Just a random question, for cut outs, like those done with a Silhouette, how do you adhere detailed designed to paper? Ok admittedly it's not random :-) What is the best way to adhere detailed image to paper?
My favorite is herma dotto adhesive dots Apply it over scrap or a mat. Where the "holes" are in your cutout, the dots just stick to your scrap/mat and can be rubbed off. It's a very clean way to adhere intricate cutouts. The dots come in permanent and removable which I think become permanent after a period of time. You can usually buy the dispensers and refills at the big box craft stores with a coupon. HTH

I use a Xyzon, glue stick or glue pen. Depends on how small the die I'm gluing is and what glue is close at hand. I have a Martha Stewart refillable pen that works really well, now if I could just figure out which glue to refill it with.
Rather than trying to glue the cutout, I glue on the paper where it is supposed to go. Or, I spread some glue on scrap paper, use tweezers to hold the cutout and dip it briefly onto the glue. Failing that, I use my finger to spread the glue. I just use cheap white glue or Mod Podge.

This is my favorite glue. When I first started paper crafting this glue got all over my fingers because I used too much of it! A tiny tiny dot will adhere paper to paper so well! My favorite tool to apply it with? A toothpick! Especially for fine die cuts! The tiniest dab of Mono Multi glue applied with a toothpick to finest and narrowest cuts works like a charm every time!
I do this as well. Sometimes I let it dry before adhering it, so that glue does not ooze out the sides. This is especially helpful with word dies cuts.
Tweezer and/or a tool (can be DIY) with some repositional glue on it to just hold it while using tweezers to manipulate into place. Think quickutz does a tool but no reason can't use what we have - I have been known to use a lightly sticky glue dot on a pen non writing end etc...
I found a glue sponge idea on Pinterest and it works great.I use tweezers to swipe the piece across the glue saturated sponge and stick it, no mess or fuss.
Julie Ebersole had a tip on her blog recently. Keep the die cut inside the negative space of the cardstock. Then rub a glue stick all over the die cut. Remove die cut from negative space, and adhere to your card.
Great suggestions on here. I've also used a product called "Glue Gloss" and my favorite for single cards is spray-on adhesive. But if I have MANY to do it gets a bit too toxic in my room! I've just purchased a new spray (pump) E6000 but haven't given it a try yet. It is suppose to be odorless. When I spray I just hold it over my large trash can.
I used a glue pen for my Christmas cards (usually I use a Xyzon but was trying to save money) and the die cuts didn't stay on even for a few days. I thought I had enough on, in some cases too much. Is it our humid climate? or the brand of glue?.

I esp like that tech with leaving it in the orig piece of paper and rubbing with glue stick.
Instead of toothpicks I use hat pins or opened paper clips if I am in a class or something. LOL. I use those a for a lot of things! Then I can just wipe off the pin or toss the clip. I would break the toothpick I am so heavy handed.
Great question! I have used 1) the Martha Stewart Glue pen 2) a toothpick dipped in Aleene's glue 3) $ store glue pen refilled with Elmers glue (acid free???).
I might try the idea from Buried Treasures : " I spread some glue on scrap paper, use tweezers to hold the cutout and dip it briefly onto the glue". I would use a teflon or silicone mat instead of paper maybe and only for small cutouts to avoid glue waste.
Stampin Stacy: I too would like to know what glue to refill Martha's glue pen. Looks the same as the Zig glue pens liquid to me (blue liquid).
And yes, Tweezers: precision bent tip, a must for me. I got a wonderful pair in a sewing accessory package at the $ store. I use them for handling all paper pieces. Actually I have two pairs. One for each hand if needed. I'm all thumbs with my left hand though👍✍ LOL.
I was suprized by the glue stick recommendation because I have had cards fall apart with glue stick and vowed never again. I really would have to know what brand to try to even try that again.
I like using a Zig 2 way glue pen for die cuts. I will never use glue sticks again. I have had to redo my first 2 scrapbooks because EVERYTHING I glued to the pages fell off! I'm talking about over 100 pages!
How could I have forgotten the toothpick tricks, I do that all the time!
Glue sticks work well for me and things I used it on years ago are still "stuck" to the page. There are different kinds of glue stick, permanent, temporary and washable kid glue sticks. The ones for kids are junk, even my son wouldn't use them when he was little. Temporary glue sticks are great as a temporary mount for rubberstamps onto acrylic handles, they wash off without leaving residue. Something else I learned was to put glue stick on both pieces of paper and wait a few seconds before adhering. It actually tells you this on the instructions of some glue sticks.
I think you may be right Cre8ive Mind, the glue does look the same and some packaging even says EK Sucess on Amazon but I did not see refill bottles.
I do a lot of intrigate cut outs and love the Two Way glue stick sold by SU. It's a flat chisel tip and you control the amount of glue by just pushing down on the tip. Inexpensive ($2.95) and lasts a long time! I work right on the table surface and just clean up with a damp cloth or wipe. It is so easy to use.
You can use spray adhesive on the back of them. Just lay down in an open box or area where you can spray without getting on everything and just give it a shot of spray. Also, just cut out of double sided sticky paper. I have seen somebody else doing that.
Silhouette actually used to make adhesive cardstock packs... I know, I have loads still... I have to say if I were doing mega multiples (like wedding invites) I would put a sheet of double sided adhesive on the cardstock/paper before cutting as it is the same principle. Though I haven't tried it can't suggest others do - my machine is out of warranty anyway.

I use an odorless spray because I have asthma. I am not bothered. I am throwing this out here because I know a lot of people avoid sprays due to the fumes. I fall in the camp of avoiding things like that too.
RiverIsis- Glue Sticks that will stick your house down are Scotch Glue Sticks and UHU. Those are my two favorites. I only use permanent and I don't use washable. I use a lot of Glue Sticks. I haven't had anything fall apart on me. One of my book journals I used my Scotch glue stick in is close to twenty years old now. I do live in a humid area. I seem to have gotten lucky about my glues not misbehaving. My UHU glue stick I took a chance on because it was a favorite in the bookbinding community. I found an UHU stick on clearance and decided to try it out. I am glad I did.
I heard Elmer's Extreme glue stick is really good. I have not tried that one out. My Smash book & collage girlfriends love that stick.
Thanks - because I have bought glue sticks thinking "hey it is a known brand" and they were awful. So I will keep those in mind.
Talking about bookbinding - I got Yes! paste on the clearance shelf from Michaels... I'm thrilled. I know I have to be careful and close it with waxpaper to help keep it from solidifying but I am thrilled with that find.
The ones Lylacfey mentioned are the ones I use as well and I live in an opposite environment, very dry. So toss those off brands away and "stick" with quality, it's worth it in this case.
I've run my paper thru the Xyron first or used full sheet adhesive but I keep hearing my depression era grandmother in head fussing about all the waste. It's hard enough to throw away smaller bits of paper and not save them without adhesive on them, lol.
Similar to Stacy, I have the Scor-Tape (Sookwang) in ALL width up to and including 6in. I place that on the back of the piece I a going to die cut. It cuts fully and the entire piece is fully adhered no matter how intricate it is. (such as a doily)
BTW...I decided to invest in multiple sizes of tape b/c it was painful to be waistfull with scraps that had good adhesive on it.

I have the same problem and now I'm going through my small scraps and cutting them down for faux embellishments - faux enamel dots and faux buttons are high on my list - and of course they will be the perfect match to my cardstock!

I didn't know they made 6" tape! The widest I've seen is 2". That sounds awesome!
I choose my zyron over everything else; doesn't fall off eventually like some glue products; and the dispensers come in two sizes, small and for larger elements. I would just be lost without it; it makes them a sticker with adhesive backing, just add to card or page

Jennifer McGuire has shown many ways but recently showed using her finger to apply Matte Multi medium (matte gel medium) by Ranger. She just blobs a bit on her craft mat or you could use scratch paper and dabs it on with her finger. As it dries matte, it doesn't matter if you get a wee bit on the front.
I prefer something that dries rather than a sticky adhesive like Xyron or sookwang/be creative tape. It leaves the edges sticky especially with die cuts that you layer to make a thick die cut. That's also why Jenn prefers it.

I just cut out 12 of the Memory Box Winterland Trees and I'm thinking that a spray adhesive would be the best way to get them all sticky in the most efficient way. Is there a brand you would recommend and/or a brand you would stay away from?
