Default Card Displays

Hi. I am trying to muster up the nerve to approach store owners to carry my handmade cards. I thought that I would try flower shops and book stores and gift stores. I need input: Any tips from cardmakers who successfully sell to stores? How do you approach store owners -- by telephone asking for an appointment or just walk in? How do you display your cards? If I go to a store should I have my own display? Does anyone have a nice display for A2 cards? THANKS. donna

My sweet hubby goes and shows my cards...he is good at getting people to take them for sale. But he is a salesman so it is in his blood. I did not have any trouble at all getting my local swim teams to purchase my cards for fund raisers. I just took 5 cards and asked. I wanted them to see what I could do. They jumped on it right away.
blessings.

A few years ago we took sample cards to boutique type stores, gift shops, and yes I would try flower shops too, even hospital gift shops. Some stores agreed to buy them, some wanted exclusive rights in their area to sell. We found that A2 cards with mailing envelope inside a clear envelope sold well. Some stores do not want customers to "handle" the cards so the envelope and card stayed together.
We also found just a many people wanted the inside of the card to be blank as those wanting a sentiment on the inside.

Good luck, it is not always easy "getting in" a store.
