This may be a stupid question, but how do you package/present a card with bulky layers and embellishments when it doesn't fit well in a standard envelope. I have read the many suggestions about packaging a bulky card for mailing. However, this card will be hand delivered, so I am looking for cute packaging ideas where there are no worries about the card getting damaged through the mail. It is a standard A2 size, just very bulky. Thanks for any ideas! Pictures would be great if you have them.
Here is an A2 size box from the Resource section that I have made before. It goes together quickly and looks cute, depending on how you embellish it.
When it is done, the sides of the box are 1-1/2" tall, which would be a bit too deep for one card I think, even heavily embellished.
Look at the first pic in the tutorial. It shows scoring on all edges at 1-1/2" which makes the sides. AFTER you score with those measurements, you could then trim 1/2" or a little more off all the edges, which would make the box not as deep. This would not change the actual box measurements, only the depth of the box.
I do something similar to what Bugga has linked, only I use my card size as a starting point.
I add 1 1/2" to the height and width of the card and cut two pieces of cardstock that size. I trim a sliver from two sides of one, for the base, and score 1/2" in along all edges, so the box ends up 1/2" deep, with half an inch extra space inside, so you can wrap the card in tissue or whatever.
Is that envelope box mailable? I bought some of the PTI clear plastic boxes and used them to send Valentine banners and candy to friends. Those boxes were actually too deep, but worked out beautifully. But I recycle everything that I can and I felt guilty using plastic when I might have found an alternative that would be a little more earth friendly. They were so pretty even the woman at the USPO remarked on them.
I wish I could have hand delivered my MIL's birthday card. I have sent it bubble wrapped and now I can only cross my fingers and wait and see what the international postage carriers do to it. At least I can send her a picture of what it should have looked like! Just praying they don't think there is anything valuable in it because of the bump made by the hydranga.
Thank you all for the ideas. I will probably use the envelope box for this card. However, I do like the idea of a glassine bag. Where is a good place to purchase glassine bags?
Online PTI has a selection of glassine bags and then your local scrapbook store might have them too. I've seen them through Paper Mart as well.
Hope that helps

Check out Mish Mash's blog today. She makes lots of super embellished cards and today shows a darling presentation for them. She says after putting them in those cute paper sacks, she mails them in bubble envelopes:

Ellen Hutson has perfect clear boxes to put cards with embellishments. Then I put that clear box in the padded envy from Post office. They all arrive in perfect condition. The only draw back on that is it costs $2.32 to mail. I am keeping the post office in business. !!!
I went to Tuesday Morning and bought several cardboard decorative video tape cases. I put my card in that and then put the tape case in a bubble envelope to mail.
