Needs Ideas for How to use pieces of window screen on cards
We are remodeling our screened in porch and I now have a lot of pieces of brand new window screen (dark in color). which I can cut to any size.
I thought I might try to use some in card and scrapbook page projects. Has anyone used pieces of screen on cards before? Need ideas. Thanks for any suggestions.

I've never done it before (always planned to) but you can use window screen to make a stamped image look like cross stitching. Dreamweaver came out several years ago with a product specifically for that. They may have a tutorial. I think you stamp the image then lay the screen over it to color. In the gallery I remember seeing a few cards with that technique but it's been quite a few years. Seems to me that one was a Santa and another one a flower.

I use bugs on the front of the card, cut a hole or square out of the card and tape the window screen against the hold from the wrong side of the card. Either put a bug on or behind the screen. The sentiment could read "Sorry to bug you" or "Heard you caught a bug" sort of thing. The old idea book from Stampin' Up! had several ideas using screening, one was one of those bug catcher box for kids. Make a box, make cut out, put screen over the holes sort of thing. No pictures, just ideas I've seen.
I've used the window screen on a scrapbook page before. For a card I would suggest layering it on a scrap piece of cardstock and attaching with brads near the corners a couple of squares in from each edge for an extra textured layer. Or you might try wrapping a piece of cardstock and using double stick tape to hold it in place on the reverse side. How about using it in place of ribbon.
These are great ideas. I need to look through all my old Stampin Up catalogs for the card ideas. The Dreamweavers card looks easy enough. I will have to give all these a try. Thanks everyone.

A friend gave me a card using window screen. She cut the whole front of the card (heavy cs) into a large window with panes. She also made an identical window with panes and sandwiched the screen between the two. I think she most likely did this to cover the edges of screen to prevent skin cuts & jabs. When the card was flipped open there were stamped flies which could also be seen through the screen when it was closed. The sentiment was 'Time flies when your having fun, hope you're having fun'. It was very cute.

i just did this as my make & take 2 weeks ago. lots of fun.
how about using some w/ faux wood and make a screen door?
...it seems perhaps your 'screen' is in fact a mesh product? Can't be sure but I thought I could add some pics of cards with screen paper-cut grids over them. The grids had been laser off-cuts sent to me by a friend and I simply cut out some parts of the overall grid pattern that weren't needed.
frame the screen piece with cardstock, or other things such as modge podge--it would be smaller but probably look pretty cool. Using little frames works too! I've used rusty screens for vintage looks. I use clear glue dots and tie twine to attach to cover the glue dots. Framing the screen looks pretty good too. Fun to use!
I have used something similar in my Wizard to dry emboss. I misted the cardstock lightly with water and ran it thru the Wizard using the embossing sandwich. It looked really cool!!
I punched some large flower shapes out of screen and then added some acrylic paint to them for a little color but you could just use decorative brads in the centers.
Not a card , but I have a craft book where they took brown paper sacks (lunch size ) or medium size gift bags , and stamped bugs on them. Then they cut square out of the side , and from the inside taped screen over the sqaure. I think they made ribbon tie for the top. Bug catcher for kids. I still have the book if you want a picture.
How about running it through the BigShot using the Top Note die?? Great for masculine cards, I just did this using cork, old book print, old sheet music and maps for my Father's Day cards.
You could also use it in the BigShot with any flower dies too. The "go green" theme is really hot right now....re-use, recycle right?? I am having a BigSHot "Go Green" class in July to showcase all the material you can cut with it. Then make some cards too. Good luck and have fun with it!!
I am thinking (and forgive me if someone above already mentioned this, I just read quickly) that you could use it like magic mesh as a strip of embellishment. For added color you could spray paint it or maybe acrylic paint? Maybe sharpies even or embossing powder to color. Those last few are just guesses, I only know of spray paint that would color it for sure.
I like the ideas of the bugs I read about above also.
Oh my gosh, everyone has such great ideas. I never thought to run it through my BigShot. Just tried it with the Top Note die. So easy. I must try with flowers and add some color, brads etc. I found a large window stamp from All Night Media I forgot I had which I plan to cut out window portion and put in piece of screen. May try to put a dog's face behind screen looking out.

I love the way this looks!!! Thank you for linking it! Can't wait to find some screen and start stamping. I am assuming that the screen is the plastic kind as it is more malleable and forgiving.

If I recall correctly, you put the screen over your design, but raised up a little (so you could see the design, but the screen wasn't making contact with it), then put acrylic paint in the 'hole' with a toothpick. Time-consuming, but some of them were pretty cool. On a card-size scale it wouldn't take quite as long, I'm thinkin'... I've got some scraps around here somewhere - maybe I should try and report back...?

I saw a sample in a stamp store that used window screen on a Christmas card. The card was stamped with a snowy scenes with trees, sky ,etc. The window screen had tiny dots of Liquid Applique puffed up to look like snow stuck on it. The screen was attached somehow over the scene (sorry, couldn't touch card to see how it was attached). Very cute.

I found this neat window screen jewelry project and am thinking of just making singles of the stars for Christmas cards. I thought I could put it together somehow so that the star could be removed by the recipient and used as a tree ornament. It's the second photo down:

This isn't a card project. It's more an RRR idea. I don't know how much screen you have but if you have too much for cards, here is an idea. I had plastic black screen mesh left over and made an earring holder from it. I had old baseboards and created a frame with them. I tacked the screen on the back. I then hung it on the wall in my bedroom. Serves as art and and jewelry display/storage. I make my own jewelry and need lots of storage. The bonus is that I see my jewelry and wear it more often.

ok, now I want window screen. Home Depot has whole 'nuther meaning to me now! My husband is going to be sick when I tell him I want to go with him....it was 'man time' for him! No more!!
Love the card using the screen instead of the ribbon. What a great idea. We have finally finished all the screen on the porch so now I need to find some time to try out some of these wonderful ideas.
