We are hosting my DH's family this year for Christmas (it's our turn) and our gift exchange is going to be under $15. We all bring a neutral gift and then pick numbers and people get to "steal" other gifts or pick one from the pile..this is all before they are opened, of course!!
Anyway, I'm having a hard time coming up with something a man or woman will enjoy...we aren't doing gag gifts...Too bad, because I have a TON of ideas for those!! LOL All I've come up with are board games (good luck finding one for under $15!) and a basket of some sort (say, lasagna or wine/cheese). My DH won't tell me his ideas, because he thinks I'm going to steal them and then I'll know what his gift is!!
Can someone help me, please? I thought of making some stamped items, but I figured if one of BIL or nephews ended up with the gift, they woudln't be too apreciative!!
Well, I like the lasagne idea -- along the food lines, how about chocolates, assortment of coffees, assortment of tea/cocoa, those cool gourmet bean & soup packages tied with raffia, could get multiple. (Check out food aisle at World Market).
We do the same thing each year, except our dollar maximum is $10. I am doing the Pampered Chef small batter bowl and filling it with an inexpensive snowman oranament plus mini Almond Joy candy bars and other chocolates and tying it up with a ribbon and a tag that says "May this Holiday Season bring you JOY beyond Measure" The guys can give the batter bowl which is $10 in the PC catalog to to their wives or mothers after they eat all the candy.
My husband got a really crappy gift last year -- Christmas Chess, so he is going to recycle it back into the game this year but put it in a really big box or something so nobody knows. This will be the 4th year this same game is put into the exchange.

How about popcorn in the huge tin that you see each year? I buy that every year because everyone loves it and it's really good! Just a thought! I also love the PC batter bowl idea. Good luck! Let us know what you decide!

We do this with my Father In Law's family every year. A box of instant Lottery tickets always goes over big. Also the big thing last year was the TV Games that have the classic arcade games that just plugs into the front of the TV. If you find one on sale it might be less than $15. Another idea is whatever movie is coming out right now. Sometimes the first week you can get them for $15. Or an older DVD that's still a really good movie.

I played this game with DH family for the first time last year (we are in CA and they live in KY) I liked that they had that guys bought for guys, girls bought for girls, it made it easier than finding 20+ gender neutral gifts that were different. If I had to get a gender neutral, I would say the flashlight sets, and blankets were some of the more popular items. That game is so much fun!
This is SUPER cute! I wish my DH's family would do something like this, it would make them so much more fun!! I personally like the idea of the batter bowl, but love the post about the gift that no one wants that has be re-re-re-recycled!! Best Wishes and have LOTS of fun!!
This is a great idea. I wish my DH's family did this. All I ever get from his family is lotions, bath salts, etc. I have enough to last a life time.
I would suggest card games, if you can't find a board game. Couple decks of cards, poker chips, etc. Or Uno, Ziggity, etc. Target had in their dollar spot area Mickey Mouse Christmas decks of cards for $1. They also had other types of puzzles and games. You could load up there.

We do this as well. Gift cards, movie tickets, & assorted gift baskets always seem to go over really well. Do ya'll play that each person gets to unwrap as you go along or all have to wait to the end. We've done it both ways and both are fun, but I like that you can unwrap as you go best. That way you can steal something really good and not end up with a dud that's just wrapped really cool!
We do this with both sides of the families for the adults. I love the lottery ticket idea and no one has done that one yet. Last year someone gave a Cosmopolitan mix with shaker and an Apple Martini mix with shaker and those were very popular. A traditional Christmas movie - It's A Wonderful Life or A Christmas Story with popcorn are always big hits.

mixed nuts and a nut cracker? (with a note about every family has a few nuts?)
one year somebody went over the five dollar limit and my dh got the double bag of nestle's choc chips in the collectible tin . the wife explained everybody is baking and can use extra chocolate chips. Still have the tin and think that was the best grabbag ever!( i had to fight for the handmade ornament)
nice picture frame (especially ifyou can find a really old family picture to put in)
goofy toy since a lot have been on sale (the nerf ball gun, rudolf cards, taboo is one of our family faves with the buzzer)
if you do the lottery tickets i would have them HIDDEN in something
so that the fight is AWAY from the santa hat
or blinking rudoph nose or christmas mugs
and THEN when all gifts are open you can say look under the box or whatever and let them find the ten lottery tickets *and laugh yourselves silly
nice chiristmas hand towels or tea towels I like to give and there have been some good sales on those (kohls is my all purpose store)
half off sale today hmm
