Yipee! I'm on my way to a conference in Evanston, IL and will be staying in Skokie (near Old Orchard Mall) Aug 5 - 10. I really don't know my way around the area very well, but in the evenings I'll be free and would love to check out a great stamp store or two. I'm from the Madison, WI area where we have a Michaels and an Archivers. Ideas? TIA
I grew up in Evanston, and now live further north in Lake County. Granted, I haven't lived there in a while, but my parents are still there. I really can't think of any great stamp (or even scrapping) stores in the Evanston/Skokie area. Of course there are Michaels, and there were a couple of LSS along Golf Road that I think have since closed. There is an Archivers not too far from Old Orchard, further west on Golf Road in Niles. Sorry!
I live about 1 hour from chicago area/suburbs....but i heard that Tom Thumb is AWESOME...so be ready to be in heaven...Wall to wall stamps!!! Have fun!
I grew up in Skokie and used to work in Old Orchard - went to the high school across the street from the mall! I now live in Zion, IL which is way up in Lake County. There's a scrapbook store in Deerfield called Fine Arts Scrapbooking. Deerfield isn't that far from Skokie but I don't know if you'll have a car.
Have fun at your conference!
Cheers,

Wow -- when I grew up, Tom Thumb was the place to go for skater stuff, r/c cars, and the like. Never knew it transformed into a stamper's heaven. I'll have to go check it out the next time I'm visiting my parents!
I agree with Kelly about Fine Arts Scrapbooking, although I do find it to be quite expensive. It's about a 1/2 hour drive north from Old Orchard.
The site provides directions too. They have classes and the pictures online look like a nice store (they also have an online store extension which is www.morethanbink.com).
If you stop by make sure you tell Terry you heard about him on SCS! (Tell him Crafty Math Chick says "hi").
Chicago is a grat city - I hope you have a blast!!

Hi! This question gets asked quite often so I thought I'd compile a list for visitors... I am still working on the official list... but my blog readers helped me by telling me their fave stores in chicagoland. If you look at the comments of this post on my blog you can see their faves...
As someone previously said, check out Stampology. They have classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. You can get info on their website...stampologychicago.com. The classes are a blast. The staff is lots of fun. I'm there frequently and always have a great time. PM me if you want to meet for the classes.
Hi all, Amazing stuff! It was a great time and way too short. Another place I stumbled on was the Paper Source -- amazing papers, wonderful stamps, lots and lots of great ideas. Thanks for helping make a good trip a great one!
Wish I'd seen your post earlier! Evanston is a beautiful town. We so enjoy visiting our son and daughter-in-law there. And getting to visit PaperSource, Tom Thumb, and Dick Blick is a definite plus! In the same area as PaperSource is a bread shop, and an absolutely incredible spice shop. Lots of fun!!!
