Buttons needed for memorial...

Hi stampers!

Our local Jewish community is looking for button donations. They are collecting 6 milion buttons for their Holocaust memorial. They plan on displaying the buttons at their synagogue in clear cylinders, so visitors can visualize the magnitude of a number like 6 million. If you would like to help out, you can mail donations to:

My daughter will be singing in a production of Brundibar at a Holocaust Remembrance Concert in the Spring.

So important to remember and teach our children about this dark time in history. I will keep your request in mind as I clean out my craft area.

Is there a certain size of buttons that are needed? I have lots and would love to help out. I took my two youngest children and one of their friends to D.C. two years ago and we visited the Holocaust Museum (Permanent Display), it is something I will never ever forget as long as I live.

Thanks everyone!! They are accepting any size, shape, and color of buttons. 6 million is an enormous number, so they are not particular on the look of the buttons. They just need the proper amount. Currently they only have about 100,000 buttons. They figure it will take them about 2 years to collect 6 million buttons. I thought getting some crafters involved may cut down on that 2 year mark.

I have a bunch of bigger buttons that I won't use on my cards so I will be happy to donate. I will try to send some next month when I have a good amount to send. Thanks for giving me a chance give these to a great cause!

What a wonderful idea! I grew up in Israel and had the honour of meeting some Holocaust survivors and visited Yad Vashem quite a few times...very powerful and life changing experience.

I have a bunch to send. I save all the extra buttons that come with new clothing in a tin. I never use most of them. I think that's a great project (although I wouldn't want to be in charge of counting!)

LOL!! "Whose package will weigh the most?". Some gals might not want to share this info. Then they would have to admit just how many un-used buttons they have laying around.

Of course most of us crafters will readily admit to our hoarding abilities. It's projects like this that help us get rid of some of our stash.

I just came across this and I hope you dont' mind but I am headed to a retreat next weekend so I posted it to our group and on my FB page! Hopefully, with everyone working on it 6 million will be acheived sooner rather than later!! We will NEVER forget!!!

There is a woman of the congregation who is spearheading the project. I'm sure she is keeping track. Although I know she is also including the youth of the synagogue in the project as well.
