We were only in San Fran for a day. Did the tourist thing. Headed north.

I would have liked to visit Monterey, but we didn't have enough time to go both north and south on this trip. Everyone says it's beautiful.

Tomorrow I'm making a roast in the crock pot.

Tonight we ate popcorn. I took the kids out to lunch to A & W, then we got an ice cream cone after we went to the library. So DH ate leftover Chinese from Sunday.

I need to apologize to ya'll. I am so used to posting in the thread I "chit chat" in and totally spaced that this is a "FOOD" thread. I will do my best to refrain from the chit-chatting and try to talk about what CHRIS is making tonight for dinner.

Sure I can! I got the recipe years ago from Martin Yan (the guy who used to do the cooking show Yan Can Cook). It's terrific!

Char Siu (Chinese BBQ Pork)

1/4 c soy sauce
2 Tbsp each honey, sugar, and dry sherry
1 tsp salt
1 tsp Chinese 5-spice
3 quarter-size slices fresh ginger, crushed
3 lbs lean boneless pork (butt or leg)

In a small pan, combine soy, honey, sugar, sherry, salt, 5-spice, and ginger. Heat over medum heat for 1 min. to dissolve sugar, let cool. Cut pork into 1 inch thick slices; place in a plastic bag and pour in marinade. Seal bag and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until next day, turning occasionally to distribute marinade. Drain pork, reserving marinade, and place on a rack set over a foil-lined baking pan. Bake in a 350 oven for 30 min. Tun pieces over and bake for 45 more min., brushing occasionally with reserved marinade. Cut into thin slices, serve hot or cold.

Enjoy!

Well, I can try, but that's generally a meal that I just throw together with leftovers! Here's what I usually put in my fried rice:

chopped char siu
day old white rice
scrambled egg
chopped green onion
soy sauce
peas and carrots (frozen mix)

I just toss it all together in my wok, sprinkle the whole thing with sesame seeds and we just serve ourselves!

Aren't her recipes the best! Saturday night I made those crash potatoes with pan seared, herb crusted filet mignon, salad & green beans and it was amazing! I have made those apple dumplings a few times for different occasions everyone goes crazy for them! You should try the chocolate pie too!

I haven't been in the cooking mood too much lately like others here. My job is really stressing me out which spills over to me not wanting to do anything at night (even stamp ). I think tonight I am going to make manicotti though...that is sounding good!

I'm so jealous. It's supposed to hit 106 today. Ugh. I have no clue what's for dinner. I need to clean out my fridge today and see what's in there.

I {HEART} P-Dub! She rocks! Plus she's hilarious too!!

Tonight we're having something Ryan threw together. He cooked up some chicken breasts, then he cooked some pasta, made an alfredo sauce, mixed it all together with some mushrooms and put in a pan for me to throw in the oven. I think I'll top it with some cheese.

Curried tempeh salad with mixed baby greens & pea shoots in thai rice wraps.
Maybe some noodles & broccoli on the side.

Does anyone have a recipe for homemade rice-a-roni??? I love the stuff, but the boxed mix has too much salt for me... I'd love to try making my own, but I'm not sure where to start.

Denise there are quite a few listed on the web.

The more salty the bullion the more salt you are going to taste. I think that Corborn's has some the has the "less sodium" bullion so you can check it out.

Of course depending on if you want anything more than the chicken or beef flavor you could always add veggies and such...

LOL! I have tried that combo in the crockpot, nasty! It was glob and gross.

We are eating out somewhere, not sure where yet. It is hot again and going to get hotter as the week finishes off. Chris has someone coming to look at truck mirrors he has for sale and I didn't want to be holding dinner while waiting for this guy to show, if he does.

I'm going this weekend with a girlfriend and then all my stuff is getting packed up until after we move. So maybe in the fall.... We are listing our house next week, and hope to be moved into the new house by late August. (Yes, we bought a new house without having this one even listed.... and we've already closed on the other one. Now the fun construction period begins! I'll be spending the next 10 weekends with a paintbrush in my hand!!)

I wanted to ask you... is your new pool chlorine or salt? We may get to keep our pool after all.... but we aren't sure if we should go with salt or chlorine....

And just to keep on topic, tonight's intended dinner is brats on the grill if I don't get stormed out.

I can handle broth and bullion in stuff.... it's the packaged foods that seem to hvae so much extra sodium that I can't tolerate. And forget eating Chinese food.... I'm retaining water for DAYS if I eat it.

We did that too when we moved. We purchased our house in Feb. moved in March and didn't sell our other house until July. I don't want to freak out out, but I know what you're going through.

I "shock" our pool with cholorine and other chemicals about every 7-10 days. The rain also has an effect. If it rains I have to do it again. Believe it or not rain has a bad affect on pools.

Not sure what I am making tonight. DH has softball and DS has caught the flu bug. Poor little guy asked for medicine and started crying when I said there is nothing for the flu it just has to run it's course.

I have to get ahold of my neighbor to see if she has any pedialite (sp?) that I could have until Jesse can get to the store. He's gone ALL day- Holdingford, Avon then comes home (maybe) and has to go to Foreston (I'll have him wave Lisa).

It's going to be a LONG day!!!

Oh Michelle, I hope the flu passes quickly, poor lil guy .

Tonight we're having tacos. Logan's been asking for them FOREVER. Ryan was nice enough to prep everything for me last night (YAY!). It's another ICK, cold, glooooooooomy, rainy day here. I think summer came and went when I blinked .

Last night was supposed to be Pizza (blech), but the neighbors invited us over for a VERY last minute BBQ. Yummy ribs.
Michelle, sorry I missed your call
Tonight we will probably have taco's and then play Wii for hours and hours and hours!

I've been a single mom (husband out of town for business) for the last 4 weeks, with only 4 more weeks to go. I was so proud of myself because I made Chicken Broccoli Bake with Rice last night and I had enough for leftovers tonight and wouldn't have to think of anything. I let it cool down before putting it in the fridge. Got my three kids ready for bed and didn't remember to put dinner away until THIS MORNING!!!! Not only did I waste the food, which isn't cheap these days, but now I have to come up with something for tonight. UGHHHH!! My mind is shot and I am clearly sleep dreprived! Tell me I'm not the only one who has done this. Is it better to wait for food to cool before putting it away or do you put it away hot?

Sorry Kristen!!! {{{HUGS}}}

I've done that before too. I usually let things cool down first and then clean the kitchen after Joey goes to bed. I have also gotten up in a panic (which kills DH everytime )only to remember that I forgot to put it away.

As far as putting it into the fridge while it's still hot (pan wise) my mom always did it with the exception of glass pans...

Until your DH gets home just take the easy route and put it in the ice box right away.

Well I lucked out and the deli had some cold fried chicken in the fridge section for CHEAP so i bought 2 boxes and threw them in the freezer, the girls are going to heat them up tonight in the oven with spice fries.
Last night they made chicken enchiladas ( I took mine for lunch today since I was home late) And they were delish! I took chicken breasts and put thme frozen in the crockpot with a can of chicken verde soup and a small (jelly jar size) of homemade tomatillo salsa when this was cooked I threw in a block of cream cheese and put it in the fridge (lifted the whole CP liner out ~the plastic ones from renolds) Than the girls shredded the chicken wit a fork and added a bag of taco blend cheese and made enchiladas and poured green enchilada sauce over YUMMO!

I had DH make the beef roast yesterday since I totally forgot to put it in the crockpot before I left for work.

I gave him instructions to add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water to it. (It probably didn't need it, but I always get nervous leaving stuff cooking at home unattended, that I like to play it safe when it comes to adding water to it.)

I got home last night and next to the crock pot was the BIGGEST coffee mug in the cupboard. THAT's what he used to measure his half cup. Sure it was a half a cup... just not the half cup I told him. We ended up with boiled pot roast last night. LOL.

Men.

I reminded him of the time he tried to cook some oven baked chicken something or other... Recipe called for yogurt. (Which is not something I have on hand....) He thought it would be even better with PEACH yogurt, which I did have.

Yeah, he broiled my chicken with peach yogurt. Not only did it smell gross... but it burnt my pan so bad I had to throw it out. Well, he got points for trying, but he lost points for not following instructions!
