Need help with SU Elegant Line EB folder
Hi all -- I have the SU sizzix Elegant Lines embossing folder -- I am having problems when using whisper white -- it creates wringles in on the card and also makes the embossed image look like it is ripping the card. I am only running it through my cuttlebug once so I am not sure what the problem is. Has anyone else had the same prob???? I was wanting to use white as the card is for a wedding. Any advise would be wonderful. Thanks Kim
I've had this happen too in my Big Shot. I suspect it's because the sandwich is too thick somehow. I have no idea how to fix it and am interested in a solution.
I had the same problem and these layers work for me (not conventional, but it works)
Multiplatform with no tabs (just the bottom plate)
clear standard cutting plate
Embossing folder
Texture Plate (doesn't make any difference what the pattern is, but the plate is the right thickness) - works everytime for me
If you don't have a texture plate then use a couple layers of chipboard. How many layers of chipboard depends on the thickness.
I just used my Elegant Lines embossing folder yesterday in my Wizard and had the same thing happen -- the embossing actually cuts/tears the paper. I even tried it with a heavy cover weight paper and had the same thing happen. I have never had this happen with any other embossing folder, and I have quite a collection! I'll be watching this thread to see how many others are having a problem with this folder.
my su rep replaced mine and it still does it. SU doesn't seem to be interested in correcting it i don't think. To much money to spend to not be able to use it
I used my Elegant lines for the first time this week, and had the same problem. I have a cuttlebug. I'll be watching this thread to see if anyone has some suggestions.

I have a ton of folders and this is the only one that rips the paper and my sandwich really does work. You just need to experiment with what you can use for a top layer either a texture plate or chipboard. Really, try it as I get perfect impressions everytime.

Oh, no...I love that folder and it's on my order that's going in Tuesday! I'll still order. I hope I can get it to work!
Has anyone called SU? I became a hobby demo in Dec. with their big discount for joining and I may just give them a jingle on their direct line for demos and ask wtheck?

I was going to put this on my order during Sale-a-bration. Now I'm having second thoughts. Well actually - it's completely off the list. The folder is "nice" but not if it seems to have the problems that you're all finding, and trying to jury-rig a sandwich fit isn't worth it to me. Thanks for the heads up and the saved $$.

Kim, it really does sound like the sandwich is too much for this particular embossing folder as others have mentioned. Since you have the cuttlebug, it is very easy to play around with the sandwich. To be quite honest, the machines can differ over time so I could not offer a specific sandwich for you. Don't be afraid to experiment. The only rule you have to keep in mind is don't over force your Bug. If a sandwich immediately resists going through, back off! I often use thin pieces of cardboard/chipboard as my shims. You could also use card stock but that will require more layers.
I recommend removing one of the B plates and start layering with shims. Once you get something you like, you could write down with a permanent marker on that embossing folder for future use.

Thank you all so much -- I am pleased to know it is not just me that has been having prob's. I also have a HUGE range of EB folders and this is the only one I have issues with and I love this EB folder. I will try all the suggestions that have been made and will come back with what I can get to work. I did end up last night using a much heavier CS and it worked in that is did not wrinkle the CS but it still looked a little like the patterned section could rip. So I am going to try with the chipboard etc and see how I go. Again thank you all for responding it is so nice to know that people are happy to help others. xxxxx
For almost all of my embossing folders in the Big Shot, I have to remove the extra tabs from the multipurpose platform, then they are perfect. A slightly smaller sandwich should do it.
Mine will be here on Monday. I will just play around with the sandwich I guess. I really do think it is very elegant looking. I just got the Northern Flurry one the other day. It was a bit deep, but didn't cut. Now I know to just play around with the sandwich. Thanks all!
Thank you CrazyKim for starting this thread! I thought it was just me and I was starting to get that "I can't do this" feeling. I was ready to throw the whole thing away.
StampHappy, I'll give your suggestion a try next time I get my Big Shot out.

Oh no! Don't take it off you're list, it's so amazing and is true to it's name.. "elegant". I made 30 small favors out of vvanilla for my swap at the spring Regionals and they came out fantastic! The key is NOT to make the sandwich too tight. I used the cuttlebug and I put the white plate down first then EF then the thin clear plate on top and a thin chip board shim. It was just great. You have to make a sandwich anyway, so just make a thinner sandwich.
I would recommend that you get the folder, it's so beautiful and different, just remember to "smush" it lightly! A little pressure goes a long way on this one.
Ooops I meant to leave a link to my favors but I evidentally never uploaded the pics to SCS. Here is a card I did with whisper white and this embossing folder:
