I just lightly drew the outline of the slit on my paper using a ruler and then used the paper snips to cut it out. That seemed much easier for me then using the paper cutter.

I use my paper cutter unless I'm doing a curve. Curves I free and and wing it with scissors.

I also noticed that I have to make it a wee bit bigger than 1/4 inch - my 1/4 they would NOT spin at all!

How about an exacto/craft knife?

I made a template. I got tired of measuring. Mine had to be 1/2". I just mark on the edge of the card and use my sliding cutter. I then snip the ends out with my scissors.

I used an exacto knife. I also made a template afterwards so when I did this as a make-n-take the outline was already there, the guest just had to cut out the 'box'.
