In Sept DH and I are taking a vacation and I wanted to ask all you ladies if there are any stores I should try to hit on my trip. We are headed from NJ to Roanoke, VA, then to Asheville, NC, then to Raleigh, NC. I already plan to stop at the Handcraft House on Rt 29 in Madion, VA on the way down and at Archivers when we get to Raleigh. Any place else I should try to get to?

I visit the Handcraft House and they are having a super stamping Saturday in Sept. (I think it is the second Sat.)/ They have remodeled and have a great set-up of stamps, dp, cs, supplies, etc. I don't know of any going southwest. If you find some names please let me know as I will be traveling to my niece's wedding in Sept. near Blacksburg.
I live in Raleigh and go to Archiver's all the time but if I had a choice I would give up Archiver's and hit Stamper's Alley. I've been there three times (it's more than 2 hours from me) and I know I haven't seen everything they have.
Here's another great store in NC that I would favor over Archiver's. The staff of Enchanted Cottage is so helpful and I could browse for hours but that is not always possible since it is a 2 hour drive and there is only so much time.
It might be more on your way from Ashville. Check out their website.
I'm really not trying to put down Archiver's since I don't know what your interests are.
Check out Artists' Oasis in Apex (right to the west of Raleigh). They have rubber stamps, scrapbook papers, paints, inks, collage and ephemera.... well, you get the idea ;) That's why its called Artists' Oasis. The shop owner, Renee', is an absolute sweetheart!
I'm looking forward to seeing what the Handcraft House has now. I always make a point to stop in there when I head to my brother's house near Roanoke.
DH has told me we can probably fit in one or two stops on the leg of the trip from Asheville to Raleigh. And Apex is not far from Cary where my stepson and his wife live. This is going to be a great trip. I'll have to program all these addresses into the GPS so we don't forget them.

If I was going to go for one or the other I would choose Enchanted Cottage over Artist's Oasis. Don't get me wrong but Artist's Oasis is nice but so much smaller than Enchanted Cottage. Since you would probably be visiting Cary again you could always do a stop at Artist's Oasis then.
this is about 30 minutes from Asheville... Located in Pisgah Forest just outside of Brevard! A GREAT store and the folks are so nice there too!
Stamps and inks are a growing part of her business now!

I live in Raleigh, and if I had to pick only one store I'd pick Enchanted Cottage. It is the best stamping store I've ever been too. They have a huge selection of stamps and supplies. It will also be on the way if you're travelling to Asheville, as it's not far from I-40.

I second this...my friend who lives in Hendersonville practically lives there!

I did see this one when I did some google searches. We're actually going down there to scout out the area. We want to move out of the Phila metropolitan area. We really liked Asheville when we visited there a few years ago. We're going to be looking around in the Hendersonville area too.

I agree with you on that. We always stop on the way to my brother's house. At one point DH wanted to travel down Rt 81 to Roanoke rather than Rt 29. I vetoed that! He doesn't have to follow me around in the stamp room there - he can look at the other things they have. He makes me hurry too much when he follows me around.
Where are you in VA? Are you near the Handcraft House? :-D

I also recommend the Enchanted Cottage -- I drove down from VA on my way somewhere else -- and only had one hour to shop -- but it was stamper's heaven -- there were so many stamps -- I filled a basket! Can't wait to travel down there again!

I go there every summer and love to stop in an browse! When I went a month ago they had a great table loaded down with clearance items!
I also love going to the Enchanted Cottage...it is a must see and the best stamping/scrapbooking store I have ever seen!!! If you had to pick a must see, Enchanted Cottage should be on it. You definitely won't regret it.

This is good to know; I live up in the mountains about 45 min from her store and don't frequent it that much because it's primarily scrapbooking. No doubt I'll have to swing by there again on my next descent from the mountains.
It may be too far out of your way this trip, but Stamps by Eleanor and More in Piedmont SC (75 miles due south of Asheville) is wonderfvul. Here's her web site: http://www.stampsandmorebyeleanor.com/
another place to consider: A Stamp Artist Place. It's in Swananoa NC, just east of Asheville, about 5 minutes at the most off of I-40. They have a website. I've been there twice, and the owner is very warm and welcoming.

too bad you are not coming to Lancaster, PA cause we have some really great Mennonite and Amish stamp shops. My gf picked up a scor-pal for $26.95 the other day at one! Cyndi
I'm back from vacation and I did my part for the economy while I was away. I started with the Handcraft House which has been one of my favorite places for many years. I was just blown away when I went in - it's all stamping/scrapping now. I bought some great paper and a few other things. The next stop was Sandy's Scrapbook Station near Asheville. Another wonderful place. I could have spent hours there, but DH was with me, so I was a little mindful of the time. Again, I made some great purchases. On our way from Asheville to Raleigh, we made a little detour to the Enchanted Cottage - by far my favorite place! I have never seen so many stamps and so much paper in one store in my entire life. My jaw just dropped to the floor when I walked in. My DH walked around the store once and then went out to sit on one of the rockers on the porch. When I was finally finished (after not even seeing everything), he was out there talking to some other poor husband. My last stop was in Raleigh at Archivers. Loved it too. I bought more paper and some stamps and embellies. All in all it was a great trip.
So thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who made suggestions. I appreciate the time you took to share the locations of these great stores.

Hi! Right outside of Asheville in a little town called Brevard there is an awesome scrapbooking and stamping store.
The owner is great and it is a jam packed full store! You will love it! It is called Sandys Scrapbook.
