Default sewing without a machine?

is it possible to stitch without a machine? I do not have a sewing machine, and just read a thread that the mini ones are not all that great. I want to try this technique, but i cant even draw a straight line with a guide, never mind sew a line!! lol

I like to sew on cards but agree that the mini machines are a total waste of money. I also can't imagine pulling out the big machine.

When I sew on cards I'll use a ruler and make little pencil dots everywhere a stitch will go in or out. Then I use my paper piercer to make a hole at each dot. Then I sew. I've found that if I just try to pierce the paper with the needle it gets messed up and nothing is straight. It also helps to put a little piece of cork board behind the paper when piercing. You don't have to push very hard and can control the size of your hole depending on whether you are sewing with thread, yard, or twine.

I hope this helps. The money you save on a useless mini machine could be used toward the other supplies you may need.

Thanks Darla I'll have to try that... I had a small paper machine, hated it, so I returned it. I have a sewing machine, I just can't sew a straight line with it

You might try the Stamper's Tool Kit from SU. It has a GREAT template and tool for doing paper piercing. Once you pierce the holes using the guide, you'll have a great straight line, and then you can use the enclosed needles to sew the paper.

PM me if you have any questions!

I don't remember who posted this idea it was ..maybe a few weeks ago...?but I read it here somewhere & have since tried this technique for FAUX stitching on paper. Use this little perforating tool (or some other brand)

http://www.eksuccess.com/products_de...978e762ca8d955

Using the perforating tool, roll it gently on your ink pad & then roll it over the paper. Little stitches will show up!

Or you can use your pen and make it just look like you stitched. I just zigzaged my pen along the edges, it went surprisingly fast, the corners were done with needle & thread.
