I went to my first calligraphy class last night at a local art studio. Whewee, it was fun! I am so looking forward to applying what I learn to my paper arts. The teacher showed us some watercolor work she had done with a verse done in calligraphy incorporated into the art - wow! I know I have a long way to go, but I was thinking about how pretty the lettering would look with the Lovely as a Tree set with a watercolor wash background.
Isn't it just so worth it when we step out of our comfort zone to learn something new?
Oh isn't calligraphy great?! I used to take classes at my grandmothers insistence over summer breaks and wow...it's a neat thing...and when you''re good people will pay you a ton of money to address invitations and things for them!!!
Good for you!!!! I have a calligraphy set from Scheaffer sitting here unused..I guess I should break open the box huh? I used to enjoy playing around with my old set in my youth.
Marcy, I see you are also from PA, where is this art studio?

We're over in Western PA between Pittsburgh and Erie.
I would love to learn calligraphy. I messed around with it in grade school a little until some mean boys found out what I was doing and stole my pens. They hid them and made fun of me :( I wonder if anywhere around me does it!

I'm a calligrapher, and stamping is DEFINITELY not my comfort zone, but I'm rather enjoying this excursion!! I just bound my first book and am hoping to incorporate some stamping into the binding...but as I've been looking, I'm falling in love with the idea of stamping my borders instead of tediously redrawing them every...single....time....again...and...again....
Oh, out of curiosity, did the art studio have you use felt nibs? Or did you guys plunge right ahead with metal nibs?

Ugh, that's too bad. I tried when I was younger too, but I used the pens with the ink cartridges, and the ink didn't flow smoothly. I like dipping into the ink much better; I think it gives me more control. I hope you find some place in your area to take a class.
