reading glasses
those chains to keep your reading glasses around your neck

Are you looking for funny or serious?

We went for the nostalgia candy, asking Gramma what she remembered or missed, then searched in town and on line for something to scatter on the table. The neat thing was the converstations with her siblings and peers at the retirement condo as they reminisced.

There is a website I think it is called nostalgic candy.com that has all the different candies from decades ago. You can want to look online for trends for the decade she grew up in.

Little bottles full of M&Ms or other candy that could look like pills.

Magnetic jewelry to hold your eyeglasses: http://funpinswork.com/ (You could make them if you wanted to.)

Tissue holders--surely you could stamp something for a cover?!

Greeting cards are always good. That would save a lot of $$ for an elderly person on a budget.

Music CD of "remember when" music. You could even ask her for songs she remembers and find them on iTunes--make a custom CD for your guests. If you wanted to get fancy, you could get someone to play DJ and do a "this was your life in pop music" type of thing.

A potted plant

Hand lotion

Gourmet Teabags

Picture frame

inexpensive corsage for each one

Subscription to Reminisce Magazine or One mag per person

Make a "newspaper" of things that were popular when she was a child, headlines, etc.

If you want nostalgic candy.. just go to the nearest Cracker Barrel.. a friend of mine asked me not too long ago If I'd ever heard of mallomars.. (I had, but had never tasted one.. ) She's 87 years young.. I brought her one from Cracker Barrell.. she went back and checked out ALL the candy.. and they had so many things she hadn't seen in years, she was thrilled!

pretty pillows.. they like them too..

I didn't notice if she was in a nursing home or not.. but small lap blankets (fleece) go over well.. and are very inexpensive to make if you watch the sales!

Thanks for the great ideas! I love the nostalgic candy. I can stamp some holders for the candy for the party guests. Thanks again!
