Last night I went into a stamping store; there were two young women, maybe 20 years old behind the counter. I tell them my problem:
"Hi. I'm workning with glitter; I was using "The essential glue Pad" you sold me, but the glitter won't stick to it."
They stare at me a moment like I'm from Mars, then ask "What kind of glitter are you using?"
"Martha Stewart" I aswered.
"Is it fine? Sometimes it won't stick if it's too course"
"No, It's pretty fine."
"Oh, Well, you need to use a glue pen. Glitter will stick to THIS."
"How will I glue the entire surface of a rubberstamp with that? My stamp is large and lacy and I'm doing 100 Christmas cards. Obviously I didn't give enough information. Let me try again. "You see, I'm pressing my stamp into a glue PAD. I press it onto the paper, I sprinkle the image with glitter, but the glitter falls off after a few minutes. I've tried it with heat and even with pigmant ink but it's not PERMANENT."
The moron twins look at each other and decide they are dealing with a moron.
"You have to put glue in the pad that's why it comes with a refill bottle."
"It's brand new. There's glue in the pad."
"No, when they're new they don't have any glue in them, you have to fill it with the little bottle."
"Look, I've been stamping for 12 years. I think I would have notice it the pad had no glue in it." Let's try this again, obviously I've left out something. "OK, I stamp my rubberstamp in the glue pad, I press it on the paper, YES, There was glue on it. I sprinkle glitter over the image. The glitter sticks...until it dries. It just falls right off. I need something PERMANENT.
"OH! You're STAMPING!
So one of the girls takes me to the back of the store where they keep the ink pads and shows me a bottle of glue and says that this is Permanent glue and this will work.
"How do I get it on my rubberstamp?" I ask, now quite certain I'm dealing with a half-wit.
"OH! You're STAMPING!
Disgusted, I said, "Forget it, this is POINTLESS!" and left without my answer.

You should try SU! Heat and stick powder. Just stamp with versamark or pigment ink then sprinkle on and heat like you're embossing. Then you can pour the glitter on and heat set and it will STICK!!!
Sorry you had to deal with mental midgets....unfortunately they are everywhere:-)
Yikes! that is frustrating. I also use the heat and stick powder from Stampin' Up! you just have to be careful not to over heat it but it works wonderfully!
I bought the glue pad and mine had no glue on it when it was purchased. I had to apply it before using. I think the literature that came with it said that you have to add glue before using. Mine worked fine and sounded so much easier than using the heat and stick powder.
Morons - that's putting it lightly. I'd let the owner know of their lack of knowlege and service. I haven't use the essntial glue pad but I did try the pallette glue pad and it's awful. I like SU! hat and stick the best - but one word of caution, do not, I repeat, do not overheat because it won't work it you do.
I found this review on the essential pad and it will validate your experince:
After I sprinkle the glitter, I lay a sheet of typing paper over the top and then brayer. That seems to help the glitter settle into the glue better. Then I set the image aside for a LONG time. I try to wait at least 24 hrs before working with it. Seems to work better for me that way. Oh, and I don't use my glue pad everyday and find I do have to re-add the glue every time.

That is right. The pad in an unopened essential glue pad is completely dry and has never had glue added to it. If you didn't add the glue to the pad, perhaps you purchased a returned pad that someone had already added glue to. If your pad had glue on it, I can't think of any other explanation. Perhaps you could add additional glue and try again.
Are you using coated cardstock? According to the instructions, this will yield the best results. Perhaps the cardstock you are using as too much tooth and you are not getting good adhesive adherence to the paper.

LOL! Doesn't it, though! My Husband came in with me and was embarased at my behavior as though I was harassing them with "My superior knowledge". I was merely attempting to make them understand. I felt like I was talking to children.

I think the Palette Glue Pad comes with glue already on the pad. The Essential Glue Pad, which comes with the refill bottle, needs to have the glue applied to it from the start. I've used the Essential one, and it works fairly well if I let it set up for about a day. You really need to let it set, or else all of the glitter will rub or fall right off. The Heat & Stick powder works well. You just have to work quickly.
LOL!!..... I'm sure that it was NOT funny when it was happening to you, but it was hilarious to read about it!! Were you hiding in my store about a week ago?? It was about glue, but about paper..... sheesh deja vu all over again. "I felt like I was talking to children" Uhmmmmm.... you were talking to "children". What does that say about our education system?? Part of the problem is LISTENING!!! ooyyiiiieee!!!

It sounds like you bought a bad pad. Mine works perfectly. The clerks were correct though; the pad does come "uninked". They don't sell them "inked" because the glue does dry out fairly quickly. The directions also tell you to clean the pad between uses, I guess to get the dried glue bits out.
i must be doing something wrong with my heat and stick, cuz it sure doesn't make SU's chunky glitter stay in place. i've not found anything that makes it stay, and look nice. but i keep trying!
i too, bought the pallette glue pad, and it sucketh....
My problem yesterday along these same lines is when i went to three different hardware stores looking for something and EACH "kid" that helped me at ALL THREE PLACES stopped mid-help to answer a text message on their cell. How utterly annoying...

You think like me!! When I run across people who work somewhere that are suppose to be able to help you and cant - I always think "you pay your help $6 an hr you get $6 bucks worth of knowledge!" (sometimes more like a buck fifty)
I have the Tsukineko Essential glue pad (the one that comes dry and you have to add glue from the refill bottle that comes with it before you use it) and it works GREAT with glitter. I have seen other posts with complaints about it but mine ROCKS and the glitter does not come off. I really love glitter and have used mine a lot with no problems. But I have not used the Palette glue pad.
I ink up the Essential pad really well before I use it. I work the glue into the pad with the refill bottle tip and tap the stamp on it a couple of times to be sure it has plenty of glue on it and immediately pour on the glitter. When I'm done, I rinse the pad off and press it with folded paper towels to dry it. My only complaint is that I can't find anyplace to buy the glue refill.
Just thought I'd toss in a quick word because it has been nagging at me for 2 days... Pretty much everytime I use glitter, some comes off the card (my Mom had a terrible time of it, but I think her glitter was not fine enough). Stampendous makes some Ultra Fine Jewel glitters that are marvelous.
One thing I did find that works nicely is to use glitter embossing powder. Stampendous makes some called "Tinsel" and it is very pretty and of course the glitter is melted into the embossing powder (and the Red Dragon is to die for!). I also use Stickles (but that is for applying after the fact). Haven't tried a Glue Pad yet, but now I really want to!!!
