Does it seem some of the CAS cards are getting away from Clean and Simple? Not a lot but some. Of course, what is difficult and time-consuming to me may be CAS to someone else. Just my opinion. What think you?
I agree...I do think for the most part they are fairly simple...but sometimes I think the line is a little blurry. What I am noticing is that many are far from CLEAN. LOL I just figure some people forget what the 'C' stands for...to me busy backgrounds and designer papers aren't in the 'clean' category, but we all have different definitions of these terms.
I do like that there is a nice trend towards *less embellished and easier to make* at least!!

I may be one of the offenders of people uploading cards to the CAS challenge that are not clean and simple enough. I used to never upload because I was afraid that my cards might not fit the category. But then Miss Boo seemed to be encouraging more people to forget about that worry, when she added this into the explanation of the challenge

So maybe that is why you are seeing the change. At least to me it seemed like an invitation to not worry so much and just upload what was a CAS card to me without worrying that it might not be a CAS card to everyone.
One day I decided to look at the CAS cards in the gallery and was astonished to see some cards in that gallery. To me CAS is something like what JulieHRR creates.
Trina, I looked at a few CAS cards in your gallery and they weren't what I would call beyond my boundaries of CAS.
And in any case, nobody is an offender here just that the meaning of CAS, to different people, seems to have a wider spectrum than one would have thought.
I sometimes have a hard time deciding whether one of my cards should be considered CAS. I may keep with a very simple layout but end up adding borders/mats to the layers or using a lot of patterned paper. So it may look clean but not be simple or it may be simple but not look "clean". I have been keeping the background stamping to a minimum and I hardly use embellishments, so overall, I think I make mostly CAS cards but when I'm not sure, I don't use the keyword "CAS" on my posts. I do though see some cards in the CAS gallery that have a LOT of "stuff" on them. I guess to the person who made them, if they usually make cards with 10 layers and 5 embellishments and then they make a card with just 7 layers and 3 embellishments, maybe to them that is simple. But I agree with Cher that they still don't seem "clean". Frankly, if I'm scanning the CAS gallery and I see one of those cards that doesn't seem to "go" there, I skip it and move on to the next truly clean and simple card.
It reminds me of the magazine "Take Ten" - some are, some aren't.
:mrgreen: Well said! Having been published in Take Ten, I know for a fact that some of my cards were Take Ten...and another Ten....and another Ten! Some of us just work more slowly than others. ;)
As for CAS, everyone does have a different different definition, but like most subjective things, "you know it when you see it!" CAS is my very most favorite style right now, probably because it is a real challenge for me not to clutter up my card with every gee-gaw and embellishment that is within reach. I so admire those who can create an eye-catching card with very minimal adornment.
Thought it was just me. I, too, think of clean as very few embellishments. I don't mind decorative paper and paper "ribbons". I go to Clean and Simple blog to find inspiration. Posted my take on one of her sketches on my blog's latest entry. http://stampinheart.blogspot.com No layers on this one and no embellishments. All stamps and pen work.
Well, like Jen/MissBoo says, the definition of "CAS" is up for personal interpretation. Not that I'm a real CAS stamper, but here's my rule of thumb:
Clean: a heavy allotment of "white space" (whether it's white or coloured doesn't matter) Simple: not a lot of tools or product used (patterned paper is fine to me as that's very simple to create pattern rather than an in-depth technique that requires oodles of stuff but it also does not imply only quick either)
I love looking at the CAS cards. I think I'm drawn to that style. The great thing about the gallery search is just being able to skip over if it's not my style, be it CAS or any other search I'm doing. I love the CAS challenges, and I'm glad to see so many people participating. Someone already mentioned this, but to a person who adds lots of goodies, and then cuts way back, it may seem very clean, to others not. Variety is truly the spice of life!
I think a little reality check is in order when it comes to CAS card making.
As Michelle Zindorf said the other day, the current trend is to have 15 layers on a card. If the stamper is one who likes 15 layers....kudos to them....and then makes a card with "only" ten layers...it is simple to them ....but it is NOT a CAS card. That person just doesn't stamp in the CAS style. Some people don't. No harm, no foul in that.
My point is...the stampers who love lots of stuff happening on their work...who then only put half the stuff on their work and call it CAS because it is simple in their eyes....Nuh! Ladies...you just don't stamp in the CAS style....You know it isn't and to try and justify by saying you usually put more stuff on the card ....mmmm....
I agree that a lot of cards in the CAS section just are not CAS cards...CLEAN and SIMPLE. Really and truly...Can you honestly say they are?
A good indicator is to show your card to a child or a non stamper....they can usually see straight up without bias if it is CAS.
