I love the glitter everyone is putting on their cards these days. What techniques are you using? Is most everything embossed? Please help the clueless find her bling.
Rather than using straight glitter, I've been using Stickles a lot. I love putting it on the middle of flowers or if the flowers are tiny, on random petals. The sparkle really brings cards up a notch!
Stickles are easier to use and very addicting. There are a few great places online you can buy them. Try Stampin' D'Amour (www.stampindamour.com) $1.79 each--get Free shipping with "FREESHIP" couponcode. Fast shipping too.
Stickles is like a tube of clear glue but with glitters in them.
I bought some SU glitters and have only used them once. I love them, they look nice, but wow, what a mess!! I had glitters on me, my craft room, the floor that I walk on (the police would have found me very quickly if I stole or killed anybody), my hubby, my child, my dog, EVERYTHING!!!
Days later, after I mopped, and whipped, they were still around. Hubby hated it and has given me threats if I use them again.
Dd loves them tho... which 4-yr-old doesn't like to sparkle, right?
Also the great thing about stickles is that they are in a suspended liquid. The glitter doesn't gather around the bottom of the container...so there is not real need to shake the container to spread out the glitter. I love them! I still do a lot of embossing and glitter but not as much now that I have a wide variety of stickle colors.

I had no idea that Stickles was glitter glue! My DD's have a tub of glitter glue pens that I bought from M's. I have thought about using them on the cards, but never did. What makes the Stickles brand so much better than your basic glitter glue?

Stickles has a very fine tip for precise placement of the glitter glue. I love it so much I have about 25 bottles of the stuff, LOL. It's just so much easier than using loose glitter, less messy, quicker. Stickles has two sizes of glitter chunks, too. One is fine (my fave) and one is larger. Both work great.
I think the Stickles are more smooth, the glitters are not so rough. At WalMart there are some glitter glue in the fabric department I think that are similar but the kids glitters are not my favorite.
I use the loose glitter with the Zig 2-Way Glue Pen. It is messy, but I love how it looks! I really like Barbara Tombow's Art Glitter---they have a good selection of colors at Cornish Heritage Farms.

Most of the time I use Stickles but sometimes I just want a "finer" look of glitter so I have been using the Quickie Glue Pen and ultrafine glitter. LOVE this look. Don't get me wrong, I grab for the Stickles most because it is easier and less messy, but I still love the look of ultrafines!

Do you have any recommended colors?
If you only want to start with a few, I highly recommend "Diamond"...it dries clear and just adds sparkle to the color you have used underneath.
I started with the clear stickles colors, then added colors that went with flowers well, like yellow for the center.
I would also recommend using SU's dazzling diamonds, it is a very beautiful fine glitter. You also need an adhesive of some sort, two-way glue pen, heat and stick powder or you can mix it with crystal effects for a beautiful look! Have fun!

I have been using Doodlebug Sugar coating glitter or Art Institute glitter. Both brands are loose, and very, very shiny!
I use the art institute glitter and that works well, it kind of seals in the glitter somewhat so that it does not fall off. It also has a very fine tip on the bottle that you can use to trace fine lines.
i just use the glitter like we did in grade school: put your glue on the paper where you want it, shake the glitter on, and tap the excess off. Then allow to dry.
You can get a funnel tray so you can put the glitter back in the bottle.
Somehow I can't find the edit button,, but I meant art institute glitter glue. There are 2 varieties- I use the one that says, "dries clear". You can also use a little hairspray to seal your glitter.

I love the sugar coating glitter. I run the piece through my Xyron on both sides, and cover one side with glitter. I really like the sugar coating because it has black glitter! Here's a card I made using a dark brown sugar coating glitter:
I love, love stickles!!! I use it on almost everything (flowers, patterned paper, chipboard). I also have some Martha Stewart glitter that I bought on clearance after Easter but I have yet to use it. Anyone care to share their take on her glitter?
So, I just ordered from stampingdamour and used the free shipping code. I am going to try six colors. I got the copic spica markers and am very disappointed in them - should have just sent them back. They are understated to the point that you can hardly see the sparkle. What fun is that?!

I use gel pens stardust pens, db sugar glitter or stickles. I acmoore has them. I just bought some at thescrapbookmarket the other day. They are having a going out of business sale.
I love putting a glitter edge across the bottom or side of a card. I do this by applying a strip of double stick tape (the one with the red peel off plastic) right along the edge. Then I sprinkle ultrafine glitter over it in the funnel tray, and get the tape all covered. Shake off the excess and pour it back into the glitter tube.

I just bought the glitter pens a few weeks ago, and I love them! I can see the sparkle no problem, there's no mess, and no drying time like with Stickles (although I love Stickles, too!)
Thanks for the replies, especially the examples! I need to check out Stickles.
I do have one more question. I saw a card that had a clear glitter coating with a stamped image underneath. It reminded me a bit of the microbead pens, but it wasn't the beads. How do you think that was done?
It was probably a glitter window. You use clear packing tape over a window cut into your cardstock and then cover the packing tape with clear glitter. I just posted a card on my blog with a variation on the glitter window, and a tutorial will post tomorrow morning.
Here is a link to Beate's awesome glitter window tutorial: Glitter Window Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers
Back to add it could also be dazzling diamond dust which uses Irridescent Ice embossing powder (basically clear EP with glitter mixed in). That tutorial is here: Dazzling Diamond Dust Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

Thank you! I'm pretty sure it was the dazzling diamond dust. Do you need to use glossy paper for it to work?

I love this idea! I never think about using my xyron for things like glitter!!
Has anyone tried the Glue Pad where you would stamp the image on the glue pad (like a stamp pad) and then sprinkle with glitter?
How is the coverage?
Kim
I tried one brand and didn't like it. The glitter didn't stick.
What I have tried and do like a lot is heat & stick powder. You would stamp with either versamark or pigment ink, sprinkle heat & stick powder and heat just until it melts. pour on the glitter, tap off excess and heat again slightly.

I've tried it and it works great. I did some ATC's over a year ago and the glitter is still stuck and not coming off. The tip is to make sure your glue pad is really inked/glued up.

couple of questions.. Where do you get this glue pad? and How do you get your stamp clean? I would be curious to try this.
