Ugly cards
Do you ever make a card, or set of them and think they're nice........then the next day, or a few months later you look at them and think, "Holy crow! That is so ugly!" I just looked back at a couple of my early cards in the gallery and I think I have to delete them and then go throw away the card. Geez, I hope I didn't send some of them out.
I made it for a swap but now I look back at it and think "I can't believe anyone liked it". But I liked it when I made it and it shows how I have improved my stamping skills.

I like it! You obviously didn't see my uglies in my gallery!
Hey, how do you get your words "like this" to be a link?
oh yeah - all the time... once I hate it - it gets deleted from my gallery and/or added to my scrap pile. My DD likes to glue things on when we 'stamp' together so she is very generous with her praise when adding one of my uglies to her creations!

I think (IMHO) that looking at the gallery really helps improve our stamping ability. I know for me I was so proud of my cards with just a couple of layers then I found SCC and was introduced to backgrounds, And now you have me using two or even three backgrounds on one card (gasp). This site and all the creative people here challenges us to become better and better. Aren't we lucky!!
Most of the cards in my gallery are ugly. I've only started making cards (scrapbooker for years) and you definately need to have an eye. Although I did delete some of the worst cards in my gallery I usually don't delete them until there are better ones to replace them. I find my gallery just helps to show my progress. I really like some of my most recent cards now, but next year? Hopefully I'll hate them.

Well, the ones I don't like I save for the in-laws ;-)
I like that!
To answer the question...yes, I've done cards that are ugly...and I've received some too I've thrown a few away...I've recycled some...some are still waiting for their fate.
My first "cards" (using that term loosely) were hideous. I don't know how people humored me into thinking they were ok. What's worse is my early scrapbook pages. Lots of white space covered with lots of pictures (cut into shapes) with lots of little stickers. Anyone with me? Yeesh.

This made me seriously LOL!!!!! My in-laws aren't even good enough to get my horrible cards.
I also just started stamping, in January. I joined this site at the same time & I can't even say in words how much I've learned here!!! So, hopefully I'm getting better. I've deleted a couple from my gallery already. My 7yr old son really likes my cards so I usually give them to him. In fact, I gave him one tonight I wasn't too thrilled about, & he was so pleased!!! He put it up in his room, in front of his fishtank "so the fish can enjoy it too" LOL!!!

Kurtis, I'm almost embarassed to admit that your "ugly" card is listed in my favorites!! I think I put it there when that set was on sale and I liked your layout....not sure what that says about me & my stamping.....
Without reading the responses that others have posted, I feel the same way about my scrapbooking pages.... but I see it as a visual of my style developing, sorta of like a progression. OK, now to read the posts of others.
Michele... Fun thread! Glad to know there are others who share my feelings. (misery loves company)
Kurtis... It's okay man. You were much younger then!!!
When I look at my cards compared to the truly AWESOME work that others create, then most of mine are still pretty crummy. But, if I compare them to what I was doing about 18 months ago (pre-Splitcoast) then I am at least seeing improvement.
All the new techniques --- wow! Most of my early cards were just one piece of cardstock with one image stamp and one phrase. BLAH!!!!
I also have a lot of trouble during VSN. It goes SO FAST that I can't take enough time to "design" what I'm doing --- just slap it together.
I do that all the time - even stuff I made a few months ago I look at and wonder what was I thinking??? I look at some of the stuff I first started uploading and just shake my head. I won't delete any of it tho b/c I like to see how much my work changes over time. Even DH noticed that my cards were "getting a lot better" so I must be doing something right!! ;)
I think its an amazing thing to keep the cards from start to see how your styles and taste changes over time , it really shows alot and I do look at cards and think gee's but other people look in my box of cards and say these are awesome and pull soem out i think no way! .
lifes a party live it well!

I still think most of my cards are ugly. lol. I've been stampin for a couple of years now, but have only been into SU for about 8 months. But yeah, I get that all the time, one day I'll make the card, put it in my gallery, then the next day, I'm like wow thats kinda ugly. At first I was wondering why my cards didn't have many comments, but then I looked back at them...lol. What kinda bites for me though, is I don't have anyone to give the ugly cards to...My Inlaws are pretty cool...but then again I've only been married 3 years.

Yep, I've got those too. I hid that scrapbook, because it is my wedding stuff and things from the first-born. That scrapbook is NOT out for public display!
I have a bunch of "unloved" ones in my gallery, some have been sent and some sit in my card collection box to be used. Some made when I first started and some made last week. It is just the way I think. I won't delete them for now unless size limits in gallery become an issue. I need something to laugh about. But it just comes down to artistic style. A true artist is rarely satisified with their own work. Many famous artist could have thrown their work away if it was up to me. I just keep trying, creating and having fun. That's all that matters. I'll send the card because I'm too cheap to throw them away. And tomorrow or later today I'm going to do another one that I'm not totally thrilled with....
Just recently, I deleted about 25 cards from my gallery that I didn't like. I thought they were great when I made them, but I have improved. I was off for spring break this past week and uploaded quite a few cards. I wonder which ones I'll think are ugly in a few months and want to delete? LOL!
Lots of times I leave a card sitting for awhile to see if I can think of a way to improve it with some embellishments. I tend to like very simple cards. Sometimes just a shadow stamp behind a flower or butterfly and a sentiment, especially on sympathy cards. Plus I am too cheap to put lots of embellishments on one card. I admit it!!!

I don't delete any, but I will look back and think or say, "OMG, what was I thinking when I made this?" It's one of the things that happens I guess. The sad part, a lot of the cards I think are ugly, are ones I have given away right at the time for what ever occassion. Those poor souls!!

Me, too.

This made me laugh--I'm loathe to put lots of embellishments on a card myself, but not because I'm too cheap (as my massive embellishment collection can attest to), BUT rather because I'm an embellishment w'hore-der. ROTFL!!!! I'm afraid if I use any of it, well, I'll run out! Pathetic or what?????
As for ugly cards, well, the circular file archives many of mine! ;)

I'm a new stamper, so a lot of my cards a pretty ugly. Even in the short time I've been stamping, I'll look at a card I thought was beautiful when I made it, but now am like, what was I thinking????? LOL

Quoting Julie...."because I'm an embellishment w'hore-der"
HA! This made me giggle out loud! I love that....
..and I'm honored to have you post to my thread Julie! I can't imagine you've ever made anything ugly! I'm guessing there was no "ugly" requirement to be part of the Dirty Dozen!!

oh yeah! I hate to see my first stuff but first we crawl, then we walk.... I can't wait until I can fly!!!
Some of my early uglies go when I need to send a check or a note to a business. They don't know me from Adam & I get to use up uglies. hmmm, did I mention, I can be cheap, too?
Oh yeah! I actually don't even have my earlier stuff in my gallery at all. Too embarrased to put it in there. Let's just say they aren't good. But recently I did one for Regionals for SU demos and I loved it but now I look back on it and I really don't like it. THIS one. I think we all have moments like that.

even worse - have you done a swap and then realized hours, days, weeks, months, years later that you just send 10 people the ugliest piece of work? I cringe to think who got them and what they must have thought. Sometimes this site inspires me and sometimes it overwhelms me and I think I can't even case the great work on here let alone make some myself!!!
