Well, if you wanted it very "perfect-ish" you could make a mask where you don't want your edge stamp to wander into the center?
if not you put a scrap paper under the panel you want to stamp and stamp off the edge. of the main panel eyeballing it. ( which probably is easier with a stamp on a clear block rather than a wood one but, it can be done if you "know" your stamps and where they are under the wood)
( I stamp standing up and bend my knees to look under wood stamps usually)
Oh - I quite often do that with leaves or flourish stamps. I don't even bother with masking the centre. I just put the image panel on a large piece of scrap paper and stamp part of the image on the panel all the way round, randomly.
I'm with Sabrina - leaves or flourishes work great like this. Just grab whatever looks like it might work if you already have those things in your stash. If you don't, then just look around for a flourish you like (there are so many different ones out there you're bound to find something that suits!) to get you started. It's a great, simple way to "frame" an image in a way that's not regimented.
For flourishes I have a really old clear set from Autumn Leaves. I just wanted to say that snowflakes work really well used like this for Christmas cards.For leaves - sometimes I want bigger leaves but for an overall leafy frame I will often use the tree from SU's Thoughts and Prayers.
You can always practice with whatever you have on xerox paper cut to card size just to get the hang of it. Might be the only time it will be ok to have cut off heads LOL.
You would be surprised at how many stamps you already have that would look good with only part of it showing. Top edge, bottom, sides or corners can be used. It all in how you hold and stamp onto paper. I suggest stamping some images onto scrap paper and then us another scrap to hold over various parts of stamped image to see how the uncovered areas look. The same stamp can give several "looks" when used different ways. Then practice stamping only the edges onto scrap paper.
susieaustralia (//www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=299565) does incredible borders with all kinds of flowers, stems. etc. You'll get great ideas from her gallery.
So I went to have a look at my stamps and I found some that I think would work for this. I also found on Selvie's blog where she stated what stamp she uses.
So I bought Stampelglede Vintage Garden. I can't wait to get it. This is the most expensive stamp I have every purchased. lol I wanted Postcard from Paris, but it was out of stock :-(.
