Okay, this may be a Silly Question, but I had a new customer mention to me that they use "photo paper" for some techniques that I use Glossy Cardstock for. Has anyone else ever done this? Am I the last person at SCS to find out that Stampin Up just calls Photo Paper "Glossy C/S" or are they truly different? I am curious because I have purchased photo paper for our computer, and it seems like it is a LOT more expensive than our Cardstock. It also seems like photo paper would have to have a different coating on it, but I really don't know. Anyone have any info that would help?
Thanks in advance,
Debbi

You can use photo paper for a lot of the direct-to-paper techniques, but it DOES NOT heat emboss! Hee hee...I tried it once and melted the paper into bubbles. lol And you're right, it's way more expensive than just buying glossy cs. But if you have scraps of photo paper lying around and no glossy, then it's convenient(as long as you're not planning on heat embossing).
I don't think they're the same. I tried printing a photo on SU glossy CS and it didn't work. Perhaps others have had better luck than I did, but the photo printed on glossy CS looked terrible when I did it. It's possible that photo paper could be used in place of glossy CS, though. I haven't tried that. But as you mentioned, photo paper is much more expensive than glossy CS, so I don't think I'll be trying to make that substitution.
I tried using the Photo Paper with my brayer when I first got it. I was all excited and thought this would be great, but it didn't work. The Versa Mark would not dry. I haven't tried any thing else with it. I just ended up buying the SU Glossy Card Stock.
I find that the glossy cardstock that SU sells is much nicery to work with. I used the photo paper for crayon resist with my brayer, and it was awful to work with. It stuck to my brayer... curled... and scratched easily. The SU glossy is a dream to work with. It has a nice weight, and doesn't scratch like the photo paper. I don't think it is worth the crappy results to substitute anything for it.

there are many differences between glossy cardstock and photo paper. for one, as mentioned photo paper is more expensive, but for good reason. glossy cardstock is NOT acid free. I've tried printing photos on glossy CS, and it did not come out well (I was trying to save a few cents  ). it's much better and less frustrating to print photos an paper made for that. not to mention that a few years down the road the pics on photo paper will still be there, who knows with the glossy CS??? seeing as how it's not acid free.
there's something about the finish on glossy CS that makes it wonderful to stamp with, but not ideal for printing photos. as well as for the way photo paper is made, there's just something about it that makes it great for pics, yet also makes it horrible for embossing. I hope these ramblings make sence.

has anyone tried polished stone on photo paper? was thinking this might be a good way to use scraps of photo paper, but i haven't tried it.
I know I saw this recommended by someone on the Technique Junkies discussion list, but I haven't tried it myself. I think I remember them saying you didn't need to use alcohol when using the photo paper, but I'm not totally sure about that. I recently lost all my saved technique reference e-mails due to computer problems so I can't verify that now. :( :? Linda

It took a day for mine to dry (blotchy) so I brayered again the next day. Same result (yuck) They can't be the same.

They are not the same. Techniques that work on one, may yield poor results on the other. They are NOT interchangeable in many cases. And, considering the cost of photo paper, I find it strange anybody would use it as a substitute for bonafide glossy card stock.

At my last workshop, a customer said she had so much photo paper that she was going to try it and another customer piped up and said it's not the same, she tried it for faux linen and it didn't work. I also told them that glossy CS was cheaper. My Stamper's 10 loves the stuff because I have been showing them all kinds of techniques. I don't know why anyone would want to use the photo paper when it's so expensive.

DH works for Kodak, so we have boatloads of photo paper and have found that I really only use it for crayon resist and polished stone; I haven't liked the results of any other technique I've tried.

I agree... I've tried using photo paper for brayer resist and it SUCKED! I didn't get an even color... it was not rich and deep color like I get with glossy. Now I know that I just have to buy glossy in bulk because I use it all the time... I LOVE THAT STUFF!

I have used photo paper b/c it was all I had...but it doesn't work like the glossy does. It's no worse than using regular CS. But I found that you couldn't use the Versamark and still see your image after you brayer.
Hi! Yes I have used photo paper. Its ok for some techniques. Its lighter in weight. I had trouble with the resist method working on it. I prefer SU's glossy. I hope this helps :o
