What is your 'go to move' when your card isn't turning out the way you want it? I tend to pop dot! Seriously, I'm like the mad-pop-dotter when I get stumped!!!
I'll just let the card sit there for a day or two. I find that if I'm "pushing" to finish a card, I'm forcing the issue. Then I end up with something I don't like or later want to try to change (which usually requires trying to pulling it apart and ruining it).
Good question! I'm also a Stickles girl. If it's looking "blah" I put a Stickles border around the piece of cardstock with the stamped image, that usually gives it a better focus. It works great especially if it's mounted on another piece of CS. I've also started using little pieces of sheer ribbon as flags on the sides of the piece of CS with the image stamped on it.

I add black and/or brads (just love them). I tend to use a lot of crystal effects and dazzling diamonds too. I agree with some of the other posters - sometimes less really is more!

I had a floral design instructor who used to say (during critiques), "well, if you can't make it good, make it gold!" and whip out a can of gold spray paint. She was tough. But, I guess my point is, I reach for the Stardust or Spica pens and make it glittery!
I go away and come back the next day.
Usually take something away.
And I ask my husband. I don't always agree with what he says, but he is interested in what I do, and sometimes the fact that I disagree with him helps me decide what I do like about it and I stick with the original.
I have a few solutions- Ticket corner punch, layers, button brads( can't live without them lately), any embellishments I have in the colors I am using OR I put all the pieces away and start something new or take a break- I get stale sometimes and that frustrates me into making a blah card! I loved some of the other answers- LOL!

It certainly makes men more attractive, seems reasonable that it would work for cards, too. ;)
Kidding also!
Yeah, until you see them the next day. One of those what the heck was I thinking moments:rolleyes:...been there, done that, threw away the cards .
When a card just isn't coming together I will do one or all of the following:
Try the card elements on a different color card base.
Change the size/shape of the card base - analyze if the proportions are wacky on the card (too much "stuff" on too little base  )
Think outside-the-box. What unexpected do-da could I add to the card front to carry forward the theme? For example, with a western card, I might add a bit of twine or real wood bark. On the flip-side I might go totally stark and simple and remove all the distracting elements in an effort to let the image carry the card.
When I find myself gobbing on the embellishments, I know I'm headed for a train-wreck and stop myself before they are all permanently attached! It's much easier to rescue a card when you don't have to pry the elements apart with a tool. ;)
When none of these things work, I toss the unfinished card in a protector envelope and put it in my Possibles Box. When it comes time to send in Take Ten submissions and I'm short on ideas, I pull out the possibles box and whip out 10 min cards with the parts and pieces. Amazingly enough, a good portion of these quick-and-dirty cards have been published, much to my dismay.
I don't have a go to tool when I am in trouble. I put the piece that isn't working down and come back to it the next day - It usually comes together then. I don't know why or how - but it works for me.
Funny you should ask...I've been walking away from a baby announcement (for my niece) all darn day. She wants the main card (std size) in Brilliant Blue (doesn't like pastels); it will have a b&w photo of the new guys tootsies on the front layered on a lighter blue (tried a bluish/grayish layer); with saying of some sort also on the front. Was using a piece of white c/s where the b&w photo will be just for placement; finally realized the starkness of the white was throwing me off so off it came. Pieces were repositioned; tried a different shape for the saying; tried different corner punches; tried distressing around the main layer; tried knotting the ribbon, doing a bow; gathering it (it's wired); laying the ribbon behind & between - Finally left it for the night but I'm really close & will probably add an embellishment (maybe brads.
All of the above I what I usually try - for me 'bling' doesn't work as well as other things.
Have fun,
Kitty
