Question Best Embossing Heat Gun?

Are any of the newer heat guns that have come out worth the extra money compared to using a coupon at Micheal's for the Marvy brand?

Colorizer has 2 temps. Is that Really useful? Does one "blow" less powder away before it melts it?

If one is better, where can I get one? Can get to JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby, SU, CTMH.

Thanks,

Amy in TN

this is my first post. I hope this thing notifies me of responses! And that I can find them. LOL!

I bought mine from Hobby Lobby and my daughter who is a demo has one from SU. I have to admit I like hers alot better when we are working together.

I'm only familiar w/ the Marvy & SU heat guns. I got the Marvy @ Michael's with a coupon but I've used the SU heat gun and like it much better (and will get one with my next big order). The SU heats up faster than the Marvy & is less prone to scorching paper.

Amy,

I've had a Marvy one for years (probably 5 or 6), and never have had a problem with it. It's held up well and works just fine. Think I got it back then using a 40% off Michaels coupon.

I have one that I bought from Suze Weinberg's website. It is pricy ($125) but soooo quiet and very fast. I love it.

I have one from our local craft store- I think it is Darice or something like that~ and I have the SU! one. The SU! is without a doubt much better!

I have to have heavy duty ones because I teach classes and mine get used heavily. The Marvy's just do not last for me. On the other hand I have had 2 Milwaukeee's (as recommended in several stamping magazines) and both have been used for 7 years and still going strong. They have also been dropped numerous times and sometimes used by a large group of people for hours on end. Worth the extra money. Usually around $35 but I can find them on sale now and then for $25.

I have the Marvy Uchinda one, but would rather have the SU! one. The SU! one gets much narrower at the end and so heats up better and is more specific. JMO - I plan to replace mine for the SU! one soon.

I initially started out 11 years ago with a Milwaukee. I paid $35 for it.

It has never let me down. I swear by Milwaukee brand Heat Tools. You can find them in hardware stores, but they do run $35+ when I checked a few years ago.

When SU! added the Milwaukee heat tool to the product line, I was thrilled!

I believe SU! had Milwaukee revamp the heat tool about two/three years ago to recess the metal nozzel within the plastic housing for safety reasons and they had the SU! logo imprinted on it.

I did have a customer about 5 years ago that purchased a Marvy (magenta colored tool) at JoAnn's. It burnt out within 3 uses, she returned it. Again, same thing, she returned it. When it happened third time, she demanded a refund and bought the next heat tool through me/SU! Never heard of her having another complaint.

I will say this: whether you buy the heat tool via SU! or not, *invest* in a Milwaukee. As far as I'm concerned the price, for reliability and quality is worth it.

I have to go with the SU one... I had a Marvy...it worked well...I wanted to be able to demo so I had to invest in the SU one... BOY AM I GLAD I DID!!! I like it much better...there is a difference so in this case I would suggest you spend a few more $ and get the SU one.

Default Milwaukie is the best

I've been stamping since 1987 and Milwaukee is the ONLY one for me! I had a Marvey when I gave my Milwaukee to my mom. It burned out within a few years so back to the Milwaukee I went. It is quieter and lasts forever. Worth every penny. When I was a stamp convention in Oregon in March there were people offering the Milwaukee for only $30!

OK, I vote Milwaukee, too. The only reason I intend to switch to SU's is, one, obviously, to demo, and two, for the recessed tip. If you've EVER heard a child screaming because he just HAD to touch the barrel of a hot heat tool, you'd know why...they get VERRY hot!

Cool

Well, the only Milwaukee heat tool I have is for stripping paint. It works great, and has several differnt attachments for it. Yes, I do use it for my embossing and haven't had a problem with it.

I've had the Milwaukee one for many years now. I've considered getting the SU one... since I'm a demo, but I've always wondered if would work as well as what I already have. Now that I know the SU is a Milwaukee... I'm going to get it!!

i love my SU gun! it heats up in a flash and its quieter than than that stinkin Marvey (one of which somehow bit the dust after a month). Go for it, you won't regret it!

I'm an SU demo and had one of the "pink" heat guns. Then I finally bought the SU one, which is much better. But I do a lot of crafts besides simple embossing on cards. The problem is that a regular heat gun blows stuff right off the surface, as when you are doing multi layers of UTEE.

I just got a Colorizer a few weeks ago and it is GREAT. It has two temperature settings, but on either setting there is high heat output and low airflow. It is very quiet and doesn't blow your work to the next county. I hope SU will eventually go to this type of heat gun.
