This time of year I tell my customers Rich Regals because it has all the colors to do flowers, guy stuff and Christmas. They aren't too bright and they give a classy beautiful look.

Earth Elements, because they are not easy colors to find in stores. When I became a demo, I already had assorted markers that were bold, so that's the first set I bought.
What do you usually do with markers? If you're planning to do a lot of coloring in, the Soft Subtles are good--but not if you're planning to do a lot of coloring directly on the stamp itself--a darker set would be better then.
But ultimately you should choose the color family that is your favorite. Which of the four appeals to you the most right off the bat?

I was thinking rich regals or earth elements, but with christmas wasn't sure which one would be better, I like to colour images mostly right now as I'm still very new and learning but have coloured a few times right on the stamps but my results were not what I expected. I have the martha stewart markers but they leave what looks like lint on the paper if you colour to hard and honestly the colours are kinda limiting if you're using su ink pads so they don't match some come close but thought I'd start getting the su markers.
Earth Elements. There are a few colors in there that I use so much more often than the other families...like Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie. Thats just me. I love having all the markers....the next family I use frequently would probably be Rich Regals.
If you could only get one set (colour family) to start which set would you get?

Which color family do you use the most??? That's the one I would pick. For me it was Soft Subtles. And I had to have the Chocolate Chip marker so I bought it separate at first then got a second one when I got the Earth Elements. (But really one can never have enough chocolate supplies!)
It depends when you plan to buy the next set. If you can't for several months, I'd say go with bold brights. If you can buy one closer to the holidays, I'd suggest Earth elements which is more seasonal now.
My first set that I got was the soft subtles. I love coloring with very soft marker colors, not so bright and those really did the trick for me. It was years until I got a second set which was the earth tones.

My advice, like many others, is go with the color family that appeals to you the most. This way you know you will use them! Remember each color family has a yellow, blue, red, and green. You can always purchase individual colors to complete the color palette if you so desire.
It is always a personal decision but it is nice to have input! Good luck on your decision.

Rich Regals are my favorite, but too, I have to say that it depends on the time of year. I look at Rich Regals as winter cololrs, Soft Subtles as spring, Bold Bright as summer and Earth Elements as fall. But I really like the deep colors of the Rich Regals the best.
I buy markers individually. I buy what I want when I want it. And I know that I will probably never use the Glorious Green marker, so it's not worth it for me to have.
Something to think about.............

I'm sorry, but I had to chuckle when I got to the bottom of this thread! Everyone likes something different!
Like several have said, this is really a personal choice. You have to pick out what you think you will use. Go to the catalog and look over all the colors and see what appeals to you most. Good luck.

Earth elements for me becasue I love that color family the most. You should choose the color family that you love the most.
But I would also echo what others have said and encourage you to join a marker club where you get one color family a month. That way you break up the expense and at the end of 4 months have everything and the caddy. I love my marker caddy almost as much as I love the markers!
I would have to say Soft Subtles, and I'll tell you why. The other three sets are mainly dark colors, and for me dark colors often look childish when I can't stay within the lines. Try as I might, I can't always color within the lines...lol All of the Soft Subtles colors are light enough that it looks fine when I'm off a bit. For straight coloring of images, I mostly use the SS. I do use all my marker colors for different things, but it is rare when I will just use a dark marker to color a large area.
I would get the color group that you love the best. For me it's soft subtles.

well, I must say that I'm a bold brights gal so that gets my vote...but if you are going to use markers a lot for coloring directly on cardstock make sure that you get a permanent black ink (like STazOn) that won't bleed when you go over it with a marker. Nothing like the look of Yo Yo Yellow over a black image and ending up with Yo Yo Yuck! lol! Jan
p.s. I have never bought markers by the set but have a ton of them purchased one at a time individually...love the markers!
