How do you get the effect where the glitter is just a hint? It is usually flat and just has a very thin and not a consistent layer of glitter. I have seen it on several sample cards in my local stamp dealer, but have not had the chance to ask how they achieve the effect.
Versamark Dazzle might have been used to leave a hint of shimmer also. Sounds like what might have been used on those cards, Kat.
Stickles are great! I love and use them, but you do have to allow for drying time. I have tried to heat set, and it does work, but looks more "puckery" than if you let it air dry. I have a ceiling fan in my stamp room, so I put my card with stickles under that for about an hour, and that's usually all it takes, sometimes even less. Also, Stickles will shrink when it dries.. so if you put a glob in the center of a flower, keep that in mind. It will dry smaller and more compact and raised a bit.
I like the look of fine glitter sometimes, too.. and it's nice because you generally don't have any drying time to think about. Just make sure you're not using your ceiling fan when you're using the glitter though... lol.
Judikins makes a product called 'Sticky Stuff' embossing powder- same idea, stamp, sprinkle with this embossing powder then heat, then add glitter. Also regular Clear embossing ink will do the same thing. I found the Staz-on glue pad was good, the 'Pallette' heat & stick one not so good. DST, any clear drying glue, clear glaze will all work depending on the effect you want. I have seen a cool technique using sheets of double sided sticky film. Take a brass stencil, and cut a piece of film the same size. Rub over the brass stencil with ordinary soap(this stops it getting stuck to the tape). Peel off the front covering of the film, and put the stencil in place.Sprinkle ultrafine glitter over the top. Pour excess back into container.Gently remove stencil. Sprinkle a different colour UFG over the now blank spaces. Peel off backing sheet & attach to cardstock.
My favorite way is to apply glitter to a small area is to use a small glue pen, like 2-way glue, quickie glue pen, or tombow even makes a small ballpoint pen sized glue pen. I apply the glue pen where i want the glitter, then spoon on a bit of glitter and tap off the excess. For slightly larger areas, I use a 2-way glue pen -- it has a larger tip, but still allows a thin, precise application. If I'm covering entire pieces of chipboard or wood shapes, I use a white glue or glossy accents as the adhesive, and then apply the glitter.

Maybe the designer used a VersaMark pad, or Perfect Medium, along with PearlEx powders? I'd need to see the sample to make a more educated guess...

Twinkling H2O? I have some shimmer paints ... just a soft touch of shimmer (I think I was a crow in a former life, love that hint of shimmer/sparkle, lol!)

I like using Stickles AND loose glitter. I put down the Stickles and then add loose glitter while it's still wet. Makes for a really sparkley finish. With all that glitter, it's a little dimensional.
