Been playing around with water coloring lately. What is the best ink to use when stamping your image on water color paper so the ink does not run when wet ? ??????
I use Stazon, in fact I am having a watercoloring class tonight and we will be discussing inks to use. Stazon is wonderful, dries fairly quickly and does not run at all. Have fun!
India Ink is by Memories (Stewart Superior). It's what I use. If you're learning to watercolour, I recommend using a pigment ink and heat embossing. Those little ridges act as dams to help keep your colours from running together where you don't want them to.
My favorite ink is Ranger's Jet Black Archival. It also comes in beautiful coffee and sepia colors among others. It is waterproof when heat set. Just give it a quick blast with the heat gun. It also gives a beautiful dark impression so I use it all the time except when I want to color with my Copics. It also doesn't smell like Stazon.
Versafine and Palette are my favorites. Sometimes SU Basic Black runs even after it's dried for quite a while. I can't use Staz-On :( as the chemical in the pads give me a slight allergy response. It's funny though - I just did a class on tumbled tile coasters and I made one using all SU products spraying in between the image with Workable Fixative and then coloring and finishing off with Matte Finish spray. The class also used all SU products except for Palette's black. Mine is the hummingbird and the class used the French Foliage set from SU. I have both up on my blog.

I agree that using pigment ink with het set is the way to go. My favorite is good old-fashioned SU black craft with heat setting. It is a juicey pad that covers the images really well.
PS...if you heat set your watercolor between each color that you apply to your image you will avoid having your inks run together.
I use either Ancient Page or VersaFine. If my image is really detailed, I go w/ the VersaFine. I don't heat set either one and I've never had a problem.
Anytime I have done a watercolouring tech. I stamp with Memento ink and heat emboss. It give a nice bit of a raised edge too and helps define the image.
Thanks, Lydia, for the mention of the India ink. I have some stashed away, which I had bought years ago for watercoloring. I had totally forgotten about it.

Attached is a booklet that I use for my watercolor class. It might be of some help. It doesn't discuss all the possible inks to use however it does discuss paper and a variety of watercolor techniques.
