I am curious about what other people do. I am trying to use more ribbon on my projects. I have several SU grosgrain and double-stitched ribbons which I love. My other main source for buying ribbon is the big "M". I really like the sheer polka-dot ones by Dashes, Dots & Checks but they are almost too thin. Are the May Arts sheer, polka-dot ribbons the same quality/thickness? I have been debating about buying some of the May Arts ribbons on-line but don't know what colors to buy. I have bought some American Crafts ribbon at Mikes but they only had one display (of the single pack ribbons) and that is almost cleared out. I really like the quality and colors of AC ribbon.
So what do you do? How do you pick your color and style of ribbon? Do you carry around pieces of cardstock to color match with? I have been thinking of doing this! I hate buying ribbon and then getting home and finding it doesn't match my SU paper.
Also, when buying online how do you decide what to buy. I find it very hard to buy something that I can't see or feel so I end up not buying it. What are your favorites - maybe that will help some of us ribbon newbies in our choices. It always helps to hear what others are doing and what has worked for them. It makes hitting the "buy now" buttom much easier if I know someone else has used it and loved it and it matches SU paper!
I buy mostly May Arts...the quality is amazing. You can usually make a pretty good guess, but it helps that I have joined some of Jody's ribbon shares...I think she has one going on now. Click Here for info That way you know what colors to get later.

That's what I was going to suggest too. Jody's ribbon shares are the BOMB
I love A Muse's sheer ribbon. It's sparkly with a little bit of color on the edges. It comes in 8 colors that are designed to match their notecards, but the french roast (dk. brown) and black are versatile colors and work with any number of cardstock colors.
I have seen the ribbon share but am scared I will end up with a whole pile of beautiful ribbon that doesn't match the SU cardstock. Do you worry about that or do you just buy it and hope you will be able to use it. It is very beautful ribbon - especially the metallic iridescent and the satin with the grosgrain edge.
I have a hard time using something that I don't know matches. If you tell me it looks good together then I will use it but on my own I second guess myself. I am terrible with color which is why I need help.

Always happy to enable, er, I mean, help.
Seriously, you couldn't get all these colors of ribbon for the price anywhere else! And it helps me to figure out what to order when I see what disappears the fastest. So in reality, you're just doing research. ;)

Why oh why did I click your link. Okay here I go buying more ribbon.

That's why Jody rocks...she picks colors that coordinate with SU colors. They don't always match exactly, but they always "go"...KWIM?

The beauty of most ribbon is that it almost always matches (or at least coordinates) with some SU cardstock. And really - if you have a fabulous ribbon, no one minds if it isn't a perfect match - at least in my opinion.
Having said that of course - I've never done one of Jodi's ribbon shares. I did do SU ribbon share that one of my demos put together. Basically everyone bought either a full or 1/2 share. I think there were 12 slots, so a full share got you 2 yards and a 1/2 share got you 1 yard. Check with your local demo and see if this is something they might consider doing.
I love the SU ribbons and am addicted to those. I know that when I buy them they are definitely going to match my cardstock since they are both from the same catalog. The ribbon is a really nice quality so it is easy to tie and to work with.
Someone else was using ribbon at a crop that I went to and she asked me to tie her a bow with her ribbon. It was very stiff and crinkly and was hard to make a nice bow since it wanted to wrinkle and crease because of it's stiffness.
I like nice ribbon that is easy to work with because I use it all the time. I tie it in bows, double knots, adhere it to my project directly on my cardstock or just add little tails sticking out from behind my project layers. It is my favorite accessory since it is so versatile and a little goes a long way!
Well, I guess it's back to Jodi's blog to check out that ribbon AGAIN! Now I have to decide what kind to get. I really really hate deciding things. The sparkly one or the Satin one or the sheer twinkle one! Oh the decisions I have to make.
I love the May Arts Ribbon. The sheer polka dots are probably my favorite. I still have some left from a ribbon share that i offered. please feel free to check out my blog!
My favs are SU of course. But I have been very happy with ribbon I have bought online(Ribbons and Bows oh my, Jacksonbelle, there is another one I cant think of the name right now). I think Michaels has some nice ribbon, I think alot of it is half off this week.
