Good morning,
I know I have seen this question before but can't find it.
I bought a new set of clear stamps and one of them has a spot that just won't stamp. I have used the eraser method and I have washed it.
What else can I do?
Thank you.
what kind of ink are you using? (sometimes pigments get into the nooks and crannies better than dye inks & another thought is because, they stay wet a little longer I have better luck with pigments on clear stamps) my go to ink is versafine. so, sometimes I have in the past put a stamp with the part I you put the ink on, facing up on the table and placing the paper on top of the inked stamp and then carefully walking my fingers across it. ( this works when part of the foam behind the rubber has sunk) but, it also works well with really big background stamps too.
now a days I stamp on a glass mat so, stamps stick right to that and you have less movement.
(its worth a try yes?)
When you say “a spot” do you mean a clearly defined area and it’s always the same bit that doesn’t stamp? It’s possible you’ve got a defective stamp, occasionally the polymer doesn’t form properly right across the surface and you get a sort of pockmark that will never make contact with the paper. I can only remember one occasion it’s happened to me - the company replaced the stamp.
Good luck with solving the problem, one way or another!
Maybe it needs to be roughed up a bit. I do this to all solid-image clear stamps:
ink stamp as usual
stamp on scratch paper then rub it around a bit on the paper like you are erasing something
repeat then ink and stamp and you should notice a difference

I bought this stamp from FB Marketplace, it has no identifying information (brand etc.). It is a thick line and the ink will not adhere to this spot.
I only have Stampin Up inks. As I'm typing this I wonder if I used a marker on the spot if that would work. I'll have to try that.
Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.
if its a dye water based marker make sure you huff on it after you ink it with the marker as the moisture should help keep it from drying on you before you can stamp it ?
You might try laying the stamp down 'face up' and ink it (SU inks are not very good, on my list) so try pigment, then press the paper down on it using your fingers especially around the 'bad' area. Some stamps are just made poorly with 'dips' like you are experiencing.
If there’s a blank spot (this happens sometimes, even with good old Stampin up rubber stamps) what I do is use my Stampin up blender pen, dab it on the stamp pad I used to stamp the image, and color over the blank spot, works very well.
I've had this happen with some new stamps in the past. The stamps were defective and the company I bought them from replaced them. There is nothing you can do to fix it. I hope the person who sold it to you didn't do so knowing it was defective.
I have had this on occasion, it's a flaw. I've also had missing stamps from a stamp set. That's why I now stamp them out when I get them. Contact the company you bought it from. Honey Bee Stamps is one company that has amazing customer service and replaced one of my stamp sets quickly.
(1) Try scuffing the stamp with fine grit sand paper to give it a little more "grab"
(2) Try putting a foam sheet under the stamp before stamping. I use the foam sheet that comes with Close To My Heart stamp sets, but you could try a sheet of craft foam as well. This is the number one best fix for this problem. If this doesn't do it, then nothing will and your only other option is to fill it in after the fact as you have already done.
Private message me if you'd like me to send you a foam sheet.

Hi. I realize I'm going off topic here, but I don't want to lose the thread of your comment regarding SU inks. I'm interested in the why behind your comment. I'm interested in opinions on inks.
I used Color Box pigment inks until they went out of business. I used them for 10 years before they started drying out. I bought a set of SU inks and 2 years later they have dried considerably. (I can, and do, use reinkers, but still am surprised and unhappy.) Is this a pigment ink versus dye ink thing?
I don’t have any experience of SU! inks so there may be something specific there but I don’t think it’s a pigment vs dye issue in general. I have Adirondack dye pads that are at least a dozen years old. I have reinked the Espresso one because I use it a lot but the others have not been reinked and they’re still fine.
Two things helped me with these problems….and years ago this issue really turned me away from card making I got so frustrated!
1. I almost always use my Sweet Petunia base…I cannot say how much paper and stress using this has saved me! It’s a card making miracle!
2. When I need to stamp quickly and am too lazy to bring out my base…. like when I use my signature stamp that has a handle…I always use the Stampin’Up stamping pad (lots of other brands make these…sort of like using the foam suggestion one commenter mentioned)
This happened to me with a Hero Arts stamp a few years ago. I tried all that was suggested above and finally I emailed the company and mentioned the problem. They replaced my stamp set within a few days and I was able to keep the original set as well. Only the one stamp had the defect.
It worked! I used the foam from another stamp set and it worked.
Thank you so much to everyone who responded. You are all so generous and kind.
I don't get to spend a lot of time crafting so it took a while for me to test out the suggestions.
I will keep all these suggestions in case I run across this problem again.
Happy Halloween!
