I just received an American Express Gift card, and wanted to use it to buy crafting stuff online. Does anyone know of online stores that take this type of payment? I know Joann's and Overstock doesn't.
I really would like to use it online, for a better selection.
If you're looking for general supplies, Scrapbook.com takes AMEX. I checked their payment FAQs and they do not list any exlusions for gift card types. Unfortunatley many sites do not list thier payment options clearly and AMEX is not always accepted. Usually if I want to use anything AMEX related and I'm not sure about it at a given site, I just select an item as a test. If I find AMEX not listed as an option during checkout I simply exit out and leave. If AMEX is there, then I exit out and continue my shopping. Kind of a pain to do.
Most systems don't know if it's a gift card or cc, as long as it's a valid number. The only potential issue is that you'd have to use the exact amount or less because most systems won't let you split payment options.
You generally cannot use a credit card gift card as a partial payment at most places. It's just how the payment processing works. To get around that:
1. Find a store that accepts american express.
2. Buy a gift card in the exact amount of your AE gift card; pay with the AE card.
3. Use the store gift card to pay for your purchase.
My local stores accept them, and I have used them online to buy stuff on Amazon.com as well. I get stuff from them often and wait until I get $25 on my list so I get the free shipping and only order stuff that has free shipping from them.
