Default price of watercolor crayons

For those of us who are "por" ;) , have you seen the watercolor crayons demonstrated and think to yourself "the heck with food this week, I gotta get those crayons!" ??? I mean, $60.00 is A LOT for crayons! Are they truly that wonderful?

I too was hesitant on buying them because of the cost. My demonstrator, has used them in the last two parties I've been to -- and at the last party, we each got to use them to make our own card. I have just bit the bullet and ordered them. They should be here in about a week. I can hardly wait!! I think they're terrific and that I'll be able to get a ton of use out of them.

i'm wondering the same thing! But I do get to see them demonstrated at our SCS Woodstock gathering this Saturday! Hopefully that will help me make my decision!

I bought Silver, Bronze and gold ala carte from Dick BLick, and I love them... then I ordered the water color crayons from SU...and I LOVE them... they actually have more saturated pigments....

They are worth the price, they are fun to work with.

As far as comparing prices, SU's price is a very good one. Not to mention the fact that the colors are specially made for SU to coordinate with all of their 48 colors. And, it's the cheapest way (aside from chalks, I mean) to get all 48 colors...

I hosted a ws last weekend just so I could get the crayons. I always held off on buying the markers because I don't like coloring with them. My demo showed us several different ways to use them. I think I will love them, and I think they'll last forever!

I got my WC recently and played a little with them. I like them a lot. I think it's a great way to get 48 colors and just bring your aquapainter if you need to go places. You don't need to haul all 48 inkpads at once when you travel! If you truly like to color, then you really have to get it. There are more than 1 way to use them.

I too have been holding off making the purchase as I am really unsure of how to use them and what the benefits are. Being in Canada, the cost for us is $90. So I really need to be sold on these before I buy them. How do they differ from the pencils?

If you think about the price for each, it's only $1.25... Much less than one marker. Yeah it's a large investment up front, so set aside $$$ for the next few months then buy them. I'd love to see SU sell them atleast by color groups. That would be a little more justifiable. I am going to save up and get myself some, as fun as they are, but I will refrain until sell-a-bration where that investment will be more beneficial.

From my experience, they crayons are creamier and more spreadable. The pencils are a little harder and leave harsher lines. The crayons can be colored directly onto the stamp, the pencils can't. You can spritz the paper then stamp on it, or spritz the stamp then stamp on the paper... Also, the crayons layer better, so you are able to get deeper shades of the color. Now I don't know if I want to wait until Jan....

Thanks for the reply. Colouring the stamp sounds pretty neat. I am now going to be on the hunt to find someone who has them so I may try them out. I HAVE to have them before Christmas. Thx again!

Ask your demo if she would be willing to run a WCC Club, like a marker club. She may have other customers who are thinking the same thing "I want them but can't afford $60 all at once". The worst she can tell you is no. And if you can afford it, maybe you can take up 2 spots in the club & have your crayons in 2 months instead of 4.

If you are a SU demonstrator then you can get them via "Great Rewards". They just revamped the GR and the watercolor crayons are on there. One of the reasons why I signed up was to get the stuff I can't bring myself to buy for free or a discount.

I have them and think they are a very cost effective way to get all the colors (well, except black, grey and white, which I hope they make soon). I really like them a lot, except I don't like using the aquapainter with them. Too much water. If you are going for the intense color look, I recommend a small paint brush with a small amount of water. Just a thought. Experimenting with them is fun!

Default Prismacolors vs. Watercolors

A while back the big rage was to have the prismacolors, now I read about this. It's hard to decide as much as they each cost which is better. I don't have an opportunity to see them demonstrated.

I was hoping to find some off-brand ones at Michaels w/ my 40% off coupon before I bought the SU ones, but I am a demo and get 20% off... Thanks for letting us know they are in Great Rewards, I should check that out and see how many more points I need to get them for free!

I belong to a Stamp Club, and was lucky enough to be hostess in July - where everyone was eager to buy lots of things from the new catalog. I used those $$$ earned to order the crayons.

I understand they are ALL pigment - which adds to their value and their cost.

But a great point that is it one way to get all the colors including all the NEW ones.

I am not a demo, so I am holding out to buy them during sell-a-bration in January. That way I will at least get a free stamp set with them and that will make them a great deal!

I wish they sold them in color groups like the markers. What happens when you run out of colors? Do you have to order the entire set again?

The way they are used, I just can't imagine how much stamping you'd have to do to use them up. Others have posted saying that they've had other brands for years, use them a lot, and they still don't show any significant signs of use.

I've used the watercolor crayons and can say this-- "Yes, they are nice. Yes, they are fun. No, they are not $60 worth of fun. If I come across a lot of extra cash or boocoo hostess dollars, I will buy them; otherwise, I can definitely live without them.

they are so cool, we used them at a scrap camp recently. I am in a WCC club, so it is only 1/4 of the cost for 4 months. My demo drew names to see who get theirs when, I get mine the 2nd month! Yeah!! When I did the marker club I was the last to get mine. They are really neat, you can color on the stamp, then spritz your paper and stamp on the damp paper, you can use them like the pencils, and as someone else said, you don't get the harsh lines when you use them. And I was really impressed, I thought coloring on the stamps (you have to use a little pressure) would break them, not a bit! And from what I can tell they will last forever. The icing on the cake is the 48 color selection. The pencils can be somewhat off with color choices.

What a great idea. I'm hosting a WS next month and was contemplating the WCC. Now I know what to get at the WS. I've used the crayons and they are wonderful. My demo says they also work great on tiles.

So you pay each month, but you don't a color group each month? You get everything at once - when its your month? That would suck for the 4th person

We are doing a WCC and each month we pay 1/4 of the price and each month we get a color group until we all have all 4 groups. I don't think I could wait to use mine if I was 2nd 3rd or 4th

Even I, lover of the WCC, couldn't have $60 worth of fun at one sitting! LOL Seriously, as someone who suffered from fear of coloring for a long time (stampin-wise), these are one more item in my toolkit that help make me a better "artist."

Actually its the Watercolor Pencils and 2 Aquapainters that are in Great Rewards for Demos. You can earn enough points to get a $100 Visa card, then use that to buy the WCC.
Either way, they are DEFINITELY worth it! The fact that they match our 48 colors, they will last nearly forever, they work and blend SO easily, many different ways to use them. Yah it was a chunk-o-change, but I dont regret one iota buying them!!
