Aaacckkk!!!! I've had this happen to me before too!
Now I'm kinda OCD with the stamps. After I'm done stamping I clean again and before I stamp I clean again, just in case......
It's bad if you did it yourself.... but if one of your kids did it! I've learned the hard way! Now I have a kids only selection of stamps, ink pads and their paper in a box just for them!
If you let the kids use your inks and stamps just put out one stamp per color at opposite ends of the table. And supervise til they are old enough..... May take longer in some cases.....
Use paper towel to dab out the color you don't want as much as you can then reink. craft is a bit easier to clean......
versamark...... well that's the way the ball bounces!
I agree with you Gail, kids that I stamp with are way more careful than some adults. And try blotting with a baby wipe, then reinking. I saved a Pretty in Pink ink pad that had Basic Black on it with a blot or two of a baby wipe and then a good reinking.

Thanks for all the ideas...I will give them a try and see which works.
For anyone looking on how to clean the plastic ink pad cases...magic eraser works great :o) Will remove marker & most ink stains :o) & I've used double sided tape to remove glitter off the pad surface.
I had also bought a used ink pad & discovered it has been re-inked with the wrong color. So maybe these tips will work to correct that as well :o)
