DESPERATE FOR HELP
Hi all -- I have posted before about this prob and I have been and bought the ink pads suggested but still having issues. I have a black SU, black Memories, and black Versafine ink pads and they ALL smudge on the white SU CS. PLEASE can someone tell me why ??? Which black ink does not smudge on SU white CS ??? I use white heaps and am so over wasting card. Any help will realllllly be appreciated. Kim
Isn't the white SU cardstock a little glossy? Odds are that's the culprit, which is why Sharon has good luck with Stazon, which is meant for slick and non-porous surfaces.
whisper white has a coating on it because, its designed to hold the ink on top of the paper for things like two step stamping.
all the inks you mentioned are not going to stay put on it... (unless you heat emboss it)
the thing that works on a slick surface is Staz-on if you can stand the fumes.

Thank you ladies -- I had a feeling I was going to have to go back to Stazon. It is just such a same because with the old SU ink pads I never had a problem
I agree about the StazOn, but might you consider heat embossing some of those inks that stay wet for so long? That might be a solution. Even though it adds a step, at least you'd be able to use the inks you own.
Are you using SU! white cardstock for any particular reason? Maybe a simple solution would be to switch to a different brand of white, and just use all of the other SU! colors. I loathe and despise StazOn, and LOVE Versafine, so that's what I would be doing (in fact, it's what I do)
I always use India Ink by Superior. Works great on glossy paper, dries fast on vellum. I could never get a good impression with Stazon, especially with highly detailed stamps.
I also use India Ink black & love it. It sleeps on my desk all the time, waiting for me to use it. I have 14 or more other blacks & India Ink is my first choice. But then I never use SU WW either.

I've never used SU WW cardstock, but I do use Kromecote Cover glossy cardstock, which is the glossiest cardstock I've ever seen. With this paper, I use Ranger's Archival Jet Black, and have never had a problem. I get crisp, clear images. And I also use Superior's India Ink like someone else suggested (can't stand the smell of Stazon).
The Versafine should work; you might try using your heat gun for a few seconds after stamping to ensure that the ink is completely dry.
Are you coloring your images? Is that when the ink smears, or does it just not dry at all? If it smears when coloring, consider the combination of ink and your coloring medium. For instance, Copics will smear if you use Stazon (or any solvent-based ink). And dye-based ink will smear when using water-based markers or watercolors.
Hope you find a combination that fits!

Holtzfan, the india ink I referred to is in an ink pad, not the traditional bottled india ink used in calligraphy. It's made by Stewart Superior. Sorry for any confusion.
Kim, Like you I am frustrated with the SU black ink. Why can't a company like this solve the problem already? I bought the new black ink pad when it was changed and found out it was horrible. Didn't anyone try the ink before changing the formula? I don't like using Stazon on everything.
The formula for the SU! Basic Black has had a problem for a long time. The company knows about it so contact your demonstrator and tell him/her that your ink pad is one of the ones with the ink that doesn't dry well. There is NO reason why SU! inks won't work on the Whisper White card stock as some have suggested - in fact, I do it all the time! For me, using StazOn isn't out of the norm since the previous (before the reformulation & firm foam was introduced) SU! Basic Black Classic Stampin' Pads to me had a purple look to them instead of the blackest black that I was looking for. I am sure they tried it before changing the formula so I don't know what the deal is but it is obviously an issue. The new firm foam pads allow your stamp to get more ink on it so it may take a few seconds to dry versus the old ones which dried instantaneously. One advantage to this is that you can emboss them with clear powder! In fact, I just did that on my card for a new challenge site design team (As You See It Challenges) I'm on. It's certainly a way you could use your black in the meantime, but definitely contact your demonstrator to get your pad replaced! SU! is a great company with great customer service so I'm sure they'd be glad to help you out!
