Hi...is anyone going to be at the Adventures in Stamping convention in Akron, Ohio? I have travelled from Ontario, Canada several times to this convention because I really do enjoy it. This year, I am taking my SIL with me even though she is not a rubber stamper (she is an artist - paints mostly animals, horses, dogs, cats etc). We are leaving very early this Thurs. morning and we will be staying at the Quaker Mills hotel for three nights. I am so excited
I will be there - both days!! Only live about 12 minutes away - luckily, because our daughter is in a softball tournament at Firestone Stadium that weekend. I can get to the stadium in 2 minutes - from there to the convention in 10 minutes. So glad I'm so close to both and will be able to travel back and forth. Can't wait. See you there!
I will be going Friday to take a few classes with my mother, spending the night and staying all day on Saturday. I'm sure my mother will be there until they escort her out.
I booked three classes, however, one was cancelled and one was moved to a different time, so I cancelled the two of them. The one I am taking is on Fri and when that is over we are taking a trip to Hollos as well. I cannot go all this way and not go to Hollos. I am also going to make my usual stop at Pat Catans and probably Hobby Lobby as we do not have either of these in Canada.
I am getting excited just talking about it:-D
I am going live about 5 minutes from the convention center went last year and was in Heaven. I already have my ticket to get in a hour early. Glendelia and tesno for a great deal on paper Hollo's is a must it does not look like much but they have the best deal on papers and envies the other stuff not so great.. It is a good drive from Akron but worth it. I would go out to Montrose first it is out west Akron there you will find a large Michaels, JoAnn's ,Archivers and a Pat catans a little further down but all on the same road and Tons of resturants really !!! If you want to go to hobby lobby you may want to do that first because it is in stow which is closer(20minutes) to the convention center. I think if you go to pat Catans they are pretty similar.

on a side note, I scan when I'm on SCS and I saw your post and thought it said "I can't go, I'll be in heaven." For a second, I thought this was your swan song!!
Enjoy

Thanks...I have been to Medina/Brunswick several times before and have been to Hollos and Pat Catans there. I have also been to Pat Catans on Market St in Akron. Can you tell me where the Archivers is as I have never been to one before and I am not sure where the Jo-Anns is either. Is there any way that I can get my hands on some coupons for these places? I tried to print off some Jo-Anns coupons from a blog that was referred to on here, but, they won't print for me.
Joan LOL!! that speed reading course isn't working. Glendia Archivers and Joans,Michaels are all on the same road if you have been to the Pat Catans on Market the rest are about 10 minutes or less down the road Michaels and Archivers are right across from each othe and Joanns is the next corner on the same side as Archivers . There are two Pat Catans in Akron there is one closer to the convention center . Give me some time and I will get you directions and see if I can find some coupons. Archivers sent me a email but there were no coupons but I have printed out Michaels and Joanns coupons from off line. I love being a enabler LOL!!!
I looked at the website this year, and decided that the stamp companies I really wanted to see weren't there this year :( So I didn't think it was worth the drive and the money. I'm sure it will be fun, but it just seemed like fewer companies this year?

I will be there on Saturday, with an early-bird ticket but most likely won't spend the whole day. Stamping is also my full-time job, so I get easily bored with browsing at the convention since it's what I do 40 hours a week. I manage a small stamping store that's 30 minutes west of Akron... if you're in the mood for a drive to the country, come to Toyrifix! We have an ad in the program, too. If you need directions, PM me and I'll help you out or give you my phone number so you can call me that day if you're lost!

I've heard of you, and haven't made it there yet...I think it would be a better use of my time to come to your store INSTEAD of going to the convention!

LOL - You would get much better, personal attention at Toyrifix ;-) I went to AIS last Spring, and while it was fun and tons of stuff there, I was on stimulation overload - then again, it doesn't help that I'm not a crowd lover, lol

Glendia here is the link for coupons if you click on the sidebar where it says retail it will give you a list of stores. I have used these lots of time no problem. The Archivers is on Market street like Pat Catans the address is 3737 W Market St. just plop it into map quest. The Michaels will be right across the street and Joanns will be about a block or 2 down from Archivers it sits back off the street next.
Tammy I have never heard of Toyrifix went to the site where is Smithsville??? what is it close to? May have to pay you a visit.
Hi Alicia! Smithville is right on State Route 585 between Barberton and Wooster (but much closer to Wooster) in Wayne County .... about 5 miles west of State Route 57.

OMG . . . SCS is SO bad for my budget!
I have my ticket for AIS for Saturday morning and am excited to go. It will be my first time. I live in North Canton and actually work downtown Akron! Those of you staying at The Inn at Quaker Square will LOVE it. It used to be a Hilton, but now it is owned by The University of Akron. It's very unique.
Tammy--I know where Smithville is. I cannot believe that until NOW I've never heard of Toyrifix. My DH will be SO pleased that I've found another place to "browse!"
Just looked at your blog . . . Gina K? Nestabilities? Stamping Bella? Oh my! I signed up for the newsletter and am looking forward to visiting soon! Thanks!

Well, we are primarily a specialty toy store and so unfortunately the name of the store does not scream "RUBBER STAMPS!" so you're not alone in being unaware that we're here. I get that a lot. I advertised in the AIS program in Strongsville last fall, and will have a full-page ad in the program this weekend too, so I'm hoping each time we do that there will be a few more people that sit up and take notice! LOL I'm slowly but surely chipping away at letting more people know we're here. Someday I hope we can separate the 2 stores and the stamping can be on it's own but in this economy it's not going to happen. The only drawback to our situation is that unless I'm working, you don't get quite the individualized attention that you would at a traditional LSS because our employees (especially in the evening and on weekends) are teenagers and the bread-and-butter of the store is the toys so that's where more of the focus is. But if I'm here, I'm always willing to hop out from behind my desk to come and meet people and answer questions. I'm always happy to twist your arm is you need to be persuaded to buy anything, too! ;)

Tammy,
Are you there certain hours all the time? What are the store hours? Darn, I'm more excited to go to your store than I am AIS! (Is that pathetic or what?)

I'm totally with you! AIS was okay, but not as exciting as I expected. I didn't expect to have to pay $1 for a make n take after already spending $6 to get in, and I thought there would be a "convention-goers" discount on the products (just 10%, even). There were some great ideas, and it was nice to see stamps you don't normally see in stores, though

Store hours are 9:00 - 6:00 Monday through Thursday, 9:00 - 8:00 on Friday and Saturday, and 12:30 - 5:30 on Sunday. I generally work 9:30 to 5:30... one week it's Monday through Friday, then the next week is Tuesday through Saturday. It can vary sometimes depending on if I have a class, and sometimes I leave at 4:00 on Fridays if I have extra hours. You can always email me at [email protected] if you're thinking about coming over this way to see what my schedule is! I'm always so disappointed when I find out that someone new stopped in on the weekends when I'm not here, so by all means be sure to let me know if you know when you're coming! There's a great gift shop here, too (Buchanan Place... they have Vera Bradley, Yankee Candles, Boyd's Bears and tons of other great things!) and also a country bulk foods store (The Oak Cupboard) as well as an Amish Furniture store and The Barn Restaurant so there's plenty to see and do! Check out this website... http://www.thebarnrest.com/ and click on the "shops" tab at the top for a little more info! (not sure why... the site for The Oak Cupboard doesn't work.)

Wow, really? I had no idea! I've never bothered to do those because the line is always so long and it's crowded. Now I know not to bother at all!

I've never been to AIS and am going alone. None of my friends really stamp. I'm okay with going alone--then I can go at my own pace and do my own thing, etc. And, if I get bored or whatever, I'm off to Smithville! LOL
I'm going to AIS more for the exposure to new techniques and ideas. I'm still a relatively "green" stamper and have basically taught myself what I know. I did take a few classes at Crop Paper Scissors in Medina before they closed. (That was so sad.) And now I've noticed that most of the LSS in my area have closed as well. I miss them!

What time are you planning on arriving? I'm hoping to be there by 8:30 because I have to meet my friend Darlene (akronstamperdpk here on SCS) at the doors to get my ticket from her. We're happy to have another friend to tag along!
I was driving on 18 several months ago and spotted that store in Medina but didn't have time to stop. A few weeks or maybe 2 months later I was up that way so I stopped by and they had closed, but hadn't taken down the sign. I was sad... I always like to scope out other stores and see what the competition is up to! LOL

Unfortunately they've been closed for a long time. It was a nice store with great people and wonderful classes. I absolutely loved going there. I found it by mistake on my way to Hobby Lobby and was thrilled.
Mindy's, Pam's Place of Memories, and The Scrapbook Shop have all closed. It's sad.
Thanks for the invite to tag along--but I think I'll just go alone. It's all new to me and I don't want to hold anyone back. But, I do really appreciate the offer! Thanks!

I went to a camp a couple months ago in Alliance and I truly think I met her there. Her SCS name sounded familiar when you said that she was your friend and then I did go to her blog. I can't swear I met her . . . but I think I did! Does she live in Green? The problem is that everyone there was new to me and I'm really having trouble remembering where everyone lived!
