Tonight, with DH out of town on business, I indulged in a whole package of Biscoff cookies with a cup of tea (and I used sugar in it instead of Sweet N Low). OK, NOT within my calorie or carb count, but it was very satisfying!!!

Whoa! Me too! No White Castles in Wichita, but when I get back to Detroit I always eat a bunch. DH thinks they stink, but anyone who eats beans on toast isn't allowed an opinion.

Ryan grilled pork chops tonight and a potato packet. Had tossed salad and cottage cheese with it as well.

I'm taking leftover vegetables (boiled potatoes, peas & carrots, celery, chopped onions, whole corn) adding 2 cups of leftover chopped roasted chicken breast to make a chicken pot pie for supper tonight and lunch tomarrow.

Had lunch with a friend yesterday and she served Orange-Glazed Chicken Wings and they were so good, I had to have the recipe. She said she got the recipe from a Taste of Home 5 Ingredient Recipe Mag. I stopped at the store on the way home and bought wings so I could make them tomarrow night. Thought I would share.

Orange-Glazed Chicken Wings

*The wings marinate overnight.
*Uncooked chicken wing sections (wingettes) may be substituted.

Yield: 2-1/2 dozen (Perfect party/finger food)

3 pounds chicken wings
1-1/2 cups soy sauce
1 cup orange juice
1 teaspoon garlic powder

Cut chicken wings into three sections; discard wing tips.

In a large resealable plastic bag, combine soy sauce, orange juice and garlic powder; add wings.

Seal bag and turn to coat. Refrigerate overnight.

Drain and discard marinade. Place wings in a greased foil-lined 15" x 10" x 1" baking pan. Bake at 350 for 1 hour or until juices run clear and glaze is set, turning twice.

LOL, she wrapped up a few for DH to sample but I couldn't help myself and I ate them before I got home.

Haven't figured out yet what I will serve with the wings since they are so good, I could just make a meal of them alone. Maybe some mashed potatoes and some boiled corn on the cob from the garden.

Tonight is pork chops-

I need to find a recipe so I can make them different instead of the plain ol' chops in the oven- I've got some Potatoe cheddar soup mix from TS- maybe I will make that in the oven with the chops on top... Stay tuned to see what I come up with.

Good luck Michelle!

We had leftovers last night and probably again tonight. We are going away for the weekend so I don't want to leave a bunch of stuff in the fridge for the house sitter to look at. I have corn on the cob that needs to be eaten, so we will be having that tonight at minimum. I never know what Chris is going to take for lunch (if anything) so it is hard to gauge the leftovers.

Tomorrow I think we will do take out something.

Tonight Ryan's making something with round steak. I have no idea what to do for a side because we just had potatoes last night.

We are having the Porcupine Meatballs, although I'm going to try them with cream of mushroom soup and I don't know what else - no one here will eat stewed tomatoes. It's meat though, so I know DH will eat it.

I followed the recipe as written without any issues. I was worried because I have been on a reduced sodium diet for over 5 years, so things appear salty to me that don't to others.

I make them for Sunday Football!

Hello!

We had artichokes, shrimp, crostini, and parm cheese last night for dinner. I need to figure out something for tonight. I want to make corn on the cob so it doesn't go bad but I don't want red meat as we are going to a steak place on Saturday night. I think I have some frozen fish filets that you just bake and since it isn't too hot here today, I'll just do that.

Tomorrow night we are trying a Peruvian Restaurant, that is what happens when I tell hubby to look at 5 different menus and his answer was "Whatever!!" That means you get no opinion in my house!

LOL...I remember I used to put down a plastic shower curtain liner under the high chair when my babies ate spaghetti.

Brother in law is a local shrimper and he gave us some nice Jumbo shrimp in exchange for some deer sausage, so we are having fried shrimp, baked potatoes and a green salad tonight.

Not sure what we'll have tonight... I still have no appetite and there is so much to get done, I'm so not digging this not being able to do anything until the end of August.

Awww, so sorry, I hope your appetite returns soon.

It's a no tax weekend here for back to school, so will be out shopping today. While I'm out, gonna pick up the ingredients for a quick meal that we love for supper tonight. It's quick to put together without alot of prep and DD loves making it herself.

Tamale Bake

2 (15 oz.) cans, tamales, paper removed
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 (16 oz) cans, chili without beans
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1-1/2 cups crushed Frito's (Dorito's work as well)

Preheat oven to 350. Grease a 9x13 baking dish. Cut tamales into bite-size pieces, and place in prepared dish. Sprinkle tamales with onion, spread with chili. Bake covered for 45 minutes. Add cheese immediately after removing from oven. Once cheese has melted, sprinkle with crushed Frito's.

I haven't done the spaghetti yet. Thursday Joey ate at Grandma's and I had a sandwich. Last night my MIL made dinner since Jesse's sister and kiddos came for the night.

Tonight I am going to make Fish and chips.

It is still way to hot for Portland, well in the 90's, which is hot for here. The peruvian restaurant was incredible, too bad it was in the 80's inside. My mojitos were to die for as well as the food. Tonight we are going to a steakhouse. Still trying to find a place for brunch tomorrow. I want to go to a french place but DH got SIL on his side to vote for buffet - blech!

Well...we finally got back late Friday from a week in Vegas. I am exhausted. And broke. Lol. You might be surprised to hear that I actually cooked last night. We were so tired of "restaurant food" (though I can't complain about the amount of dishes I had to do - zero!). I decided to make S&B pork chops, salad and rice. It was delish but I ran into a unique dilemma. We bought a box of food from a local church, similar to the "Angel Foods" that was discussed on this thread earlier. So far, I have been very impressed. The veggies and fruit were super fresh, the cuts of meat were great, etc. Here's my problem, along with everything else, we received 4 pork chops and 4 steaks but they weren't labeled or marked in any way. All 8 were vacuum sealed and were approx the same size, all boneless. So, I had to lay them all out on the counter and try to figure out which were which. Mostly, I just guessed. So...for dinner, I ended up with 3 S&B pork chops and one "breaded steak". Lol. I opted for the steak and it was actually delish! Nice when errors turn out tasty.

Yesterday we had hot dogs and a veggie pasta salad for lunch. A couple of hours later is when I discovered that our fridge had died ARGH! SO Ryan thawed some chicken breasts and grilled that and made Lipton Spanish Rice (my sister and BIL were up helping hang dry wall).

So we have had everything perishable in coolers on ice, LOTS of ice. Thank goodness it's not really hot out today. We're using up what we can from the coolers so nothing spoils and tomorrow we have to go look for a new fridge, bah.

I swear this house thinks we're made of money.

Oh Jaclyn! I'm so sorry. We may have to buy a new one as well for our garage. I know not as bad as yours, but we have a freezer full of food. The door isn't sealing well so icicles are forming around the seal.

Stef - I love Vegas! We try to make a trip each year.

I don't know when I'll cook next. We just got back tonight and I have to fly out for work on Tuesday, so who knows what we are eating.

the pork chops were eh. I used a Tastefully Simple recipe that I found on the website becuase I had a box of Potato Cheddar Soup mix.

Well I was more disappointed in how LONG it took to cook. The recipe said 45 mins- it was more like 1 1/2 hours before the extra potataoes that it called for were done. UGGG- THe boys didn't get to eat before T-ball.

Tonight I am doing fish fillets and chips (french fries) Super easy since I know that it WILL be done before T-Ball tonight.

Last week of T-Ball so one less thing that I have to hurry and make dinner for.

I did make a menu for the month of August again- so far as of last month it worked out pretty well. I haven't recieved the cc bill yet but by my calculations I will be under $525 for the whole month for food. THat's three meals a day 7 days a week with the exception of 2 days. which turns out to be about $17 a day for all 4 of us.

We tried some Emeril smoked sausages- garlic & wine flavor? Not too impressed, they seemed salty (and I'm a huge salt eater- it's hard to find anything I think is salty!) BUT, also tried some frozen grilled vegies from Aldi, and I'm in LOVE! It has zuchini, eggplant, onion, and bell pepper, with basil. They were SO good! DH naturally had mashed potato and baked beans with his sausages. (They weren't inedible, but nothing I'll buy again. I think I like the Bruce Aidell's sausages I've gotten at Sam's better than these!)

It's DH and I for supper tonight so he's gonna grill a few steaks, asparagus spears and I'll make his favorite rice dish to go with.

1 cup uncooked long-grain rice
1 can beef consomme
1 can French onion soup
1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms, drained
1/2 stick butter

Mix all of the above in casserole dish. Bake at 350, uncovered for about an hour, stirring every 15 minutes or until all juice is absorbed. If it gets dry, add a little butter or water. Serves 6.

Well we are STILL without a fridge, ugh, so we're pretty much living on NOTHING. My cousin and her husband are looking for a fridge for us today though so... Here's hoping!! So not sure what we'll be eating tonight. Ryan was going to make alfredo sauce, but we have no milk so that's out.

That is AWESOME! After Vegas (where we spent plenty, but still less than I anticipated) I am putting myself on a self-imposed spending freeze (other than groceries and bills). No eating out or fast food, or shopping, etc for the month of August. I do it periodically and it always surprises me how fast it adds up. Wish me luck!

I would love to see your menus for August. I've tried making mine and have fallen into such a rut that I'm bored. I'd also like to know how you only spent that much $$! Good job!

As for dinner...
Last night we had pork roast, roasted red potatoes, salad and peas. Yum!
Tonight we tried a new recipe. Spaghetti Squash and Chicken from a Family Circle mag. It was okay, but we had to punch up the squash with some garlic pepper and butter. all in all a good dish.

Tomorrow... no idea.

I love spaghetti squash, but eat it with butter and brown sugar, YUM!

Ryan ended up grilling steaks and potatoes tonight for us, the kids had pb & j sandwiches and chips.

hopefully tomorrow we can get milk in the house again.

I really feel for you, especially with kids in the house. When we built this house 3 years ago, we had to wait on the new fridge we had ordered and paid for for almost two weeks because of a mix up when ordering. It's hard living out of coolers. We do have a small fridge and freezer in a shed on the property, but it was such a pain walking back and forth since the shed is located on the other side of the property. Hope you can get another fridge soon.

Meeting DH in Savannah after work this evening so will probably stop somewhere to eat something. Haven't decided where yet, but it will nice to get a break from the kitchen, so I'm game for anything.
