Stamp just isn't "right"

I'm so frustrated. I have a verse stamp (non SU) and it is driving me crazy.

It just won't stamp right. I have tried everything. Medium pressure, hard pressure, pressing down in different spots etc.

Either the right side of the verse is too light or the bottom of the verse smears.

It's not me, I've stamped it about 30 times today and it ONLY CAME OUT RIGHT TWICE!

It's a wood mount, will it help if I unmount it????

Does anyone have a solution for me before I throw it in the trash?

I had a Santa stamp (non-SU) that did that...I finally unmounted it and re-mounted on another block, (or could use acrylic block...didnt have them then) and it worked better. Come to find out the original wood block was warped...hope that helps!

If it is a large background type stamp, try inking it and turning it over (ink side up), laying your paper on top of it, and either using a brayer over the paper or gently pressing all areas of the paper with your hand. With large stamps I find I do better if I stamp it while I'm standing up, gets more even pressure. Hope that helps a little!

That would be my advise too.

Have you tried standing up when you stamp it? I know that sounds like weird advice, but I had a verse stamp that just wouldn't stamp right when I was sitting down. Maybe standing up lets you stamp with even pressure??

Is it undercut?? Meaning that the rubber sticks out farther than the foam, if it is cut at an angle, this can happen.

I purchased a retired set from someone a while back and it was under cut really badly, so much so that I had to remount the rubber images onto new pieces of foam so it would stamp right.

HTH!

I have a stamp like that and someone recommended stamping with the paper on a mousepad and it worked great. You might try that. Good luck!

Thanks for all your replies.

The stamp isn't that big, (and I need to use my positioner for the project I'm working on), so I can't stamp it upside down like some have suggested.

I've tried standing up, doesn't help.

I"m thinking that I'll un-mount it, maybe the block IS warped, also I think I'll re-cushion it in case it's under-cut. (doesn't look like it is, though)

This has never happened to me before. Again, thanks for helping.

I would peel it off the block and remove the foam and just use it with sticky tape and an acrylic block...that way you don't have to worry about what is under it etc...it is frustrating when things like that happen considering how much we spend on all this stuff - we want it to work right!!!
good luck!

Also; try placing a piece of "fun foam" underneath your paper... this will give it some extra cushion. Good luck!

you might consider "rolling" the image gently(front to back). I have a few that stamp better that way.

Don't throw it in the trash. Call the company. Maybe it's defective and they could send you a new one.

Gina is right. If it's defective and you un-mount it they won't honor your return. I've had this happen before.

I have one that is hard to use, too - the font is very fine (scrolly and narrow), and I really have to work to get a good impression. I now always make sure that I have a piece of fun foam under the cardstock, stand and stamp directly down, then let it sit for a second just to make sure all the ink has transferred. Oh, and I never stamp directly on a card, either - always a scrap piece that I'll trim and adhere to the finished project. HTH!!

I use a piece of foam under my paper. I bet the mouse pad would work too!

If there is fine detail, use a piece of felt under it as your stamping pad. Use the good oldfashioned soft , but substantial felt not that junk kind that you often find at craft stores.

Thank you all for the idea of using craft foam! I have tons of the stuff laying around and have been needing a 'softer' surface to put under my stamping surface.
