Default Refreshing a Dry Dye Ink Pad?

I have a couple of dye ink pads that I had only used a couple of times, over a year ago, and found that they have gotten dry (even though they were tightly covered). I can get a very faint image using them, but am wondering if anyone has had success trying to refresh dry dye pads? I don't have a reinker for these, or I would do that first. I also do not have an Ink refresher . I gave the pad a spritz with water but doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm wondering if adding a little glycerine might help but don't want to end up ruining the pad even more. Any idea

I think that when it dries out, it dries out. I haven't heard of anything that brings a pad back to life.

That's what I'm afraid of. However, these are not completely dry...as I can get a faint image from them, so was hoping I could limp along a little bit more.

Ranger makes a spray called Perfect Ink Refresher, AC Moore or Mike's carry it - you spray the ink pad and it does work. Your best bet is to get the reinker though, what brand ink pad is it?

I've used the ink refresher and it works pretty good. It says that its for dye based inks, but I used it on some Catseye pigment inks and it worked too. If you can get a re-inker for it, that would be your best bet, but if you can't get a re-inker, then the refresher is probably your only option.

I haven't seen the Ink Refresher at my local Michaels Crafts, but I'll check again. It's a Hero Arts stamp pad and I might do an online search to see if I can find the re-inker as well.

Adding glycerine to a dye inkpad turns it into an embossing pad, as
that is the main ingredient in embossing pads.

I also have used with great success the Ranger Ink Refresher. It is only a few dollars and can be used on dye ink pads and waterbased markers.

Default Ink refresher

Just checked out Joann's online, search by brand name, Ranger and see that Refresher is available on line only on sale for 4.19 as of 4/1/2013. I have used the blender refill to refresh ink pads and markers as well. Originally bought Ink Refresher at michaels but haven't seen it in the store lately.

Blender refill - 2 tsp glycerine
4 tsp distiller water
1/4 tsp rubbing alcohol

I just recently saw that some people are making their own blender pen refill and I tried it myself in a Stampin Up blender pen that had completely dried out. it worked wonderfully and I'll try it on the dry ink pads. Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I am also happy to hear that the Ranger Ink Refresher is more available online because I don't want to have to pay full shipping for just one bottle of the stuff!

Funny story, had a card buffet last night down at a local restaurant and one of the ink pads got heavy use and got dry. I didn't have the reinker with me and because I was desperate I sprayed it sparingly with Stampin' Mist. Worked and gave the true color too. I would not recommend this as a way to refresh your ink pads but we needed that color and since it was my pad I was willing to give it a go.

I just read the back of my Ranger Inksentials Ink Refresher it states that it is for BOTH water based dye ink and markers as well as pigment inks and rainbow pads.

The new replacement product is: TIM HOLTZ DISTRESS REFRESHER
