Default Am I the only 1 confused about Papertrey OOAL?

Ok...let's see. They made the original set and everyone didn't like the idea that the lettering was so small and it was hard to get a good image, right?

So...they made a new set with additional images? right?

And now the old set that we already own (which by the way I've never used) can be updated...because there is a revision out there, right?

The new revision set for the images are larger, right? and that will cost $24.00? right?

But, if you already own the set, it will cost only $5.00 for the revised image set, right?

But if you want all the words and quotes...you have to by the revised set, right? At $24.00?

Do I have this all RIGHT? LOL

I think this is how it works.

There is a new set that will have the additional overlays (the images you stamp onto the branches) that will be available for $5.

There is a new set that has the sentiments in a larger font and includes some additional sentiments that will be available for $24. The additional sentiments are only available through the purchase of this new set.

The older set has been/will be discontinued.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I have the old set and I love it. But I really feel that the enlarged sentiments should be a $15.00 set and not a $24.00 set. Why? It is already designed. If it were a new design, I could see spending the money. Although I will probably buy the larger sentiments, the smaller size current set works just fine for me.

I can easily spend $15.00 on acrylic sets, but $24.00 hurts a bit so I have to be careful at that price point. I am a huge PTI fan, but can only afford occasional stamps, I cannot even dream about the patterned paper or ink colors at this point in my life.

Candy has it right.

They split the old set into two new sets - one with images and one with words.

They added a couple of stamps to the new image set, which can be purchased separate for $5, or the whole set is $24.

The words set was enlarged and also has new stamps. It is being sold for $24

I agree with Judy that I won't be purchasing the new words because I can't justify buying a duplicate word set at $24. Even if they are larger.

The pricing is dependent on the number of sheets required for the stamp set. 1 sheet is $15, 2 sheets are $24. They must have really enlarged the sentiments.

They enlarged them by 200%, so they are quite a bit bigger.

For those not familiar with Papertrey, or don't know what we're talking about, you can find the post here: Nichole's Blog

I don't know if you can return the set or not. But if you email customer service at PTI, I bet they can answer your question.

In my opinion, and it is just my opinion, I would probably just keep the old set and order the new phrase set and the overlays. I'm sure you would have to pay return shipping for the original set and then order the two new sets. The two new sets would cost you $48(for both) plus whatever the return shipping cost to send the old one back. Or, if you kept the old one, it would cost you $29 for the overlays($5) and the new phrases($24) plus the $24 you already spent on the old set for a total of $53. If return shipping is less than $5, you are better off sending it back, assuming it is new and you haven't used or assembled it yet. But if the shipping is more than $5, you are better off keeping the old one. Does that make sense?

I personally don't plan on ordering the new phrases, although I will order the overlays. I am satisfied with the old size, and really can't justify spending another $24 for words I already have. So I can certainly see why some people would be upset about all this. They have every right to be upset. I know how frustrating it is to buy something and then have a new and improved version come out soon after.

Hopefully you are able to get this all sorted to your satisfaction. Good luck!!

I love PTI no matter what!!!! I love all the ladies there and their great blogs! But, I have to have the new sets, cuz I've been wanting to send the sentiments to my mom...but unfortunately my 82 year old mother would of never been able to read it. NOW SHE WILL!!!

I was just confirming what it was going to cost me.

Thanks everyone.

I wasn't confused. Let's see if I can muddle the mess anymore.

Originally, the set came WITH the sentiments. They were really small. (I've never used them, because they are so tiny...but don't really want to pay to get them in the bigger font, so, oh well! I really only bought it for the tree limb and overlays)

The new set does NOT come with the sentiments and includes 2 more overlays.

For $5, those that have the original set can buy the 2 additional overlays.

For $24, those that have the original set OR the new set can buy the new sentiments.

I do NOT think that the pricing structure is good on the new OOAL set, you're NOT getting any sentiments, and you're only getting 2 new overlays for the same price that the original set sold for WITH sentiments. I think that each of the sets (New Out on a Limb and New Out on a Limb Sentiments) should sell for $15 each. That's my own, personal opinion. I know that I WILL pay $5 for the 2 additional overlays, that, I think, is a fair price.

Make anymore sense than before?

All I know is that I would love that set but wish it came with at least a couple sentiments- I would rather not have the new overlays and a couple phrases..... that said- I think the images could be $24 and the sentiments $15 - not sure I will be buying the sentiments but I really do like them- maybe next month

I think this is a darned if she did, darned if she didn't situation. Nichole must have had lots of complaints about the small size of the sayings and altered the set to solve those complaints. The sayings ARE small in the original set. But larger stamps=higher cost, which gets people's dander up, especially when we're all paying so freaking much for gas and groceries.

But OOAL is one of my all-time favorite sets ever, so I'll likely get the $5 set and the $24 saying set. The sayings alone are wonderful and can apply to so many other images.

It's got to be hard trying to make everyone happy with a hugely popular product line. Kudos to Nichole for working so hard to be responsive to her customers' opinions!

I like PTI but not in love - I have the mixed messages set and boy are those also tiny. I couldn't read them when they were inked so I inked my them with black stazon and let it dry. Now I can find the stamp I want.

I guess when you are a new company it takes a bit for them to learn about what will/will not be received well. I'm glad I didn't buy the OOAL set before they increased the size.

I love a lot of the Papertrey stamps but they have gone through quite a few "growing pains" it seems. Remember, for Out on a Limb, some of the original sentiment stamps had errors and they replaced them?? And the type was SO tiny. I love the quotations and I wish I had just held out for the better set. But who knew?! So... I think I'm going to try to hold off on Papertrey sets when they first come out. Keep an eye on things, make sure the sets are all accurate, and start seeing more samples to get a better idea of sizes, etc. And I think that was back when Nichole was trying to juggle her SCS member company status as well as her wildly popular company and blog.

Hooray! I wish more companies would totally separate the sentiments from the images!!!! So many times I have not bought a set 'cause I can't stand the sentiments. I have the new OOAL set on my wish list!

I completely agree about separating images and sentiments -- having them in the same set just reminds me of why I don't like store-bought cards anyway... I could never find an image and sentiment I liked on the same card, and that's what I like about making my own.

And I hope I was able to convey that I really do understand the growing pains -- and I know Nichole & Co. do everything possible to try to satisfy their customers. For all the little glitches, they never just let anything slide - they always tried to work out a prompt solution. And Papertrey has some of the cleanest, classiest and most unique designs out there. Nichole is an incredible project designer -- to me she's the "Martha" of papercrafting. I love to see her make magic!!

I so agree with that! Mostly because now they're separating the sets, and I just wanted the branches, and not all the sentiments.

Although I'm definitely happy for selfish reasons (lol!) that PTI is releasing a new addition of OOAL, it seems like they may have perhaps created more confusion/frustration. I can't imagine THAT many people complained about the size of the sentiments-- it seems like OOAL is one of their most popular sets-- but who knows. Like someone mentioned earlier, I definitely give them credit for best trying to keep their customers satisfied, but you can't please everyone, you know? I'm happy about it, but I would kind of be bummed if I had the original set and probably wouldn't want to spend additional $ on the same sentiments, just bigger.

Oh and if anyone has specific questions (like- why are the new sentiments $24 and not $15) Nichole answers them on her forum here.

In any case... I can't wait for this upcoming release-- not just for the new OOAL but for all the real "new" sets!!! it looks like it's going to be fantastic from what we've seen on Nichole's blog so far!

I agree- I won't be buying the new sets. I'm not even sure if I want the additional overlays. I hardly use the sentiments because of the size but can't justify spending $24 on enlarging them. Oh well...

Sort of eating my words.... a couple of days ago, I commented that I'll just hang back and make sure all of Papertrey's sets are really "good to go" before purchasing. My oh my... have you all seen what she has in store this month?? The patterned paper set is going to be incredible!! And I was just messing around today with the mailbox set and the baby set and... oh well - I'll face the truth: It's hopeless. I cannot resist Papertrey  . Between the honeybees and the mailboxes ~ and now this set ~ well, I'm hooked again!!

Maybe these comments really didn't go along with the OP, but I knew I expressed some reticence and I thought it only fair that I 'fess up!!

what is frustrating to me is that they should of announced it. It was on back order forever!!! So I finally got it two months ago. You plan stamp sets 6 months in advance. I would of waited for the new and improved set. Oh well...a little annoyed but I'm over it >"< my money will go somewhere else for a while.

I didn't even think the sentiments were too small! haha! Guess they were now that I think about it! I still love Papertrey and Nichole is so sweet and a lovely person. I think they do everything they can to make "us" happy and to me, that is kinda like trying to make everyone at a family gathering happy...you just can't do it all the time for everyone! I do understand the frustrations here though but hope you all will give them a chance and continue to be customers!

I'm afraid I just don't understand the problem. When the set originally came out, the size of the sentiments was clear. They were SMALL. Lots of people appreciated the set because of that. The fact that they came out with another verion with larger sizes of the same sentiments is totally irrelevant to the first set. I bought the set based on the size of the type, with no knowledge of a larger set coming.

It's really not unusual at all to have different sizes of the same stamp. I have several image sets where a focal image in particular is released in 2 or even 3 sizes. It's a GOOD thing, lol...more options is always a good thing...

Maybe I didn't look for enough "clues" or something but I remember being distinctly surprised when my first OOAL set arrived and saw how truly small the type was. Of course, on Nichole's blog there are always close-ups. I don't think (could be wrong!!) it was pointed out specifically that they were considerably smaller than almost anything else ... and maybe that would have helped.

I kind of wish that the stamp companies used the typographer's point system so people have an idea of the size (most people are fairly used to this from using word processors with the font size given in points now, but it could always be explained).

I have a question for all of you - she asked sheepishly. I was making a card tonight and thanks to this thread the Papertrey OOAL sentiments came to mind. When we were sent replacement sentiments because there were typographical errors on some of the original ones, I decided to give my set to my SU demo who coveted it from afar (and saves all of her budget for SU, but loves other stamps!) as a birthday gift, settling for simply the sentiments which I love. Lo and behold, when I brought them out (the replacements that had been sent quite some time ago), I discovered that each of the quotation sentiments stamps with ghosting. All of the type is like double-vision -- an offset ghosting of the letters. Has anyone else had this?? I'm embarrassed that I haven't used it until now and thought if anyone else was in the same boat, they might want to check their's out, too. So... now I have my rationale for ordering the larger sized sentiments - and I was adamant that I would not replace them but save my budget for something new LOL!! It must be destiny...

I have not had the ghosting problem. I would send them back and ask for replacements. You will surely get the same size, but I am sure Nicole/Papertrey does not want an unusable set out there nor does she want an unhappy customer.

Thanks for the head's up, Phantom...I haven't used my replacements yet either, lol. Guess I should take the time to check 'em out?
