so would end up getting a heap of wasted markers if I started with the large set.

From what I can see, Spectrum Noir seem to have the same type of issue as there are colours between those in the packs that can only be purchased in other packs. At least they don't seem to duplicate between packs.

I think I'll be waiting a bit longer...

KoffeeKat -

With the Spectrum Noir, they're meant to be purchased in the sets of 6 first and then the 4 bigger sets to fill in if needed. The sets of 6 give you a good selection of blending companions within a color group. And you are correct - there are no duplicates within sets.

Will you guys please stop enabling me!

I went off looking at Chromatix and ended up finding spectrum Noir for about AU$2.10 each including postage! Needless to say I've just started my alcohol marker collection.

The Chromatix have been around for a while. I have the red set, and they work very well in terms of coverage and blending. I'll be buying more for sure.

I was gifted the 30 pack for my most recent 29th birthday! I like the markers a lot. I've only got a few Copic markers to compare them to but they seem just as good as the Copic markers. The one thing that I guess is probably better on the Copic is the nib, it seems to be a little softer on the paper or not so stiff may be a better way to explain it. I think that the end result of the Chromatix, on the paper, looks every bit as good as the more expensive Copic.

I think I'll be checking out the Chromatix, as well. The alcohol markers I currently own are Bic, Spectrum Noir and Prismacolor. I have to say that the Spectrums are my LEAST favorite. They are not refillable and seem to dry out rather quickly, so I don't consider them a very good value. By contrast, I've had some of the Bics and Prismas for years, and they're still going strong (except for a couple of colors that I seem to use ALL THE TIMEm which I've had to replace). I've found that they all play well together, for the most part, so filling gaps color-wise with a different brand seems to be no issue at all, if that helps... I wish that the Bics came in a wider selection of colors (true pastels, for example), and as single markers rather than in packs - I'd be all over that!

Actually, they are refillable, the refills are even available on Joann.com: Spectrum Noir Alcohol Ink Refill 30ml-BG1 at Joann.com. I haven't tried to refill mine yet, so I'm not sure how easy it is.

Refilling them is not bad. You just pull out the broad end and the refill bottle has a snout that you stick in the barrel of the pen. I think there is a video on how to do it.

Amanda - thanks for correcting that misconception! Maybe I should have done more homework before I threw a couple of them away

I picked up a 30 pack of Chromatix markers from TJ Maxx after Christmas. I REALLY like them…..although I have never tried Copics….I always thought they were toooo expensive. When I saw these, I thought I would try them. I would recommend….or enable

I haven't tried the Chromatix yet but I do really like the Spectrum Noir markers, they are refillable which is good because they do dry out quickly (especially grays and yellows for some reason) but you can find re-fills for most colors at Jo-Ann online for 1/2 price most of the time.
