Default Someone stole my kids' pumpkins!!!

Isn't that just wrotten?!?! My kids picked out three big, beautiful pumpkins at the patch last weekend. They were sitting on the walkway in front of our house and when my husband went to get them to carve with the kids this afternoon, the two biggest ones were gone! How do you explain to a four year old that someone stole her pumpkin? I guess I should be happy that they at least left one of them. I just can't believe it.

I can't believe what some people do.
Steal pumpkins unbeleiveable.

Hope you and your family have a nice Halloween

That's awful!!!!! I am so sorry that happened to you! People steal the strangest things! Someone once stole a houseplant off of our porch! If you come trick or treating over here in Colorado, I'll be sure to give your kids EXTRA Halloween treats!

And I hope whoever stole your pumpkins tripped and fell when they were running away with them!

I think it's because he/she didn't have three arms. What a detective I am! Be on the lookout for someone with two pumpkins! Suspect DOES NOT HAVE three arms!

That narrows it down, doesn't it??

Hahahaha That's very funny!

My DH took my DD to the store to get a new pumpkin. They were supposed to take them to her preschool today for a Dad's Pumpkin Carving party. I'm sure they got a good replacement and are having a fun time.

Happy Halloween to everyone!

Really rotten!!!! I posted on another thread a few weeks ago that I can remember when we didn't lock our churches. Now we have to lock everything, or should. I leave my doors open & unlocked most of the time. My husband gets upset with me but our house is so out of the way that people looking for it get lost. Four is to young to learn about the meaness of others. Give your children a hug from lakegrandma.

What a terrible thing to happen to your kids. I hope they have an extra special time at the pumpkin carving party with their dad - they deserve it! Here's hoping the person(s) who did this have a terrible night.

Some people are really lousy. One Halloween, when I was in grade school, I carved a Charlie Brown pumpkin. That night some teenagers put it in the middle of the street and smashed it with a golf club.

I agree with this!!! That is so terrible that some people have the nerve to ruin someone else's day--especially a child's on Halloween! We've had our pumpkins stolen before, and we live in a very safe neighborhood--it can happen anywhere.

Just so everyone knows how 'mean' I am....

I wanted to do something to our pumpkins to discourage people from stealing them, but I couldn't think of what would work. I didn't really want something that would be painful, so this is what I came up with:

I washed and dried the pumpkin and then schmeared the whole thing with vaseline! The other benefit is it looks really shiny and pretty! Now anyone who tries to steal one of my pumpkins will get a slimey surprise!!!!! Mooohoooowaaaahahahaha!! I haven't had a pumpkin stolen since! I just wipe off the goo with a paper towel and carve away!!!

Hope all the kiddos have a great Halloween!

OOOOOH I LIKE THIS!!! This would take care of all those squirrels that want to eat the pumpkins too, wouldn't it....now I'm all for that! Varmints...they get away with so much, but all they are are rats with fluffy tails! The next door neighbors put out a little pie pumpkin for their little baby and the next day there was nothing left but a pile of chips with a stem on top!

WE didn't even get to carve our pumpkins this year. We always do them the night before Halloween. Our power went out last night in a windstorm. We went out to eat (oh darn) since we couldn't cook anything and it was too dark to carve them after we got back. And today the power did not come back on until 2:20 PM! Since we had church this morning and a party this afternoon, they never did get carved.

My grandma used to live on a street near Western Michigan University. She liked houseplants and had a bunch on her porch that she took tender care of. One night someone came and stole every single plant off her porch. Now, anybody who would steal an old lady's plants has major problems...wouldn't put it past them to steal pumpkins too!

Ok ... this reminds me of what my cousin did. He has an outside fridge that he keeps some of his beer in for gatherings and what-not. They live on 10 acres in the middle of nowhere, so it usually isn't a problem. He found one day that his beer was being stolen little by little. Sooooooo.... get this ..... he filled up the bottles with *recycled* beer (if you don't get that - pm me!!!), and replaced the tops! Some of that 'beer' got taken, but none after that!!! LOL!!! I thought it was hilarious - mean, but hilarious.

I am so sorry about your pumpkins, though. It is so mean that people do that.

Oh - and about locking up churches ... I actually have a cabinet in my Sunday school room that I lock myself! Yes ... I have people *in* the church that 'borrow' things that never return. I decided that in order to keep track of what I have and what I need, I have to keep it all locked up. Sad, isn't it???!

That reminds me of a story I heard at a library I used to work in. We all used the same refrigerator to store our lunches in and one person's lunch was always being taken. So instead of a nice ham sandwich, one day she made a wonderful different sandwich from her kitty's litterbox. Suffice it to say, after that, she never had a problem!

re bolded part:

Around here this year mother nature took care of giving everyone who left pumpkins out for more than a day or two a very slimey surprise. When people would go to pick them up to carve them, they were mush You could see mold growing in most pumplins tonight that did get carved. Wasn't a great year for pumkins around here.

Well, this proves that no plan is fool proof:

My vaseline treatment worked before the pumpkins were carved, but after we carved them, three out of five were stolen tonight and smashed in front of our house! I hope they felt the slime!!!

Oh well, it's over anyway..........

I think I might have been less upset if our pumpkins had actually been smashed in front of the house, but for someone to just steal them?!?! I guess that's what I'm dumbfounded about.

Yes, it's over for another year. Honestly, I think my kids cared less about the stolen pumpkins than I did. Go figure. I just thought it was rotten.

Thanks for all of your cute comments. I hope everyone had a happy Halloween. And stock up on your Vaseline for next year.

wow.. we live out in the country and nobody has ever stolen a pumpkin yet. When we use to put them out by the road they use to stop and smash them when we WERE NOT home, but that was before the kids were big enough to notice Now we take about 1-2 hours to carve EACH pumpkin to make it very pretty!! We had a flaming ghost, vampire and something else that I forget what it is.. to cold to go outside and look

We get stuck with the little trouble makers that like to smash them around here We can never keep pumpkins outside or they will be all over the roads.

Default Aaah that happened to me!

As an adult I still remember the Halloween my pumpkin was stolen off our front porch! They were great big ones too! I was so SAD! I guess that was the first time I felt robbed as a child---I guess I've lead a pretty good life for a pumpkin stealing to make me feel so bad! Now you'll just have to make another trip to the pumpkin patch, throw in a hay ride or two, eat gooey caramel apples, play in the 'corn patch' and have even more fun than you had the first time! Think of it as another chance to have a great adventure. However, I still sympathize.
