Anyone notice that Michael's raised their price on the dollar spot items?
Anyone notice that Michael's raised their price on the dollar spot items? At our store, everything is $1.50 now. I am curious if you think it is going to hurt their sales? I know I saw several impulse purchases that I was going to make (when I thought that they were a buck each), but the 1.50 price left a bad taste in my mouth and I ended up not buying ANY of them. I talked with some friends and they were totally turned off and are boycotting that section now - LOL. Just curious what everyone else is thinking?
I haven't cruised into Michael's yet this year (lol!) but, if that's true, I will not be buying much from those bins. I've cut way back on ANY impulse buys, and anything over a buck requires further reflection on if it's worth it. Unless something REALLY grabs me, I'll be leaving it there... Same held true for me when Target added the "2 for $5" to the Dollar Spot. I leave those things well alone, too! Ditto on JoAnn's. Dollar deals still seem like deals. Anything over that, not so much, ya know?
There goes inflation again. And Oregon raised the minimum wage to $8.80 an hour-I'm sure it went up in other states too. I'm expecting lots of things will creep up in price this year. :(
I only bought 4 of those stamps last Halloween, so I've always been super picky anyway.
Yeah. I also noticed their packs of 8 cards are now packs of 6 and all over the place the volume in a package or amount in a package is shrinking and the price either stays the same OR goes up. :(

That's what drives me up the wall more than a straightforward and honest price increase. I feel as if they're trying to fool or trick us. News Flash: it's never fooled anyone!
Our Michael's raised the $1 prices to $1.50 several months ago and I stopped buying. That's a 50% increase. It's not worth it. I hope others stop buying too.
The prices have been that way for quite some time (since the beginning of the summer2011). When I saw the price increase, I just decided not to buy from the bin.

Just like cereal! The boxes look the same from the front but they are so much skinnier! I don't think they were 10-12oz boxes before!
I noticed that some of the items were over $1 the last time I was there...made it that much easier for me to resist. My biggest pet peeve at Michael's is when they put seasonal items onto clearance but not everything in the area is considered seasonal. Separate the items or don't put the sign up!!!!!
The last time I was in our Michaels the $1 stuff was still $1 and the Christmas items were 50 cents. This doesn't surprise me with the '20% off your entire purchase' coupons they have had a lot lately. I used to stock up on those $1 items with those coupons
The regular price for Christmas picks and sprigs was nuts this year at Michael's
I have always made my own wreaths and other Christmas decorations for my self and the family. I saw a sprig of silver glitter mini pine cones. The regular price was listed as $12.99. The entire sprig was about 12" long with maybe a dozen mini pine cones on it . The mini pine cones are each about 1" long. Even at 60% off it would have been $5.20 plus tax.
Those were $3.99 ( regular price) a couple of years ago. No way will I pay 50 a piece for mini 1" pine cones!!
I will go to the park and pick up free little pine cones, and buy a can of silver spray paint and sprinkle them with glitter. I will have bags of them for the price of the paint.
They must think either we don't know the price of things or that we will pay any price for something we want.

I never buy $1 bin things either. I don't have space to store things I "may" use someday.
However, if manufacturers and stores keep raising prices they may kill the Golden Goose and people will go back to only buying basics such as food. gas, shelter and replacing necessities. Then where will this economy be?
I am grateful I have what I have.

I am usually a sucker for these $1 impulse items and they really add up! It's easy to love 10 items and then you already have $10 worth of stuff. I didn't even bother with these $1.50 items. Michaels saved me money with the new price. ;)
It seems that it's individual stores that raised the price not the whole chain. I go to 4 diffirent Michaels and 2 raised the price this summer and 2 didn't, maybe that will change. Anyway, I agree that it has helped me stop to impulse buys of stuff I never use. I only buy the chipboard mini album shapes now and I get them at the stores that are still $1
i only buy it when it's on sale - at $1 it was ok, but not now. The white chipboard books last year were great. This year they are grey, 1 page less and don't look nearly as nice.
I had barely bought anything from those bins for awhile now. My local store was still $1, but I haven't been in there for weeks now. Prices could have gone up. I doubt I'd by anything there now if the price goes up. Nothing there has caught my eye for a long time. Even if something did catch my eye, it already had to have an immediate use or I wouldn't get it. If the price goes up, it would have to be pretty darn special to purchase it. Since I seldom find anything pretty darn special in that store at all, I think I'll be keeping my money.
